To ask about your children's heights?

Has anyone got one child who seems quite tall and another who's short?

DD is 10 and almost 5 feet which I know isn't enormous but DD1 is 14 and only 5.1...it annoys poor DD1 that she's smaller. All DD1s mates seem to be giraffe-like too...both the lads and the girls...some of them are cracking on for 6 foot.

I tell them both that height doesn't matter and they've both got time for anything to happen yet...what about your DC?

Not sure about ds2 but ds1 is my height 5 foot 7 or thereabouts at the age of 11, plus size 8 shoes. Other year 7s look so dinky. Many of whom are 12 already. He's got a healthy BMI just bloody tall.

I was average height up till 13 & had a growth spurt taking me to 5ft 9. My feet are only size 5.5 so you can be tall without big feet! DH also grew late & was on the shorter side until 14 & then went up to 6.2. Our 2dc are average but hopefully they will grow later.

Older DSis was always taller than me on our height record at home. She stopped growing at 13 and is 5ft 7, I stopped at 18 and am 5ft 10.

Nat6999 · 07/05/2019 20:16

I'm 5'5" & my brother is 6'5" neither of our parents are/were very tall, our dad was 5'10" & mum is 5'4". My DS is 6'1" at 15 & still growing.

Sometimes it feels like a competition

I always tell my DC that height is not an achievement Grin

Daughter is on the 50th centile. Son is on the 99.6th. He's 3 years younger and will overtake her in height soon.

PookieDo · 08/05/2019 19:35

Mum and dad both 5’6

When I did the measuring at 2.5 they came out around 5’2-3 as adults

DD1 was on a very low percentile from birth (v small) until 5 when I stopped bothering with it she was tiny. She is now 16 and 5’1
DD2 is 14 and 5’
They both have little size 3 feet and no one has grown for months

puppylovebaby · 08/05/2019 19:37

DD 13 is 5ft5
DS 12 is 5ft3

PookieDo · 08/05/2019 19:38

@Timmythyme

My DD16 is very upset about this possibility that she’s now fully grown. I keep telling her she may grow a bit more you never know!

Notsosimple · 08/05/2019 19:46

My DS 7 and 10 year old are exactly the same height.

PenguinsRabbits · 08/05/2019 19:48

DD is 5 foot 6 and 13, same height as me already.

DS 12 not sure of his exact height but proudly calls himself a midget and is tiny by comparison. At old school he was one of smallest, moved areas from London to countryside and currently above average height in new school. Confused

stuffedpeppers · 08/05/2019 22:44

DS 11 - 5ft7.5 : size 9 feet predicted 6ft5/6
DS 9 - 5ft 1 Size 6 feet predicte 6ft 2/3

I worked out my DC heights when they were 2 years old. I found out much later that you should measure boys when they are 2 1/2 years old. At that age children are already half their adult height. I estimated DD1 at 5’ 8”, she had glandular fever at 17 and stopped growing for awhile then grew a bit more and her height is 5’ 6 1/2”. DS I estimated to be around 6’ 1 1/2” and he is 6’ 3”. I should have measured him when he was 2.5 years old though being a boy. DD2 I estimated her to be 5’ 10” and she is. Both DS and DD2 stopped growing at 12 years of age and then started growing at a rapid rate when they were 15. We used to measure DS as he was growing so fast for awhile and he grew an inch a month.

My younger brother and sister are twins and I was away for a year and saw them when they were 14. DB was a head shorter than DSis, by the time they finished growing DSis is 5’ 6” and DB is 6’. Girls are often taller than boys from around age 5 until 12 - 14.

Every child grows at his/her own pace, I wouldn't worry about it
