To never eat salsa again?

StickyBlisteredAnus · 06/05/2019 20:28

I took the salsa out of the fridge and it had fluffy mould all across the top. Checked the date and it expired yesterday. I showed it to DH. He scraped the fluff off the top and ate it.

I can’t get over it. I feel sick and don’t think I’ll ever be able to eat salsa again. DH thinks I’m over reacting. AIBU to be repulsed?

I ate a mouldy greek yoghurt the other day. I scraped around the edges with the spoon, thought it tasted very alcohol-like looked down and the edges were covered in green fluffy mould.

So so gross...

ThatdamnMIL · 06/05/2019 20:57

The mould is unlikely to make him ill, unless he has an allergy to it, mould is known a food spoilage bacteria, not a pathogenic (food poisoning) bacteria, if he is going to be ill (unlikely as it is), the symptoms will take at least 6 hours to manifest themselves

ClareSleepy · 06/05/2019 20:58

That's utterly revolting.

Shockers · 06/05/2019 21:01

He’ll be reet. We used to slice mould off cheese and scrape it off the top of jam when I were a lass Wink.

Vulpine · 06/05/2019 21:03

I've done the same sort of thing. Still alive

Gth1234 · 06/05/2019 21:07

I wouldn't have eaten it, but it wouldn't have put me off. maybe the pack seal wasn't airtight. Just one of those things.

maybe it shows the brand of salsa didn't have loads of chemicals and preservatives.

Lalliella · 06/05/2019 21:10

Theresa May does this so it’s fine!

Ginkypig · 06/05/2019 21:13

By the time you see mould it has invaded the entire food it's on, the spores have got it all!

It hasn't stopped me taking the middle slices of the bread or cutting it off cheese before though! Although then I was so poor it was that or not eat at all.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 06/05/2019 21:15

Penicillin is fruit mould though isn’t it?

I wouldn’t do it, but I’ve known people scrape the mould off jam.

Bezalelle · 06/05/2019 21:17

Red tentacles!

faints clean away

TinklyLittleLaugh · 06/05/2019 21:18

And mould is not bacteria. It is fungus.

Livedandlearned · 06/05/2019 21:21

I wasn't going to say the whole story of the red tentacles but here it is; dh has been known to eat moudly food, not the actual mould but the ok bits. Well one morning he ate some greek yogurt and on his way to work he felt something in his mouth, and when he fished it out it was a red stringy tentacle. He's probably forgotten all about it but i haven't Envy

bebeboeuf · 06/05/2019 21:24

His gut health is probably amazing though Grin

MadCatEnthusiast · 06/05/2019 21:28

I wouldn’t do it, but I’ve known people scrape the mould off jam.

One being Theresa May Grin

FireFighter999 · 06/05/2019 21:28

Urgh move him next to the toilet for the night, got a feeling he will be hugging it before long!

GabsAlot · 06/05/2019 21:29

gross-i did eat a slive of bread once with one green bit on it-which i removed

cocodash · 06/05/2019 21:29

What a bossy purple guy!!! Lol

DobbyTheHouseElk · 06/05/2019 21:31

I always scrape mould off homemade jam. But only a new pot. If it’s halfway through and it gets mouldy I chuck it....

userxx · 06/05/2019 21:36

Eating mouldy food is fine. My mum used to serve me mouldy toast , she'd get arsey when I was like yuk WTF, apparently it's like penicillin so good for you. Righto mum.

ZippyBungleandGeorge · 06/05/2019 21:37

Meh, I've scraped mould off of jam, curry paste, cheese, bread, always eat out of date things. I don't remember the last time I had an upset stomach. DH thinks I'm gross and wants to throw things out on best before dates and has a delicate tummy, I think the mould gives me super powers.
