A parent who takes her DCs to school and then goes home and goes to bed for most of the morning and then gets up a couple of hours before collecting the DCs and then goes to bed about the normal time for an adult.

That they might be depressed?

MollysMummy2010 · 06/05/2019 21:34

Lucky cow.

MyAuntyBadger · 06/05/2019 21:35

Thyroid problem? Insomnia?

Passthecherrycoke · 06/05/2019 21:35

Depressed or other mental illness

Aimily · 06/05/2019 21:36

Low iron levels?

ImNotHappyaboutitPauline · 06/05/2019 21:36

I'd probably just assume they were tired/run down or possibly had a chronic illness. Why?

HomeMadeMadness · 06/05/2019 21:36

Every single day? I'd say they're either depressed or have a medical issue (sleep apnea? Thyroid? Aneamia).

domton · 06/05/2019 21:36

Chronic illness or depression.

HomeMadeMadness · 06/05/2019 21:37

Obviously if she just did it once in a while I would think - good for her wish I had the time!

englishdictionary · 06/05/2019 21:37

I would think they were ill if it was a regular thing. If not regular I wouldn't give it a second thought.

Tearsofgravy · 06/05/2019 21:38

This sounds similar to someone I know with mental health issues. Try not to judge, you can't always know what is going on in people's lives.

Also as am currently living with DS under 1 I would love to doze through the day tomorrow! Nothing wrong with that!

TokyoSushi · 06/05/2019 21:38

Occasionally, amazing!

Every day, not right, depressed/ill/something else

CloserIAm2Fine · 06/05/2019 21:40

I would assume either physical or mental illness of some kind of it was a regular occurrence (and not recovering from night shifts or night waking with a baby).

As a one off I’d assume they were tired and possibly run down but not think much of it.

Asta19 · 06/05/2019 21:44

I can sleep like that and often do! I’ve always been the same. I’m not depressed and when I need to be up the whole day I can manage it fine. But there is something about being at home, and the bed is just there, all warm and inviting, it’s very hard to say no to! I guess a bit like a chocolate addict having lots of chocolate in the house and trying not to eat it all! I am a bed addict!

If this isn’t you, and it’s not affecting you, then why is it any of your business? If she has nothing else that needs to be done then leave her to it. She might just be bored! That’s sometimes why I go to bed! If it is you and you feel ok doing it then tell everyone else to bugger off!

EleanorOalike · 06/05/2019 21:46

Chronic fatigue, underactive thyroid, anaemia.

I certainly wouldn’t be judgemental about it. People don’t sleep their life away for no reason

youngestisapsycho · 06/05/2019 21:50

I‘d think it strange, but that she has her reasons for doing it... not my business. If she were a close friend i’d maybe ask if all was ok?

TrickyKid · 06/05/2019 21:54

Depression, Fybro or other chronic illness if it's all the time. I can and do so this when I've got pmt as it wipes me out. Don't care what other people think to be honest.

Hahaha88 · 06/05/2019 21:55

I'd think it's really got naff all to do with you as long as she's looking after her DC sufficiently when they are home

Thehop · 06/05/2019 21:56

Lucky lucky lucky

I could sleep on a chickens lip, I’m so tired.

Gertie75 · 06/05/2019 21:56

That's my plan when dd2 starts school in September!
I love sleeping and at the weekend don't wake until after 9am then get up around 10, I hate the school day 7am alarm and intend to drop dd's at school then finish my sleep.

TheTreeHearsYourSecret · 06/05/2019 22:07

Possibly medical condition that causes chronic fatigue?

I have one, I don't shout it from the rooftops or even whisper it quietly. Grin I don't tell people that I have to sleep during the day, people get quite arsey about it.

Bringbackthestripes · 06/05/2019 22:08

M.E, fibromyalgia, arthritis, hypothyroidism, chronic anaemia ........or could just be lazy. Whatever the reason I wouldn’t give it much thought at all really.

Why do you care?

Popskipiekin · 06/05/2019 22:08

I could do this... having to be up at 6.30am every.single.day kills me - I could loll in bed until midday or later, when especially tired I reckon I could sleep through until 2pm - just haven’t had the chance for 4 years Grin kids. @gertie75 what is your secret of 10am weekend lie ins with a preschooler??

Butterfly84 · 06/05/2019 22:09

That's not necessarily depression. Sounds like someone who loves sleep and is making the most of lie ins, whether it be lie ins in two halves.

Does this person seem depressed in any other ways? Or show any signs of illness?

furryelephant · 06/05/2019 22:10

The might start their day a lot earlier than most, and break their sleep into 2 cycles- eg sleep 10pm-3/4am (for any reason- able to go to the gym if there's another adult in the house, just always wake early and struggle to sleep) then have a few more hours later in the day. Their kids might sleep terribly so they're knackered!
