To ask how much your nursery costs?

Thinking of sending Dd to.nursery for 1 or 2 days a week.

Looking at prices just now and ranging from £30-50 per day, meals included, time 8-6

Can I ask what you pay ? Just trying to work out what the average price is though i know its relative to where you live etc

That's really interesting. £50 I think is top end cost of a nursery where I live. Realistically could only afford 1 day at that price. Looking into the tax relief scheme as well.

As a side, apart from childcare does anyone see Other benefits to sending them early ? Learning e.g. speech etc.

Midlands- £50 per day including breakfast, lunch and light tea. (8-6pm) no nappies included.
We did use a nursery in Gloucestershire which was absolutely fantastic and it was only £40 per day including lunch. Sadly moved out the area.

BurnerPhone · 11/05/2019 08:28

£53 per day 7.00-6.30, meals included but not nappies. Very expensive but I need them to be open from 7am as I start work at 7.30. I pick him up after tea at 4pm.

BurnerPhone · 11/05/2019 08:29

That's in Birmingham btw

nauseous5000 · 11/05/2019 09:02

I paid £55 per day in Bristol 7 years ago. Dread to think what it'd be now

Vanannabananna · 11/05/2019 09:05

£55 per day. All meals and nappies inc. 7-45 to 6pm. Southampton area

Gertie75 · 11/05/2019 09:08

Ours if £4.50 an hour and includes a snack and milk but not lunch.

Gertie75 · 11/05/2019 09:17

Regarding other benefits the main thing I noticed was both my dd's relationships with other children improved, they became more social and confident and would share without an issue.
Their literacy and numeracy came on too, I do teach them at home but the nursery has more structure and they could bring out the best in them.
I didn't send them until they were 3 because i preferred them to be with a childminders when they were little so they could have more 1:1 and sleep when they needed to, the eldest is at school now and the childminders drop dd2 at nursery and collect her at 3 on the 2 days I work.

OpportunityKnocks · 11/05/2019 09:27

Nurseries here are between 50-85 a day, but you get what you pay for in my town and the good ones are hugely oversubscribed.

You might be better with 2 mornings rather than a full day as it will help your child settle better at the nursery.

You'll see lots of benefits, language development, social skills, exposure to stuff you wouldn't consider at home, a wide range of resources to develop motor skills, confidence. (used to work at a nursery)

Personally we use a childminder, but that's because it's for 4 days a week and it's a personal preference of ours. I'd send the children to a nursery if it was only 1 or 2 days.

£88.50. 8-6. Doesn’t include wipes or nappies. Zone 1 London.
I find reading these threads incredibly depressing.

Shelbybear · 11/05/2019 11:30

Central Scotland £49 per day includes lunch snacks, nappies etc. There are others in the area a few pounds cheaper. It is 8am to 6pm. I wanted to put her in about 7.45 but they wanted an extra £10 per day for drop offs at 7.40-8am 😮

It seems more expensive than everyone else I work with too who seem to pay £40-45 but slightly different area.

spursheaven · 11/05/2019 13:58

My sis pays £56 day but doesn’t include nappies or earlier drops off than 8am - extra £10 for 730-8am
If it after 615pm then add another £10 on.

Sis pays £1100 month which is 80% of her wage.

Prices usually lower slightly at 2, and then again at 3, due to staff ratios.
1 member of staff = 3 babies (under 2), 4x two year olds, or 8x three+ year olds (or 13, if qualified enough), so they get cheaper to care for as they get older.

There are benefits - children who have never been away from parents when they start "school nursery" tend to find it more difficult, not used to having to wait while other children take a turn at something for example. If ages mix, a lot is learned by toddlers from the older ones too.
I didn't like the thought of babies in nursery, before I qualified at worked in one. A good nursery will help children develop resilience and good relationships with others.
I did know one 6 month old who went through separation anxiety though - it was her key person she didn't want to leave which was hard for both the staff member and parent!

You don't have to go to a LA nursery for the funding, some childminders even register for it I believe (but not many, because the actual amount they get per hour from the funding is terribly low!), But there is something to be said for having that nursery year alongside children they'll go to school with. Also, many offer the 30 hours (England anyway) which can be topped up with wrap around provision which would be the same as when they starts school so worth looking at when the time comes.
(I know our nursery children who use the after-school club are able to book for the following year before "new" families)

Disneymum1993 · 11/05/2019 14:21

Scotland - 33 a day 8-6 and 2.30 for meals

Blueberrycheesecake1 · 11/05/2019 14:23

£95 a day. Cheapest one around!

stanski · 11/05/2019 16:25

£76 a day SW London

trilbydoll · 11/05/2019 16:31

Hampshire - £60ish a day. Tbh now dd1 is at school and dd2 has her free hours, nursery isn't a huge cost. When they were both under 3 and I'd gone back to work it was considerably higher than our mortgage, but the time goes so quickly and all of a sudden here we are, at about 25% of what we used to pay.

Abbazed · 11/05/2019 16:43

Ten quid a week - get the 30 hours so it's just top up

Abbazed · 11/05/2019 16:44

To clarify ten quid for five days - 8.50 till 3.30

Abbazed · 11/05/2019 16:44

2.30 per day for lunch - main and pudding

oblada · 11/05/2019 16:49

38-40 quids a day incl meals. Not incl nappies (would have been pointless for us anyway as I used washable) or milk (same as I gave expressed milk). In the North West.

oblada · 11/05/2019 16:49

Oh it's 730am to 6pm.

Abbazed · 11/05/2019 16:54

Am I the cheapest at 21.50 per week?

DreamingofSunshine · 11/05/2019 16:55

I'm looking at nurseries for DS aged 2 and in a naice zone 2 N London area and it's £95-100 full time 8-6pm.

LaPufalina · 11/05/2019 16:57

£54 a day in Manchester with no reduction as they get older, excluded nappies when she wore them. Food included (breakfast at 9am, lunch 11.30, tea-snack at 3.30). Open 7.30-6pm. My DD is quite sociable and enjoys her two days a week, sometimes doesn't want to leave as is too busy playing and talks about her friends and key carer at home Smile she learns things that I haven't taught her like actions to songs and identifying pictures in books. She was ill a fair bit when she started as their immune system is a bit immature but much less so now at 2.5yo.
