To roll my eyes when I see hobby...

Badwifey · 15/05/2019 15:10

So many threads were people complain about their partners hobby without mentioning what it is... unless it's some sort of obscure activity where there are few members it's highly unlikely to give you or your partner away!
Also same happens with jobs... just a bloody general idea.... I work in finance, I work in childcare, I teach.... not some nonsense about your "highly pressured environment"

I think it's absolutely fine.

What makes me roll my eyes is the pretentious:
"go away Daily Mail, you are a bad bad newspaper and you are not allowed to steal my worthy-of-the-front-page-hold-the-press story"

Hmm
YouBumder · 15/05/2019 17:42

I find it a bit odd as well and also just assume it’s a cycling twat (I am married to one of these as well!)

jellyshoeswithdiamonds · 15/05/2019 17:45

Highly pressurised work environment = cabin crew

BagofTeeth · 15/05/2019 17:58

I always imagine model making too but that's my DH's "hobby" (aka pain in the arse dust magnets of ships which take up way too much space in our house and all with the stupidest tiny details so I'm not allowed to touch them in case they break. I often wish it was little army men instead as it's harder for me to "lose" a whole ship.) I can't even buy a new bookcase without a "Oh the Bounty would look great on one of those shelves". This might be a sore point here right now after having to put away a bunch of books into a box so he has yet another shelf.

frenchonion · 15/05/2019 18:11

If I listed mine or my DPs it would be very VERY outing. Both have a couple of very niche hobbies!

I always wince when people come on and talk about problems with people they manage. It doesn’t matter if you don’t name the industry, it’s often highly identifying and I’d be fuming if my manager ever discussed me on here, no matter how ‘anonymous’. It’s one thing coming on here to moan about work colleagues being annoying; but Managers should know better.

ManchesterBorn · 15/05/2019 18:26

and I’d be fuming if my manager ever discussed me on here, no matter how ‘anonymous’.

which is why people keep vague and change details to ensure it's not identifying.

Why shouldn't people be allowed to moan about the staff if others are allowed to moan about the boss?

DerrenBrownings · 15/05/2019 20:17

@Frenchonion

Doubt it. There is nothing in this world that many many other people dont do as well.

Dyrne · 16/05/2019 17:03

ManchesterBorn I completely disagree - if I confided something to my manager; or was off sick, or was undergoing a disciplinary; and then recognised myself on here, I would be upset.

Fair enough a bit of general venting about staff but often it’s stuff that really shouldn’t be aired.

BringOnTheScience · 16/05/2019 17:13

I think they're LARPers or re-enactors. Once you get sucked into those worlds, it's pretty easy to work out from the dates which group they must be in.

ManchesterBorn · 16/05/2019 17:23

Dyrne
It's understandable you would be upset, but you can't reasonably expect people not to discuss the staff, to vent or to have a laugh. Sometimes managers can speak between themselves, others some vent on a forum. They are human. Same reason why there are so many posts about bosses, work situation and work colleagues.

elfycat · 16/05/2019 17:44

DH is a cycling twat - there I said it Grin. That's so outing I imagine you must all be able to google me now.

It has to be said that in the loft is a reasonable sized collection of painted/half painted and unpainted Warhammer figures, and they're mine, and I'm female. It's quite therapeutic and I keep meaning to get them out. Hmmm maybe now the DDs are old enough to play? DH isn't interested too busy with his unusual cycling hobby perhaps

His job is kind of specific, I talk of him working at away at sea - merchant navy/oil rigs/ windfarms that kind of thing. His job title is tied to his role and there are only so many of them out there.

HobbyIsCodeForDogging · 16/05/2019 17:46

You've inspired my new incognito name. Thanks Grin

Kedgeree · 16/05/2019 17:54

DH's job is other people's very niche hobby. That's so outing that the one time I disclosed it on here I immediately got a PM from someone saying they knew who I was Grin. Ask me if I care...

NameChangeNugget · 16/05/2019 17:58

NaturalBornWoman · 16/05/2019 18:00

All you wives whose DHs are cyclists, please can you get them to wear pants? Or at least thicker shorts.Ta Flowers

IvanaPee · 16/05/2019 18:51

Highly pressurised work environment = cabin crew

😂😂😂

IvanaPee · 16/05/2019 18:52

I eye-roll about how everyone’s job is “very niche” and “not really transferable”. Hmm

Everyone’s job can’t be niche and non-transferable!

Peanutbutterforever · 17/05/2019 14:22

Maybe the MAMILs are just cycling TO the dogging sites. Might explain quite a lot actually....

Badwifey · 17/05/2019 14:53

Laughing here at fuck off daily mail... as if they won't just edit that bit out *eyeroll

Cabin crew! Yes everyone muse be cabin crew!!

Love the new name Hobbyiscodefordogging!!

My DH is also a cycling twat... although he is an off roader so not the same... I say with smugness Grin

OP posts:
nornironrock · 17/05/2019 15:29

Lots of hate on here for the cyclists (yes, I'm one)... and yes, we do talk about it.

Couldn't help but share this gem though....

"If a vegan has never watched Game of Thrones, which one will they tell you smugly about first?".

Not mine - ripped from twitter.....

badlydrawnperson · 17/05/2019 15:31

I agree. I expect 90% of them are just cycling twats
Or football I bet.

badlydrawnperson · 17/05/2019 15:33

I do agree with you OP, but I also see why some people don't want to mention it. I think that forum threads are notorious for going off on a tangent and the poster is trying to make sure they receive posts about how to deal with their 'DH' rather than a critique of how he could better spend his time.
Except 90% of the thread is then "what is the fucking hobby? and Why can't you just say what it is?"

NicoAndTheNiners · 17/05/2019 15:44

Well DH Base jumps so it's fairly niche.

madcatladyforever · 17/05/2019 15:48

My ex liked to dress up as a pony and stick a tail up his bum. He is now doing his hobby alone.
As for high pressured work place! Even picking pebbles up off a beach and putting them in a bucket is high pressured for me because I have the menopause and am slightly mad.
