So my DS was at nursery for 7hrs today and they didn’t change his nappy once.
I know for a fact it was the same one as it was a different brand to what was in his bag. I have emailed, been promised feedback Monday. Wwud?

Not unreasonable, that’s awful

BogglesGoggles · 10/05/2019 21:05

Is he potty training in a pull up by any chance?

QueenBlueberries · 10/05/2019 21:05

How old is he? Surely after 7 hours the nappy would have exploded! Are you sure the nursery didn't keep of few spare nappies from a previous bag you gave them? I use to childmind and I often kept a few spare nappies in my changing area instead of going in the children's bag every time.

HollyGoLoudly1 · 10/05/2019 21:06

What @QueenBlueberries said ^^

mummy21boy · 10/05/2019 21:06

No not potty training, in a normal nappy not pull up.
I know he doesn’t drink as much when he’s at nursery but it was still pretty full although not leaking when I got him home

I'd be v concerned but I'd be surprised if he wasnt changed at all. They may have used another childs nappies by mistake. I'd hang on for a response. They will have logs if changes

If it wasnt changed then I personally think that is much too long in the daytime, and I would expect them to be v apologetic

mummy21boy · 10/05/2019 21:07

Definitely not possible that they had the same brand

OP posts:
moreismore · 10/05/2019 21:08

That is bad! Having said that my son once had pants put back on over his pull up after naptime and no one noticed til I collected. Turned out staff member was dealing with a personal tragedy. Was it a one off? We’re all human. (Though you’re not wrong to raise it)

mummy21boy · 10/05/2019 21:09

This is possibly outing but the nappy I put on him before taking him was from another country from our holiday. The ones in his bag were all from home

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 10/05/2019 21:11

How old is he?

Drogosnextwife · 10/05/2019 21:12

That's pretty bad OP. How long has he been at the nursery?

DaisysStew · 10/05/2019 21:13

This exact thing happened with my son a couple of years ago. Realised when we were half way home and his nappy exploded with wee, and it was definitely the same nappy - nursery always used a different brand and not pull ups so I knew as soon as I looked.

I emailed the manager immediately and she was horrified. They had a full investigation and the outcome was that they admitted that they had messed up and somehow manage to forget my son during the 3 separate nappy change times they had. They apologised, put a new procedure in place and had a training session with staff involved to ensure that it didn’t happen again.

Passthecherrycoke · 10/05/2019 21:13

That’s horrendous and deserves a proper complaint

AppleKatie · 10/05/2019 21:15

That’s bad. When I had DC in nappies I once had cause to complain to the nursery about poor nappy changes. They:

  1. Took me really seriously.
  2. Manager apologised.
  3. Staff member responsible was made to apologise.
  4. Staff member was put on a ‘nappy supervision’ where she was supervised doing nappies for the next two weeks until she could ‘prove’ she was competent.
Sassypants82 · 10/05/2019 21:16

That's awful. I'd be really unhappy with that.

mummy21boy · 10/05/2019 21:18

I’m really upset about it tbh I sent her an email and she’s thanked me for bringing it to her attention and promised to investigate at the start of Monday... no apology yet though
He’s 3 but pretty much non verbal

OP posts:
mummy21boy · 10/05/2019 21:20

He’s been there for 18mths and loves it. I’m sure they were short staffed today but still...

OP posts:
Copperandtod · 10/05/2019 21:22

Are they trying in underhand way to encourage you to consider toilet training?

mummy21boy · 10/05/2019 21:26

We have started toilet training him at home but as he’s non verbal we haven’t tried it at nursery yet and they know he has additional needs they got extra funding to give him extra help

OP posts:
EggAndButter · 10/05/2019 21:30

The fact he has additional needs and is non verbal makes it worse tbh.

IceRebel · 10/05/2019 21:31

I’m sure they were short staffed today

Woah hold on, so not only did they not change his nappy they were also over ratio? I'd be worried about what other policies and procedures they're no adhering to, if they're so blasé about the care they are giving to the children. Shock

Thehop · 10/05/2019 21:31

This is outrageous. I’d be devastated if I missed a child’s nappy.

Even if your schedule goes to pot, you surely see when you’re playing/supervising/picking up children during the day that a nappy feels full and change it? We all do!!!

Poor chap

Tavannach · 10/05/2019 21:33

Not acceptable.

they know he has additional needs they got extra funding to give him extra help

This makes it doubly unacceptable. I think you have to look for another nursery and let whichever body provides the extra funding know.

CripsSandwiches · 10/05/2019 21:34

YANBU. If it had been 7 hours wasn't the nappy visibly bulging? Sounds like they haven't been paying him enough attention in general as well as not sticking to a schedule with his nappy.

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 10/05/2019 21:35

poor ds. Completely unacceptable.
