I have watched this WAYYY too much. But there must be others like me out there.

To start...

  • Ben disappears.
  • Rachel's dad smokes but with her smoking episodes she says she doesn't because her dad's a doctor and told her horror stories about it.

The thing that got me was Monica keeping wearing Emily's wedding dress to do the housework. What a horrible thing to do! And totally out of character for Monica, who would have gone ballistic if someone had done that with her dress.

Talking of which, Monica's wedding dress was really boring and her hair looked crap but everyone went on about how fantastic she looked. But in my experience that's often the way with TV weddings, they just stick 'em in any old dress.

Apparently Ross doesn’t like ice cream because “it’s too cold”!

But we see him eating it in another episode when he goes for ice cream with Elizabeth.

JellyBaby666 · 16/05/2019 17:09

Phoebe in the thanksgiving episode with Brad Pitt says something like "I never got to be a club I didn't go to high school but a couple of us met behind a dumpster to learn French, bonjour" - and then later she's fluent in French and teaches Joey!

GabsAlot · 16/05/2019 18:56

You see i comepltely disagree about jen anniston being a good actress i think shes the same in everything and i dont know why she gets so many roles

I do like David however

sarahqueenofp · 16/05/2019 19:11

Joey in season 2 tells the gang about a girl he dated with a huge Adam's apple. In season 7, he calls it his Joey's apple because he thinks it's named after each individual man.

SirSidneyRuffDiamond · 16/05/2019 19:17

Not an inconsistency but I am unreasonably irritated when Carol tells Ross that a speculum is for opening her cervix! What??

GoodPlaceJanet · 16/05/2019 20:03

Omg this! It's awful to watch. She keeps touching it with her rubber gloves! Angry

It’s not real Grin

A few of the ones I noticed have already been mentioned.

Phoebe’s birthday being February then Halloween.

Monica and chandler trying for a baby for ‘over a year’ when Emma hadn’t had her 1st birthday and they only started trying when she was born.

I don’t think anyone has mentioned Rachel going to her sister’s ski cabin. When we met her two sisters it was unlikely either would have had their own cabin.

FurrySlipperBoots · 16/05/2019 22:14

@I don’t think anyone has mentioned Rachel going to her sister’s ski cabin. When we met her two sisters it was unlikely either would have had their own cabin.

Unless Daddy bought it for them!

Rachael says on one of the earlier episodes that one of her sisters has 'a very masculine energy', but when the Friends meet them neither if them do.

StillCoughingandLaughing · 16/05/2019 22:40

Rachel trusts Monica enough to run to her for help when she jilts Barry, but not enough to invite to the wedding in the first place. (Can you imagine the AIBU thread? Grin)

Yet at the other end of the scale, Barry and Mindy invite Monica and Richard to their wedding when Monica knew neither of them before reconnecting with Rachel. Why? (Actually I do wonder if, both being medical professionals from the same town, Barry knows Richard and actually invited him plus one.)

Monica is a complete neat freak, yet has kitchen cupboards with no doors! They’re all full to the brim with crap! It would take Joey half an hour to put a couple of doors on for her, yet in ten years she never asks.

Phoebe says ‘My real dad ran out on us before I was born’, yet when she meets him, he talks about singing her a lullaby when she was a baby, which is where Phoebe got the melody for ‘Smelly Cat’.

Whilst not an inconsistency, Rachel’s career path is ridiculous. Becoming a buyer for a top fashion designer is bloody difficult even if you have a fashion degree and go straight into the sector. Going in at 28 when all you’ve done is been a bad waitress? It just doesn’t happen.

Ross meets Emily because Rachel is supposed to take her out on her boss’s behalf - her boss being Emily’s uncle. Yet there’s no sign of him at the wedding; and while Emily’s cousin chucks Ross out of his apartment because of the marriage collapse, Rachel suffers zero repercussions from being the indirect cause.

The timeline for Chandler and Janice is all wrong too. He dumps her (of course) and then she meets the Mattress King, gets married and gets pregnant in about six months.

Vulgarlady · 16/05/2019 23:58

The big window with the balcony in Monica’s apartment? Why do they alway show the corner of the building with no balcony. Gets me every time

ILoveMaxiBondi · 17/05/2019 00:02

I wondered that too vulgar but then I decided to give myself peace of mind by saying it was chandler and Joey side of the building Grin

x2boys · 17/05/2019 06:14

Regarding Monica and Richard being at Barry, and Mindys wedding I thought Money might have gone to school with Rachel.and Monica as apparently Mindy and Rachel practiced kissing at camp? Although that wouldn't explain why Rachel.kept in touch with Mindy but not Monica?Nor would it explain, why Mindy w wasn't in flash back episodesConfused

x2boys · 17/05/2019 06:15

Mindy* not Money!

x2boys · 17/05/2019 06:20

Janice could just have met and married the mattress king very quickly days, I met dh and married him six months Kate and was pregnant a few months after that! Or maybe Chandler dumped Janice who then found out she was pregnant with his baby and theatres king took pity on her and married her Shock

DannyWallace · 17/05/2019 06:55

Ok, another one that bugged me but I don't know if I'm just being stupid.

There's an episode with the "peeper"-someone looking in to Monica and Rachel's apartment with a telescope. It's obviously someone in another apartment as they manage to phone her.
But..Joey says he caught her looking in his apartment. But he's at the other side of the building!

Figure8 · 17/05/2019 07:13

Has anyone mentioned the disappearing post in the kitchen?

Phoebe's stepdad couldn't make her wedding as he didn't make parole but her biological parents were still alive. How come they weren't invited to the wedding?

In one ep they're watching Die Hard yet in a later ep Bruce Willis guest stars. And had even been in a movie with Matthew Perry at that point!

Rachel not knowing Chandler in the pilot I can forgive, as pilots often don't bear much resemblance to the rest of a series once it's picked up.

MostIneptThatEverStepped · 17/05/2019 07:45

Not an inconsistency but the episode where they talk about Anita the 'elderly' librarian makes me very cross!

Elderly? She was 50!! 😡

ABoozedMoose · 17/05/2019 07:56

Not an inconsistency but it really annoyed me how they all pile into hospital waiting rooms hanging around for someone to have a baby (it's not just Friends, see also Big Bang Theory). I know it's just a plot device to get them all in one place but I don't know anyone that would spend potentially a couple of days sitting in a hospital while a friend gave birth.

Also - attending funerals of grandparents. Why do they ALL have to go?

RasberryRoyale · 17/05/2019 07:56

Phoebe didn’t have contact with her bio dad though, she met him after her Grandma’s funeral but she never had any contact with him after so it’s understandable she didn’t invite him to the wedding.

I think the last time we see her refer to her birth Mum is when Phoebe agrees to carry Frank and Alice’s baby. I always interpreted it as they weren’t close.w I mean Phoebe intended to have her stepdad give her away which I think says a lot about how she viewed her relationship with her birth dad.
