To think brioche bread does not go with burgers

It's sweet. It's like having your burger in a Belgium bun.

But only the Aldi ones.....

RainbowWaffles · 10/05/2019 19:51

I love them. I’m sorry.

Eistigi · 10/05/2019 19:52

they are horrible with burgers. Too sweet, and they fall apart, just no!

Absolutely! Waaay too sweet, and don't hold together.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 10/05/2019 19:52

I like them- adding a buttery bun (aka brioche) to a burger was genius

HalfBearOtherHalfCat · 10/05/2019 19:54

I'm American, but seem to have missed out on the donut burger - thankfully.

Agree totally that brioche burgers are shit. I used to love a good burger at Ruby Tuesday, but haven't had one there in years now since they started exclusively using brioche buns probably better for my waistline tbh Why on earth can't they offer a choice of bun? Brioche for the weirdos and a normal bun for normal people.

NaturalBornWoman · 10/05/2019 19:57

How about chicken waffles and maple syrup then?

I had that in New York last week and I wasn't a fan. Brioche French toast with bacon and maple syrup however was fantastic!

SinkGirl · 10/05/2019 19:59

YADBU. However, it really depends on the brioche bun - some are way too sweet and awful. Some are much more subtle and brilliant. The M&S ones (and especially the posh dogs and posh dog buns) are very yummy.

OhMyGodTheyKilledKenny · 10/05/2019 20:01

I agree that some are too sweet but Lidl ones are good.

justasking111 · 10/05/2019 20:03

My friend emigrating to the States, sugar in bread was something she struggled with, could not eat. Luckily she discovered an Irish shop which sold unsweetened UK style bread. If I see the burger on the menu is in a brioche bun I ask for a naked burger with salad and chips.

sam221 · 10/05/2019 20:09

Brioche thickly sliced from a loaf and lightly dipped in tea is the tastiest! I need seeded cheap white buns for a burger, although I only eat burger maybe a couple times a year, so when i do- i go to town-including the those weird cheese slices.

Safirexx · 10/05/2019 20:11

YABU, they totally do. The Lidl ones are lush.

MaMisled · 10/05/2019 20:16

Ridiculous combination. White sesame seed bun or nothing.

ElBandito · 10/05/2019 20:18

DS is allergic to sesame so if I see brioche buns on the menu I’m quite pleased, and so is he.

MockerstheFeManist · 10/05/2019 20:22

Most Importantly, a note to all the poncey chefs on TV:

A burger is mincemeat, formed into a disc. Nothing else. Nothing else.

All your other items, you arrange them above and below.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 10/05/2019 20:24

I love them but the bastard things have no structural integrity.

phoenixrosehere · 10/05/2019 20:39

Agree with SinkGirl. It does depend on the brand as well as what you put on the burger. If you’re adding ketchup, of course it’s going to be too sweet, if you add tomatoes nope.

phoenixrosehere · 10/05/2019 20:41

I bagel toast my brioche buns so don’t have the issue of them falling apart.

Schnitzelvonkrumb · 10/05/2019 20:49

I'm not keen on brioche burgers either....or when you go somewhere and the stack with brioche + 58 responsibly sourced artisan mayo/cheese/salad/poncy filling ingredients make the burger so high it needs a scaffold pole wooden skewer to secure it. I thought burgers were meant to be finger food!!

AdaColeman · 10/05/2019 20:52

I like sliced toasted brioche with a smooth duck or chicken pate.
I tried a brioche bun with bacon, but I didn't enjoy it, too much soft texture.

whee2y · 10/05/2019 20:57

Correct! But I think people need to try burgers wrapped in mini garlic and herb Naan breads though..Awesome

bibbitybobbityyhat · 10/05/2019 20:59

Yanbu, it's disgusting and mystifying. Sweet bread? yuck!

EskeewdBeef · 10/05/2019 21:01

They're nice with veggie burgers, adds a bit of richness.

MyBlueMoonbeam · 10/05/2019 21:02

YABU

Yum 😋

CarolDanvers · 10/05/2019 21:04

The best burger I ever ate was on a brioche bun. They certainly do go together. YABU.

stoplickingthetelly · 10/05/2019 21:25

OP I agree with you 100%. Why on earth would you put a savoury burger in a sweet bun???? I used to love having a burger when we went out for a pub tea, but can’t anymore because it’s always a bloody brioche bun. Burgers have been ruined for me now.
