Mine cost £95 which I don't think was that bad for about 100 items

OP posts:
SherlockSays · 15/05/2019 06:24

£80 - for 2 of us and 10 month old DD (who is fed at nursery 4 days a week). Really need to bring it down but just don't see how it's possible.

BlagMyChicken · 15/05/2019 07:23

I’d love to see shopping lists/receipts for those who can feed a family of 4/5 for under £100! What do you actually buy? Because I must be doing it wrong.

TrashPanda · 15/05/2019 07:27

£125 for 92 items, 2 adults and 3 children under 10. That included some freezer stocking as we've just got a new one and had run stuff down.

Youngandfree · 15/05/2019 08:05

@BlagMyChicken I’ll be doing my shopping today I’ll post mine if you would like 👍

WaxaCuntee · 15/05/2019 08:10

Blagmychicken. No meat

WhoKnewBeefStew · 15/05/2019 08:11

About £110 with booze

formerbabe · 15/05/2019 08:16

I don't necessarily think not buying meat makes it cheaper.

I wanted to make a vegetarian lasagna and the cost of the vegetables was more than the cost of a packet of mince.

A whole chicken can be bought for less than £2.50 whereas a packet of peppers, a courgette and an aubergine would cost about the same and the chicken would feed a family more efficiently.

BlagMyChicken · 15/05/2019 08:25

Youngandfree yes please! I’d love to get our bills down. We meal plan, use/freeze leftovers, etc. One meat meal a week (sometimes two with leftovers), one fish meal. Buy basics from Aldi. I still can’t get anywhere near £100.

wendz86 · 15/05/2019 08:26

£50 for me and two kids . They eat at childminders most days in evening and we are going to get McDonald’s Friday so is mainly for my food and packed lunches for eldest plus dinners at weekend .

ithinkmycatistryingtokillme · 15/05/2019 08:54

About £120, including alcohol and cleaning products, 2 adults, 2 teenagers(13+17) and a cat

ithinkmycatistryingtokillme · 15/05/2019 08:56

We have no aldi or lidl near us, only tesco and a v. expensive local supermarket chain

perhapsiwill · 15/05/2019 09:33

If you think it's okay to buy a chicken for £2.50 I'm sad for you, that is horrible. Before you say 'some people can't afford a chicken that has had more of a life than in a cage. Just buy some lentils, beans etc. Don't encourage the factory farming by buying £2.50 chickens FFS

Kelsoooo · 15/05/2019 09:47

I average £70 a week for 3 adults and 2dds.

Meal plan and I'm in a good rotation of an expensive item each week, usually coinciding with promotional cycles in Tesco , so coffee every three weeks etc.

Last week was £69.74.

formerbabe · 15/05/2019 09:52

You must feel sad for a lot of people then because every time I'm in any supermarket, I see plenty of people picking up chicken that is not organic/free range. In fact I see more people picking up the bog standard chicken than anything else.

And you know what, I don't really care. My priority is to feed my family.

Perhapsiwill · 15/05/2019 09:55

formerbabe Well I don't know how you sleep at night. Perhaps if you were made to actually watch videos of where your £2.50 chicken comes from you might stop, strange world we live in. I know I'm in the minority but I just don't get it. Sad

formerbabe · 15/05/2019 09:58

Formerbabe Well I don't know how you sleep at night

I have plenty of my own stresses and concerns without lying awake at night worrying about factory farming thanks.

HBStowe · 15/05/2019 09:59

A whole chicken can be bought for less than £2.50

Only if you’re buying the absolute cheapest with no concern for animal welfare which, tbh, people shouldn’t be.

It will vary from person to person but I noticed a massive reduction in my grocery bill when I stopped eating meat.

DesperadoDan · 15/05/2019 10:02

Whatever I try and cut back on it always seems to be around £100 a week for me and DS, he has SN and is still in pull ups 24/7, I think these push the bill up. Can have free pads on the NHS but they are shockingly bad quality.
I work weird hours so buy a lot of prepackaged salads and prepared meals, mash etc.

CookPassBabtridge · 15/05/2019 10:11

Ours averages £120, for 2 adults, 2 small kids and a cat.

usernamerisnotavailable · 15/05/2019 10:12

£221.34 this week. Just placed the order. But I have family staying this weekend and a big bbq so that includes 10 bottles of wine and extra food.

Last weeks was also just over £200 but it included cleaning products for the month.

I shop at Ocado and we are 2 adults and 2 DC.

Happyspud · 15/05/2019 10:14

Gosh we save over £1k/ year compared to some on this thread! And the 6/7 of us eat excellently! That’s a nice saving. I do spend £1k/yr on a cleaner though but that’s better than spending it on cleaning productsGrin

NCforthis2019 · 15/05/2019 10:15

about £200 - 2 Adults, 2 Kids - loads of nappies for my toddler (which we wont have to buy for a while) and alcohol included.
