Does it cause you any problems?
If you could pick a name what would it be?

@sayanythingelse, it's not Audrey, is it? Grin I knew an Audrey briefly who hated her name, because people thought of Coronation Street, but given when she was born I expect her parents saw it as a glamorous name, due to Audrey Hepburn. :)

sayanythingelse · 16/05/2019 23:04

MuddlingMackem noo it's not Audrey. It's way more popular.

I quite like Audrey actually!

LittleCandle · 16/05/2019 23:04

I did know a guy called Steven Sebastian Stevenson. He thought it was quite cool. He was also stunningly handsome and got away with it.

SnowyAlpsandPeaks · 16/05/2019 23:20

DonnaBlush ‘80’s child. I would love to have a cool, different, more unique name.

Whitelisbon · 16/05/2019 23:27

Hate it.
It's part common (very) 70s name, so instantly gives away my age, but dm decided to be "different", so, not only did she give me a bloody hyphen and stick ann on the end, she gave me an unusual spelling.
I've spent my entire life spelling it out, having it spelt wrong, and pronounced oddly.
I always wanted to be a Rebecca, or a Lucy, or something like that!

whippetwoman · 16/05/2019 23:43

My name was not at all popular when I was a child but I suddenly realised in my 20s that lots of babies were being called my name. I used to love my name because I never met any one else with it, but it's been so popular for years now that it's just totally common and to me, not special any longer. It's weird though, as none of my peers have the same name but everyone's children/teenagers do. I'm 47 now so it's been popular for the last 20 years or so!

ByStarlight · 16/05/2019 23:45

I love mine! It’s distinctive and a name everyone immediately recognizes, but yet it’s never been ‘popular’. I’ve only ever come across 2 other people with my name in real life.....in over 40 years.
No one ever forgets my name nor mispronounces it.
But I do get a lot of beer-related jokes.

Tillygetsit · 16/05/2019 23:50

I was embarrassed about mine through school especially with my very teasable surname but I like it well enough now. If I'd have chosen my own name I'd pick something weird like Zed. It suits me Grin

ChopinIn10Minuets · 16/05/2019 23:51

Yes, I like my name. But it was relatively unusual when I was a kid, and the nuns at my Catholic primary school always used to get it wrong and call me a name I absolutely hated. Think Ann instead of Anna, or Teresa instead of Therese. Wound me up no end.

Mari50 · 16/05/2019 23:54

I love my name, I use an abbreviation of it which is very common but also the same name as lots of very cool women. I enjoy having a more formal equivalent as well.
My middle name is a fucking nightmare never ending embarrassment even at 47..... people still go ???!! OMG really???

Treaclepie19 · 17/05/2019 00:00

Yep! I do.
Which is odd because everyone always gets it confused with another name.
(Two letters if switched round make another more common name)

GrandTheftWalrus · 17/05/2019 00:51

I was born in 1984 and so my name is Laura. However it was also the name of my dads ex!!

There were 6 of us in class at one point.

U2HasTheEdge · 17/05/2019 01:05

It's OK.

It can be shortened to two different names. I use the shortened version. Now I am getting older I quite like my full name. As a child my full name was only used by my grandmother and when I was in trouble. However one person I work with uses my full name and I quite like it now.

Birdie6 · 17/05/2019 01:12

Mine is Stella - I was named after the nurse who delivered me. I love it.

Walnutwhipster · 17/05/2019 01:17

I hate my name. It's very 70s, similar to Donna in my opinion and the youngest I know is 40+. I also learned it has awful connotations on MN. I don't have a middle name so that was a no go. How I wish my parents had chosen something classic like my two DS's names. I always wanted to be a Catherine or Elisabeth.

SneakyGremlins · 17/05/2019 01:22

I like my name - although it's more often used as a girl's name.

I won't say it but I bet if I say think Native American you can work it out Smile

LadyOfTheCanyon · 17/05/2019 06:05

@SunshineCake

Kirst/Cursed. Grin

zen1 · 17/05/2019 06:18

I like my name. I was born in the 70s and there was no one else in my primary or secondary schools with my name. It was 40 years before I encountered someone with the same name as me - a little girl in my DC’s primary. It’s still quite unusual and never been in the top 100.

Calixtine · 17/05/2019 06:31

Mine’s fine. Simple, timeless, international, but pretty dull. My mum has since said she wishes she’d thought of Eliza when she had me, which I love and would definitely suit.

Crunchymum · 17/05/2019 06:43

Mine is of its era (I'm an early 80's child). Dont hate it, don't love it but it's my name and I am used to it. Middle name is the most boring name on Earth Jane I mean why bother?

  • sorry to any Jane's out there Blush
ittooshallpass · 17/05/2019 06:52

I have a traditional Irish name that people here in the Uk always struggle to spell and pronounce.

It always makes me smile when people on the baby threads tell others not to call their baby something that they will have to spell out for the rest of their life. Whilst I have had to do this, I have found it nothing but an advantage. It's a great ice breaker, always gives me something to talk about and I've never been to school or worked with anyone of the same name. I love it and no one forgets me!

Geekynzmum · 17/05/2019 06:57

I love my name and its not a very common one. I've only ever met 3 other people with the same name - 2 of whom have their birthdays either the same day or day after mine! Shock. It has started to become more popular the last couple of years though.
The only thing I hate about it is that people mishear me on the phone so I end up getting called all sorts from Beverley to Destiny but the all time favourite was Desiree which is nothing like it!
We've also given our daughter an unusual name which suits her to a tee. She can shorten it to a very popular girls if she wants to bit at the moment she likes that it is unusual.

Weedsnseeds1 · 17/05/2019 07:06

Are you a man called Minnehaha sneaky ? That's quite distinctive!

RacheyCat · 17/05/2019 07:07

I don't mind mine in terms of sound, and it's neither unusual nor common, which I appreciate, but it's a biblical name and the woman in the bible was a total drip and did something for her husband I'm not sure I'd be particularly happy doing myself. I do wish I'd been named after someone more ballsy.

Squirrelblanket · 17/05/2019 07:11

I love my name now, but it's not that common and I clearly remember being in primary school and wishing I was called Emma, Claire or Jennifer like most of the other girls were. Grin
