Hallelujah! Good riddance to bad rubbish!!

OP posts:

Did you cheat on me with the town tramp?

Why is this blatant misogyny allowed on TV. There would (and rightly so) be an outcry if it was racism.

I went on the Vanessa show back in 1997 to talk about being child free by choice and it was a very sedate affair.

The two late night shows i did up in Nottingham for Carlton TV on the same subject.....................not so much.

I was shouted at that wasnt human by a man with an American accent who i couldnt see. We were sat in a doughnut shape around the studio.

In the hospitality room a woman who i didnt even know told me that she didnt like me very much...................because i didnt/dont want children. This was 1998.

The one in the same place that i did in 2000 went a bit better. I got to meet Nina Myskov who is really nice and a bit of a laugh. And managed to hold my own with the pro lifers in the studio.

The chat show /reality show genre does not like women. I wouldnt do it again but would handle it better now in my forties than i did in my twenties.

And IMO shows like this have contributed to the derogatory way that social housing tenants are thought of.

HelenaDove · 15/05/2019 23:52

I was shouted at that I* wasnt human.

Acis · 16/05/2019 00:12

I would bet a million pounds that the show was already earmarked for cancellation very soon and they’ve just jumped on this opportunity to do it.

I doubt it. It was one of the best ratings-pullers on daytime TV.

InRainbows · 16/05/2019 00:24

I can only echo everyone's thoughts - how the hell was that a show for so long? Who was watching it? I watched it a couple of times and felt pretty horrified that they clearly pay vulnerable adults often with addictions to come on their show and be ridiculed.

ITV says it acted to "protect the show" Their immediate reaction after someone died? Jesus its sociopathic.

I have never understood just what the attraction of the JK show is. I may be a horrid person to say this but upon the very rare occasions I have seen it I feel sad for the state of spme ofthe people living amongst us in our country.

And now the story moves on again as his estranged wife claims this guy was a paedophile and was afraid of the truth coming out. Although they've been separated for years they were not divorced and she left him four months after they married after he was questioned by Police about molesting a child. She also claims he was a prolific liar..

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 16/05/2019 08:05

Interesting Shatnerswig

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.thesun.co.uk/tvandshowbiz/9084426/jeremy-kyle-show-paedophile-claims/amp/

For all the people feeling sorry for him. People obviously DID watch the show seeing as it had 1 million viewers and has won national tv awards.

ShatnersWig · 16/05/2019 08:21

@BigRed I mentioned that 15 minutes ago but I didn't want to link to a trash newspaper.

Interestingly, I very nearly added to my previous post that this news will no doubt suddenly have a few people changing their mind and being glad he's dead and along you came to prove me right. Some lovely folk on MN.

Odd, isn't it? People rushed to judge the show - which should have been cancelled years ago - without waiting to see the whole circumstances (such as there being a warrant for his arrest for not turning up in court to pay fines of over £4,000). The show may not be entirely to blame for this (although still right to axe it).

And while I merely point out the above, at the moment, we only have the estranged wife's word for this. He was never charged, was he? So you are not jumping to an immediate conclusion to, when all I did was point out there may be more to it than the knee jerk response.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 16/05/2019 08:45

'My 600lb life, 'My Life on Benefits'' 'Big Brother', 'Hoarders'it's all bullshit, they are all aimed at taking the piss out of people, providing fodder for everyone to have a good discussion about at work , all happy that no matter how bad you think your daily grind is, at least you aren't as bad as this lot, come on Mumsnetters, we've all done it, mock outrage is very much the theme here, banning these type of programme is long overdue

Personally as a pwrson with little willpower I find 600lb life very inspiring actually. The follow up programs especially.

But as a Psychology student I do question the role of 'professional' psychologists in these programs. Contestants are often profiled before hand and offered 'support' during. The one I find particularly unethical is Married At First Sight. I have no idea why any psychologist would think this premise can be anything but detrimental to mental health. No matter how brief the marriage. The potential for a sense of failure, shame, etc. They actively take part in profiling and putting the couples together for the sake of entertainment! Considering all the ethics one has to gain to gather approval for a reasearch project I find it mind boogling that the 'psychologists' on the show are not answerable to anyone.

noodlenosefraggle · 16/05/2019 08:49

If all the things coming out are true though, then he really wasn't a suitable guest for this type of show. The researchers could have found out about allegations and debts with a few enquiries about suitability. The problem is, if they only allowed people on who were of sound mind, has no debt problems and were mentally strong enough to be humiliated on national TV, most of their guests would fail the test. They rely on baiting people exactly like this man.

StillCoughingandLaughing · 16/05/2019 08:54

@BigRed I mentioned that 15 minutes ago but I didn't want to link to a trash newspaper.

Oh FFS 🙄

BigRedLondonBus · 16/05/2019 08:56

My opinion hasn’t changed since reading it. I never thought the show should be cancelled even before reading it. I also read there was a warrant out for his arrest. Seemed the man had bigger problems that simply appearing on Jeremy Kyle. Easier to blame someone else though I suppose.

Lifecraft · 16/05/2019 09:01

if they think things are bad look at some of the 'mingers' with no teeth, greasy hair, grey trackies etc

Never forget, everyone on the JK show has dressed up for the telly. This is them making an effort. They don't normally look that good! Grin

Becca19962014 · 16/05/2019 09:59

They provided clothes if they deemed the ones you turned up in "inappropriate"

DuckWillow · 16/05/2019 10:57

Big Red are you Jeremy? How can you defend such a vile show?

RiversDisguise · 16/05/2019 11:00

Well then I must be Jeremy too, because I agree with Red.

DuckWillow · 16/05/2019 11:09

The two of you need to stop it. Look up informed consent (the show regularly fails here). Also look up validity of lie detector results and ask yourselves if a TV presenter should be able to humiliate people based upon the outcome. Then look in a mirror to see if you're actually human and humane.
If so then you should be against what this show represents. As a community based mental health practitioner I can tell you that this show cares nothing for its guests. I know people who the screening process should have weeded out and didn't. After all "loonies make good TV". If that's the kind of TV you get your jollies from then...well perhaps treatment for your compassion bypass is in order.

LimeKiwi · 16/05/2019 11:53

Well said @DuckWillow.

LimeKiwi · 16/05/2019 11:54

This is them making an effort. They don't normally look that good!

Aren't you a peach.

Shimy · 16/05/2019 13:35

Duck Well said.
