To ask about your children's heights?

HennyPennyHorror · 07/05/2019 11:52

Has anyone got one child who seems quite tall and another who's short?

DD is 10 and almost 5 feet which I know isn't enormous but DD1 is 14 and only 5.1...it annoys poor DD1 that she's smaller. All DD1s mates seem to be giraffe-like too...both the lads and the girls...some of them are cracking on for 6 foot.

I tell them both that height doesn't matter and they've both got time for anything to happen yet...what about your DC?

both boys are 6ft plus, but dd is only about 5ft4. I am the shortest in my family at 5'7" and dh is the tallest in his at 5'10"

Donnasaurus · 07/05/2019 12:19

My daughter is 12 and already 5"8, she's head and shoulders above all the other children in her year, she likes being tall thankfully and my husband is 6"9 so she was never going to be small

Kaddm · 07/05/2019 12:21

How tall are you and their dad though...that’s generally the answer

steff13 · 07/05/2019 12:22

I'm 5'8", my husband is 5'11". #1 son is 6', #2 son is 6'3", and I'm not sure about the girl one. She's only 8, so she's still growing.

PinkiOcelot · 07/05/2019 12:25

Dd1 is 17 and 5’2” and very petite (size 6). Dd2 is 14, 5’6” and a size 10. People think that dd2 is the eldest.

greenelephantscarf · 07/05/2019 12:27

was ds ill a lot as child? fussy eater?
'lazy' (not a lot exercise outside?) deficiencies (iron, b12)?

those can affect growth in children apart from the genetic factors.

I know 2 siblings 4 years apart where the older (boy) is a couple of inches shorter than the girl.

Timmythyme · 07/05/2019 12:27

How tall was DD1 when she was 10? Some girls seem to have an early growth spurt and are tall at 10 but by year 11 they are the shortest.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 07/05/2019 12:29

Dd is 5 ft 5 at 17
Ds1 is 5 ft 8 at 20
Ds2 is 5 ft 7 at 15

Ds1 is not happy Grin

Seeline · 07/05/2019 12:31

My DD is nearly 15 and has just reached 5'2". The last 6 months or so have seen her grow a lot (for her). She has always been tiny, but is suddenly overtaking the shortest of her friends - she is delighted! Has your DD had a growth spurt in the past?

CurtainsOpen · 07/05/2019 12:34

DS1 15 5'9
DS2 12¾ 5'2

Waiting ominously for the second spurt.

JustSomebodyThatIUsedToKnow · 07/05/2019 12:35

I’m 5’2, my sister is 5’8 and brother 6’1 (our dad is 6ft and our mum 5’5ish). I think I just got the short gene! (My children are all slightly shorter than average, albeit with a lot of growing to go).

CatherineVelindre · 07/05/2019 12:36

DH 6' 5"
I am 5' 8"
DD1 (adult) 5' 5"
DD2 (16) 5' 11" and possibly still growing.

DD1 was very tall for her age and then stopped growing aged 11.
DD2 was very very tall for her age - and kept growing!
Both were big babies at birth. DD1 was diagnosed as a young adult with a chronic health condition, but the symptoms didn't manifest until she was 17 and had stopped growing long before!

RedSkyLastNight · 07/05/2019 12:37

DD is 5 foot and likely stopped growing.
DS is 6 foot and likely to grow more.

There was a period, when DD was about 9, that they were the same height and she was the tallest out of her peers (who have all since passed her).

I find it incredibly annoying whenever anyone says "at least they are the right way round, if you're going to have one tall child, it 's better it's the boy" ... can anyone explain why? Other than being heightist (is that a word)?

Thesearmsofmine · 07/05/2019 12:38

Yes! My 8 year old ds is like DH long and lean and is nearly as tall as me. My 6 year old ds is small like me. It’s been the same since they were born. My youngest ds looks like he will also be tall.

IsYourGoogleBroken · 07/05/2019 12:38

DS1 = 6'4 and a very important half
DS2 = 6'5"
DS3 = a mere 6' 2 but with 3 years growing to do yet.

I always said DS1 would be the short arse of the bunch. I hope DS3 gets to 6'6" then he can officially classified as a giant Grin

Deadringer · 07/05/2019 12:40

I am 5' 3'' and my dh is 5'8''. My older DD is 5'5'' my younger one is 5'8'' and my son is 6'1"' (all adults) I am the smallest in my very large family, my sisters range in height from 5'4'' to 5'8'', my brothers from 5'7'' to 6'1''. Variety is the spice of life!

WindsweptEgret · 07/05/2019 12:44

DS just 13, 5'0

TwinsTrollsandHunz · 07/05/2019 12:44

Me - 5’8”
DH - 5’10”

DS1 (adult) 5’8”
DS2 (adult) 5’10”
DD (17) 5’8”

Both boys were at the shorter end in the peer groups growing up and DD was always at the taller end.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 07/05/2019 12:45

7yo DD is 135cm
6yo DD has had a bit of a growth spurt is is now approaching 120cm... The gap used to be a lot bigger. People presume their age gap is a few years not 20 months. I'm 5.7, DH is 5.8.

sugarbum · 07/05/2019 12:45

It happens. Not personally, but a close friend has daughters the same age as my DS's (12 and 9)
The 12 year old was teeny at birth (full term) like a little doll, and has always been so. The 9 year old was average size at birth. These days, the 12 year old is taller, but only by an inch.

mummyof2boys30 · 07/05/2019 12:46

Only young here but ds1(9) is shortest in his class. His younger brother (6) by 2.5years is now taller and the biggest by far in his class. Both weighed exact same as babies.

nokidshere · 07/05/2019 12:50

DH is 6ft 6
I am 5ft 3

DS1 is 6ft 1 at age 20 but he grew tall at a very early age and was always the tallest in class until yr12

DS2 is 6ft 3 at age 17 but still growing. He was always the tallest in his class up until yr11 but now he's in an A level class of 7 boys and he is the shortest Shock

andadietcoke · 07/05/2019 12:52

I'm 5'8", DH is 6'2"

DTs are about 10cm different - the taller, younger twin is tall for her age, and the smaller, 'older' twin is small. Like so many things in my little DIY sociological experiment, nature wins out over nurture (in terms of food they've eaten or not eaten, vitamin intake etc).

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 07/05/2019 12:55

I have a boy aged 6 and a girl aged 4.
Both in size 4-5 clothes and size 10 shoes.
Boy only slightly taller than girl.
