Mine cost £95 which I don't think was that bad for about 100 items

OP posts:
BooseysMom · 13/05/2019 22:12

Always £80-100 a week for 2 adults and 1 DC. We have tried everywhere and have ended up going back to my no.1 supermarket Waitrose. Given up going to Morissons as always spend over £100 as there is too much there and I get tempted by the offers. We only have a small freezer so can't buy too much to freeze. Hate Lidl...fruit and veg go off too quickly. No Aldi near us. If there was a Sainsburys I'd def go there. Tried all online but doesn't work for me as I forget too much and end up having to go out anyway!

ListenLinda · 13/05/2019 22:12

£76. Will last 10 days, maybe two weeks, with about £15 of top ups for bread and milk.

mytittifersungtheirsong · 13/05/2019 22:21

Last Ocado shop was £65. That's for me and primary school age DD. Only buy organic fruit, milk, cheese, milk etc. On a tight budget but prioritise good quality food for us. I do at least 1 £20 top up per week.

Gingerkittykat · 13/05/2019 22:33

I spent £30 for an adult and teenager on Sat, then already a top up of £20 today but got enough till the end of the week now.

I'm bad for impulse buys, that included a £5 tub of Ben and Jerrys on Sat. I went into Tesco for bread, butter and coffee earlier but spent £20. My impulse of a 49p pineapple, 39p avocado, stuff to make a banana loaf, bacon because I fancied a BLT and sweets today are all small but add up.

I need to get stricter again and say no to DDs ice cream habit! I can easily get it down to £30 for food and still eat well.

notso · 13/05/2019 22:33

Haven't done a weekly shop for a while. I am back in the rut of 2-3 day shops mostly as that's about the maximum I can carry from the supermarket/shops.
They cost between £15 and £40. There's 6 of us, three adults, a giant teen and two primary aged DC. The budget is for all food, snacks, dinner money for two DC a few times a week, cleaning stuff, toiletries and bird food. I'm supposed to be sticking to £550 a month but at the moment am relying on premium bond winnings to top that up every month which is obviously unreliable Hmm

RedWineAllMine · 13/05/2019 22:38

£150 every 2 weeks, that's for 2 of us plus a 5 month old baby.

WindsweptEgret · 13/05/2019 22:40

£30 for an adult and a teen.

SnowWhitesRestingBitchFace · 13/05/2019 22:41

@ArabellaDoreenFig we eat all sorts of different things! But a typical week might be something like this.

Sausage and Chorizo Cassarole with new potatoes or mash.

Spaghetti Bolognese

Roast dinner of some sort

Jacket Potatoes (with salad a probably beans and cheese)

Pie and Mash

Stir fry

Fish and chips

We do a lot of shopping between Aldi and Iceland with bits from tesco and morrisons depending on where we are. That includes all dinners and breakfasts. Kids have lunch at school and DH eats at work so it's just me and baby DS who have lunch at home. That also includes snacks and fruit and veg, juice etc. We might do the odd top up of milk and bread.

AdoraBell · 13/05/2019 22:47

£94.

4 people with 2 teens doing exams so loads of treats to help with the stress

Aroundtheworldandback · 13/05/2019 23:11

This week probably around £350 as dh and I were entertaining over weekend but when it’s just the 2 of us (kids at uni) were on diets so hardly anything.

HippyChickMama · 13/05/2019 23:12

Normally £100-120 a week in Sainsbury's for me, dh, ds (11), dd (5) and one kitten. That's for everything including toiletries, cleaning products, a couple of bottles of wine etc. Dd has breakfast at school breakfast club and gets free lunches because she's in KS1. Ds, dh and I usually have packed lunches and dh is gluten and dairy free so it also includes coconut milk etc which can be expensive. This week though £85! I had a £15 Sainsbury's voucher on my account

flirtygirl · 14/05/2019 00:16

Currently about 45 but this is convenience stuff thrown in. And adds about £10. This is for 2 adults 1 child, child is nearly 10 and eats the same amount.

I usually Batch cook and buy only fresh, Bananas, apples Grapes, potatoes, carrots, Parsnips. I buy frozen garlic no onions. I buy frozen fruit, Tinned fruit and lots of frozen veg Incl cauliflower, broccoli, peas, carrots, peppers, mixed veg, runner beans.

I also buy Oat and almond and Uht milk, 1 person is is 6 cartoons a week almond milk x 89p, youngest drinks 2.5 cartons of Uht so about £1.50 per week. I drink 1 or 2 Oat milk a week but only buy them when £1 each or go without.

This is all meals for 2 people incl snacks, oldest dd has lunch at college 4 days per week and gets a lunch bursary. Food bill goes up by £5 pw for her lunches in holidays as that will buy extra salad, extra potatoes, a loaf of bread for sandwiches plus yorghut or Crisps. This would be mixed with chilli, Quorn etc

I could spend more but refuse to as apart from my chocolate addiction and too many cheap biscuits, we eat well. I buy no red meat, only chicken poppers that cost 79p a pack and do youngest for 2 lunches with other things. Quorn is about £5 per week, but I buy on offer and stock up. 6 - 12 eggs fortnightly.

I log all food spends and takeaway spends. Mcdonalds will cost Max 6 a time as don't buy drinks and use the 1.99 receipt vouchers. Chippy costs 1.80 for small portion but portion is a large compared to my old area and we add stuff to it like baked beans or grilled Quorn sausages.

Pizza we get the £5 offer from pizzahut every couple of months but we all like iceland £1 pizzas.

If money is tight or I'm saving for something then no takeaways at all and just £35 shopping.

I don't buy alcohol or red meat. Most cleaning stuff and toiletries are not counted in this budget. Spend about £20 per year on Bleach, baby wipes, disinfectant, toilet cleaner and washing up liquid. Spend less than £20 per year on soap powder. Use under two of the 111 wash boxes per year, 2 for £20 in Farmfoods. No fabric Conditioner. Used to use soap nuts which cost me £10 for 3 years but went back to soap powder as they do wash but don't get items as clean.

Basic toiletries like San pro, Toothbrushes and toilet tissue are included. My creams are not as I have a separate budget and I order from Avon, the ordinary and a few item from French pharmacy brands. I only use discount codes and quidco. I do 4 orders per year. We do Co washing so no shampoo has been used for a few years now. Poundland do 4 baby soaps that are sulphate and paraben free for £1.

flirtygirl · 14/05/2019 00:16

Sorry that was too long

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 14/05/2019 00:18

£68 and 40p for bags which they didn’t use Hmm (Asda click and collect).

Normally spend around £80.

MarieToulouseBerlioz · 14/05/2019 00:22

£39 for 2 of us from aldi, although I still need to buy some other bits and bobs which will probably come to another £6 or £7

Lifeandbeans · 14/05/2019 00:23

£36 for me and teens.
Already had some freezer stuff though and that does not include the DC lunch.

Gingerkittykat · 14/05/2019 00:28

@flirtygirl I'm amazed at your low cost for cleaning items, £20 a year seems tiny. I buy own brand bleach and washing up liquid, bathroom spray and flash alternative. I don't keep track but it will be a lot more than £20 a year.

What is co washing?

Well done on getting the most for your money.

SnowyAlpsandPeaks · 14/05/2019 00:53

£180 for me and two teen boys, plus dp once or twice a week when he stays here. Still have to do top up’s in between. My fruit and veg can come to £40 each week alone. 3 x strawberries at £2, 4 x blueberries at £2, 2 melons x £4, 10 bags tangerines/sweet clems £15- £18 roughly and so on. It all adds up!!

Do all of you who spend £40 for 4 people, £50 for 6, not buy fruit and veg weekly? Ive tried and have no idea how to get my bill down, but also include my fruit and veg etc.

TheHoundOfWinchester · 14/05/2019 00:58

£59 for 2 adults 14 yr old 10 year old and 3 year old. Will probably do around d another £15-20 on milk/bread/fruit top up on week. That included toiletries, cat food and extra bits for dd's birthday sleepover at weekend.

howlongcanausernamebebeforeits · 14/05/2019 01:08

$270aud. Google tells me this is £144. I've just had to top up with milk and bread and mince too.

Nofilter · 14/05/2019 01:20

£110 but that includes a months worth of a lot of things like toilet rolls, nappies etc. I'll do a £40ish one next and then another £100ish followed by a £40-60 one for the final week of the month. Aldi every fortnight and local on the other weeks for meat, milk, veg and bread basically. There's 2 adults, 1 3Yr old , cats, dogs and £10 of that was on mints, carrots & apples for the horses too!

happyhillock · 14/05/2019 01:38

This week £75 for 2 adult's includes lunches, if i need toiletries and cleaning stuff could be £90.

Happyspud · 14/05/2019 01:39

Snowy so you eat 20 tangerines each a week😅 Do you not think that’s a bit much? 3 a day occasionally yeah fine but 3 every single day each.

Yes mine includes fruit. I usually get 20 bananas £2.80. Two bags of apples £3, and 2 tubs each of strawberries and raspberries (£6). For 6 people so less than half your fruit bill. I’ve a pineapple and mango in this week too. And we are eating mostly vegetarian. No way could I spend £180. Are you buying loads if branded snacks?

CharityConundrum · 14/05/2019 01:42

@ChipsAreLife - if you are near a Tesco, they have loads of special offers on their own brand GF stuff for Coeliac awareness week. I've been clearing out my freezer to stock up on cheap GF stuff to try and keep the costs down a bit.

PomBearWithAnOFRS · 14/05/2019 01:55

I spent £150 today, but it has to last us for a month. It included toiletries, food, and some bits and bobs such as tights and pants.
(My lovely Mam paid for it all, thank Gawd or we would be starving!)
