To roll my eyes when I see hobby...

So many threads were people complain about their partners hobby without mentioning what it is... unless it's some sort of obscure activity where there are few members it's highly unlikely to give you or your partner away!
Also same happens with jobs... just a bloody general idea.... I work in finance, I work in childcare, I teach.... not some nonsense about your "highly pressured environment"

My DH's hobby is Pathfinder or D&D. But that's ok because I'm also a massive RPG nerd and take it that step further into massive nerd town by also being a LARPer.

Waves a foam sword madly at @damntheman - I've never come across another LARPer on here! Smile

I have no idea what any of that means. Confused

Dungeons & Dragons
Role Playing Games (games like D&D - pretending to be fantasy characters)
Live Action Role Play (RPGs done in costume - running around acting it all out, rather than sitting aroung a table talking).

DC2 does D&D and LARP. I have to do the LARPing too because of DC2's age. I'm an elf. Sometimes DC2 is a fox.

Haha! Larpers unite. LARP is essentially interactive theatre where the audience are also the performers. It's a lot of fun. You get fantasy larp like pp above described, and I prefer more realism larp. I'm running a horror larp based on a quiet place in the autumn. Post apocalyptic rebuilding of society! Super fun.

Role-play games are a little different. That is more like telling a story together like the game rigmarole. You use a system of mechanics for how the world works and sometimes dice to generate a random aspect. One person runs the game by controlling the environment and secondary characters, the others play the heroes in the tale. Can be all manner of setting :)

My hobby is probably quite outing. I skate and it is a bit niche. I live in an area with very specific facilities and anyone that knows me would 100% be able to work out exactly who I am from the hobby alone.

Lovemusic33 · 18/05/2019 09:39

My hobbies would be a bit outing, none are hugely rare but are all quite different so if I named all 3 people would possibly work out who I am 🤣. 2 of my hobbies I actually have Fb pages for, one is a small business.

I always think it's cycling, sailing or golf as those things mean disappearing for hours or days at a time.

ManchesterBorn · 18/05/2019 10:02

still not sure why you care what the hobby is? It's not work - which would be a priority, it's a hobby - so a choice, what else do you need to know?

I wondered if this thread would be about people who say they have a 'hobby' but really mean a significant amount of storage space stuffed full of unused 'specialist' tools and equipment. A good proportion of that purchased under the delusion they could make a living out of it... if they ever needed to/the opportunity arose... Stuff which has remained untouched for 3 years now And nothing gets given away or sold because they are ridiculously precious about it. Not forgetting the library of books related to the 'hobby'.

For me it is the cake decorating equipment, cake tins in all sizes and shapes (shapes no-one will ever want- confessed former Ebay addict) and books.

No concerns here about this being 'outing'. And I KNOW I'm not the only one!!

I hope, one day, to meet another person like me who'd be interested in resurrecting their hobby just for the joy of being in a kitchen and playing about with sugar paste, flower paste and trying out different cake recipes. Sharing the shame!
