So my DS was at nursery for 7hrs today and they didn’t change his nappy once.
I know for a fact it was the same one as it was a different brand to what was in his bag. I have emailed, been promised feedback Monday. Wwud?

Interesting to see this thread is rather more sensible ...

Have you had any issues like this before or is this a one off? In our nursery they have 3 set changing times during the day when they change their nappies even if they're only slightly wet, and they also change a soiled nappy when it happens. If it's a one off then I'd wait to get an explanation and take things from there. If stuff like this has happened before then I would not be happy.

Thanks @TheSheepofWallSt I didn't think I was crazy!

7 hours in a nursery setting is unacceptable. They are paid to provide care for your child. This includes nappy changes at set intervals, as well as extras if needed. At my children’s nursery it seems to be approximately every 2-3 hours.

My DD is 18m. I probably use 4 or 5 a day on average. One of those being for 12 hours overnight.

OP, for your reference to go into your nursery on Monday (as you are def not BU) at the nursery where I work at, there are generally 3 times during the day where we change every child’s nappy (standard 10 hour day) - these are the times where as essentially plough through everyone. However, poo is obviously changed immediately, and the rule is no more than 3hours since the last change. We also have it in our policy that babies are put to bed fresh.
We have a log sheet in the room with children’s names, time of change, wet or soiled and whether cream was used.
The nursery should have this. I would ask to see it and ask what their plan of action is to continue.

This shouldn’t require an immediate jump to ofsted. a good nursery will investigate thoroughly and inform you of outcome and action.

@Ginger1982 the 6-8 times a day only really applies to the newborn stage. I have a newborn who I currently change that many times a day, sometimes more if he poos a lot. My 2 year old I change x3 times in the day, and just before bed (He poos in the toilet). Sometimes it's less if it's not hanging off him full of wee. He's not uncomfortable and doesn't get nappy rash so don't see the need to unnecessarily change it more.

Different for nursery though as they are paid to do this, and it's a setting where (unlike home) your child hasn't got full focused attention so if the nursery allows little things like this to slip, then it's a worrying indicator that there may be other standards they drop the ball on.
