Redundancy-which offer would you take?

mummumumumumumum · 12/05/2019 20:17

We are having a disagreement.

The offer is redundancy with a £5k payout on the 1st of June.
Or
A different role, same pay as you have now but a better job.

Which would you take?

It would depend on how easy you think it would be to find a job elsewhere. If it would be easy, take the redundancy; if not, take the job offer.

Reallybadidea · 12/05/2019 20:19

In what way "better"? And how many months' salary is £5k? How difficult would it be to find another job?

Whisky2014 · 12/05/2019 20:21

Well, depending on your salary id prob go for the job. 5k is 2 months wages to me so wouldn't go far..
The job will offer security and a steady Income amounting to a lot more than 5k

TokyoSushi · 12/05/2019 20:23

Exactly what pp have said, I took the money (similar amount, £7K) I thought it would be easy to get another job, it wasn't, it took 4 months and was a complete nightmare!

Be careful you don't just see pound signs

BlueSkiesLies · 12/05/2019 20:24

The job

BlueSkiesLies · 12/05/2019 20:24

I would only take the pay out if it was equivalent to 6 months pay

CheekyFuckersDontGetPastMe · 12/05/2019 20:25

Take in to account your benefits package, long service benefits etc

I took the new job as my death in service is 6 times my salary and enhanced pension payments along with more holiday for my long service.

KurriKawari · 12/05/2019 20:26

Pretty easy decision if I liked the place I worked at. £5k is two months wage. As a single mum I wouldn't risk not finding another job for the sake if £5k.

VioletCharlotte · 12/05/2019 20:26

How many months salary is £5k? If it were me, I'd stay and take the other job. How easy do you think it'll be to find another job?

CarolsBiggestFan · 12/05/2019 20:28

I’d take the job.

I’d only accept a minimum of 6 months salary as a payout.

BrokenWing · 12/05/2019 20:31

Unless you hated the company and knew you could go straight to a better job than the better one offered I would take the job. £5k is a very short term windfall.

mummumumumumumum · 12/05/2019 20:37

There's no chance of finding the same job or similar because there's only one other company that does it and that's too far away to commute.

The payout is for 2 years of being in a contract but there's another 2 years on zero hours so worked up from the bottom.

The new job is technically is next job up and the highest you can go without being management, would be going in on the same pay as now to start because the job needs training.

How long will £5k pay the bills for?

DanielRicciardosSmile · 12/05/2019 20:39

I'd take the job then. 100%.

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 12/05/2019 20:40

Job then, definitely. Sounds great. It's a promotion, and prospects.

Waveysnail · 12/05/2019 20:40

Why wouldnt you take the new job?

stanski · 12/05/2019 20:43

Job

Whisky2014 · 12/05/2019 20:44

Why is this even being questioned then?

mingebags · 12/05/2019 20:47

It's a promotion. Take it.

AuditAngel · 12/05/2019 20:48

I turned down a payout equivalent to 4 months salary and a job offer that would have been equivalent terms but a much longer commute.

I also had a different internal offer which was more holiday, more money but a different role (the one I used to do) but longer commute.

I don’t know if I made the right decision, but the internal Job is still available. I interviewed for 2 external roles and was offered both, slam confident I could find another job as I have a niche role

3luckystars · 12/05/2019 20:52

I would take the redundancy money because they might shut entirely in July and you will have nothing then.

Take the money and apply anyway for the other role.

Aswad · 12/05/2019 20:55

The job...not sure I could hack not knowing if I'd be unemployed for a while

floraloctopus · 12/05/2019 20:59

If the job is at the same place and you don't take it then you might not get the redundancy money.

MatchSetPoint · 12/05/2019 21:00

5k is nothing, it’s not going to last very long! you are better staying employed.

Purpleartichoke · 12/05/2019 21:06

So what is the plan for employment for taking the redundancy?
