Younique and facebook

One fo my friends has recently started selling this stuff - Younique make-up.
On Facebook she has become this embodiment of positivity, lots of quotes, lots of photos. Then she does these videos about the product and her happy, happy life.
I know that in real life she doesn't have a happy, happy life and we (she and I) have talked previously about how other people's happy, happy, facebook can be damaging to mental health or hide mental health issues.
AIBU to think younique is like a cult and tell her to stop the pretending?

The differences are so many and varied and obvious this seems a ridiculous statement..

But just for the lols we could start with the fact that the ladies in boots don't rely on recruiting other ladies to sell make up in boots..

topcat2014 · 18/05/2019 22:40

We are no different to the make-up ladies in Boots, Harrods, Self ridges etc all who make commission by selling make-up to you... What's the difference?

People buy things in shops at normal retail prices to use themselves - or have I misunderstood?

BAB0484 · 18/05/2019 22:42

Oh wow... Everyone is entitled to their opinion... But keep it nice ladies!
I do earn a really good monthly income, as well as work full time. If the product is not to your liking you have a 14 day guarantee time period for a refund. We are all different and some products suit some people and not others... It's not a 'one size suits everyone!!' life. Yes we can earn incentives, car bonuses, holidays etc. but equally so you don't have to... There is no pressure! Points of views and opinions always welcome but keep it nice... I'm sure there are a lot of people that have a lot of experience in other sectors... I'm in education...have friends that are nurses, Dr's, events directors, teachers, publishers, writers, orthodontists, singers, writers... etc. Each one has expertise in their chosen sector... Equally so, I could disagree with any advice I am given and make my own choices!! As can we all... too much hatred in the world to get catty over some make-up...surely? You can just say no!!!

newjobnerves · 18/05/2019 22:52

So answer the question, what do you earn and how many hours do you put in?

XXVaginaAndAUterus · 18/05/2019 22:52

Could you answer the questions, please?

dirtystinkyrats · 18/05/2019 22:53

If you haven't watched the BBC documentary you really should. I'm sure there are a small % of people who make a profit at these things but equally do I think they clearly target the vulnerable.

StopMakingATitOfUrselfNPissOff · 18/05/2019 22:54

Yeah but it's much harder to return something to your mate than an anonymous person in a shop when you know it'll cut their commission.

churchthecat · 18/05/2019 22:56

Ooh a thread bot, how exciting.

Puddingmama2017 · 18/05/2019 22:57

I hate that Poo-nique has changed an very intelligent world-wise lady I know, whose FB posts I always enjoyed reading for the intellectual challenge they presented, into a mindless social media machine. It’s such a disappointment and she’s been keeping it up for years. I keep hoping it’ll all die down, but we’re into the 3rd year of ‘PM me hun!’ Sad

TheHorseOnSeventhAvenue · 18/05/2019 22:59

You are very different from those who sell in Boots, Harrods and Selfridges because they get at least National Minimum Wage, before any commission. They do not have to spend any of their own money on the product (access to endless free samples] and do not have to buy the product themselves or pay website or membership fees.

They gat paid holidays, pension contributions and employment rights. If you want to be an unpaid rep that’s fine but don’t kid yourself it’s going to be financially rewarding!

Merryoldgoat · 18/05/2019 23:13

If the company had good products that were well priced why the fuck do you need this recruitment model?

Why not just sell in shops like MAC etc?

Why not actually provide the samples without charging new recruits masses of money?

Your ‘good income’ is a) subjective and b) not provable. You can say ‘I earn £500 a week for 10 hours a work’ and there’s no proof. All I know if that even if you are earning decent money you’re one of very few.

BAB0484 · 18/05/2019 23:16

Wow... I spent £69 on my kit and that's all my outgoings have been... I don't keep stock, all orders are done via my website and if someone (I've had 1 as lipstick colour didn't suit) returns a product, they are refunded... simple as. I have already been paid for that sale so don't lose out. I do some social media pre-posts but a lot of house parties as I like people to try the products first...and it's great to get together! The hosts get commission and this leads to more parties... I can do them on days and times that suit them. I regularly earn £800 to £1,000+ every month, plus the incentives, car bonuses etc.
As I've said, it's not for everyone.
I actually joined Mumsnet for advice for new first time Mums... But saw this thread and kinda jumped on to share my experiences...

CoolCarrie · 18/05/2019 23:20

Barb, it’s a lot of shit and at least Avon doesn’t mislead the vendors or the customers!

SunnyCoco · 18/05/2019 23:23

There's a great podcast called The Dream which delves really deeply into all this MLM bullshit

Zoflorabore · 18/05/2019 23:24

If you were doing so well then you wouldn't need to work full time!

After 2 years I wouldn't be wanting to do 2 jobs just to make it work.

I can't beleive this stuff is still selling, are they still making that ludicrous claim that a huge percentage of sales revenue goes to a house for domestic violence victims? If so that is disgusting.
I've read the truth about that claim.

CoolCarrie · 18/05/2019 23:28

OP the only thing you can do with your friend’s situation is to saw her the various documentaries and help her to see that it’s a scam and she will lose money and friends, possibly family as well selling this rubbish!

BlackcurrantJamontoast · 18/05/2019 23:29

BAB0484

Post your redacted 2107-8 tax return page on here. then we might believe you.

CraicMammy · 18/05/2019 23:30

Is that £800+ purely commission? How much of that is income from your downline / new recruits?

SparrowBo · 18/05/2019 23:30

I loathe Younique, Rodial, Aloe Vera and all the other MLMs. All the bots spouting positivity. Bleugh.

SparrowBo · 18/05/2019 23:32

Nah I don't believe you BAB

CoolCarrie · 18/05/2019 23:32

It’s no coincidence that this MLM were generally started in Utah, as it was aimed at Mormon women, so they couldn’t work away from home, there are a form of cult.

aIways · 18/05/2019 23:32

If you haven't had any more outgoings, how do you do lots of house parties where people try your stuff? Surely you need to buy the stuff for them to try? 🤔

Celebelly · 18/05/2019 23:33

Load of bollocks and a good way to lose friends by posting incessant shite on social media about shitty cheap make-up.

The Elle's blog thing is incredibly illuminating into the lies told to recruit others and how much people actually 'earn'.

Celebelly · 18/05/2019 23:37

(Cheap as in quality, certainly not price)

BAB0484 · 18/05/2019 23:38

I like having two jobs.. I like the variety and my day job is hard... I find this fun and rewarding. I have been to the recluse... I have met women who have been there.. fact.
I really didn't come on here to be sworn at either... I'm not recruiting...!!! I'm just saying for me, the home parties work well. The ladies I meet at these parties buy from me, they have 14 days to return any goods with a full refund and then if they want more products they order direct from my website... I don't have to hard sell or chase them or entice.. or anything else! I earn a good salary from my day job and this is a bit of fun for me. I like make-up and that's it really!! I get paid straight into my account 3 hrs after every purchase so am earning money whilst doing my day job.

As I've said... I came on here to get advice for first time Mum's, saw the thread and comments and thought I would share my experiences... That's all..!!!
