It's sweet. It's like having your burger in a Belgium bun.

To think brioche bread does not go with burgers

Agreed, randomchap exactly my thoughts. Yuck.

YorkshireBelle2019 · 10/05/2019 18:45

Totally agree, it is sweet and doesn't go with burgers at all.

I'm veggie and think brioche is even worse with non- meat-style veggie burgers as there's usually quite a bit of sweetness already from the veg.

I suspect it only started being used because it looks all golden and pretty

Reminds me of my first trip to France in our car with DH and another couple many years ago
Arrived on a Monday when (at that time) all local shops seemed to be closed all day. We still laugh about the only bread we could find in the only open shop on the journey being strangely sweet and not very good for the ham sandwiches we were trying to make.Blush

Where the hell is serving this mess inside a wrapper ??

UpsydaisyandIgglePiggleareatit · 10/05/2019 18:49

Yabu... it’s lovely!!! Also hot dog buns too, they are the best. But I’m a lover of the sweet and salty combo.

MintyCedric · 10/05/2019 18:51

I agree they don't go with beef, but southern fried chicken fillet with iceberg lettuce, salsa, mayo and cheese in brioche is da bomb!

placemats · 10/05/2019 18:53

YABVVVU

That's not the brioche bun your looking for.

Zakana · 10/05/2019 18:53

Wrong on so many levels, but my son is the only one in the household who has brioche buns for burgers and hot dogs. Mind you, I don’t even like salted caramel!

LittleAndOften · 10/05/2019 18:54

I think they are lighter than white buns but I don't mind either. DH insists on them now though, so I insist on getting them in Lidl. Sainsburys ones are overpriced, overpackaged and you only get 2 in a pack!

Don't go to America OP, they do burgers between 2 DOUGHNUTS ShockShock

Now that is grim.

Disfordarkchocolate · 10/05/2019 18:55

It's awful. Many a time my sons fancied a burger and couldn't have it because they only had brioche buns and he's lactose intolerant.

Stormwhale · 10/05/2019 18:56

Completely agree. It also doesn't go with bacon. I bought a bacon roll the other day and was looking forward to a salty savoury treat. It was in a brioche roll and it just wasnt right at all.

TeenTimesTwo · 10/05/2019 18:56

I totally agree.
David Lloyd Leisure has ruined its menu by introducing brioche buns.

flugelhorn81 · 10/05/2019 18:57

Oh no I love brioche buns!

Also sorry to be an arse but this is one of my pet hates - it's Belgian bun, not Belgium.

MrTumblesSpottyHag · 10/05/2019 19:04

It's a disgusting combination and should be outlawed. See also; brioche hotdog buns 🤮

Heyha · 10/05/2019 19:05

YANBU. Meat doesn't go with cake.

CoraPirbright · 10/05/2019 19:05

Love brioche burger buns!! But I think they are often not as sweet as the ones you buy as a cake option.

CripsSandwiches · 10/05/2019 19:05

I don't think the "brioche buns" are real brioche but I quite like them with burgers.

DaisiesAreOurSilver · 10/05/2019 19:06

Agreed!

Waveysnail · 10/05/2019 19:07

Local cafe does amazing brioche sausage sandwich yum

BaaBaaBaaMoo · 10/05/2019 19:07

The Aldi sesame seed brioche ones are fab and not sweet at all.

Noobcrumble · 10/05/2019 19:09

Nasty! Ordered a burger for my son and myself and wondered what had been spilt on it to cause the sweetness! (years ago when brioche for savoury was the new thing/I’m thick)

villanova · 10/05/2019 19:10

Brioche buns work well with a lot of veggie burgers, possibly because a lot of the ones with real veg in (e.g. carrot, beetroot) have a slightly sweet taste anyway. I enhance mine with fig chutney or onion jam for a really sweet savoury experience.

WickedGoodDoge · 10/05/2019 19:11

Thank God other people think this! It’s become so common I thought I was the only person who thinks a sweet rolls and burgers do not go together!

ItsAllGone19 · 10/05/2019 19:11

I thought I was the only one who hates the brioche & burger combo!

My husband loves it and rolls his eyes at me everytime I decline a burger cooked by him he thinks he's a chef and you must have food the way he wants to create it

His insistence on brioche rolls being the roll of choice at home is helping massively with my healthy eating bid though Grin

LittleAndOften · 10/05/2019 19:13

It's funny how everything goes in cycles. I remember how sweet Wimpy buns were in the 80s and we used to moan about it. How ironic this is now a desirable thing!
