To never eat salsa again?

StickyBlisteredAnus · 06/05/2019 20:28

I took the salsa out of the fridge and it had fluffy mould all across the top. Checked the date and it expired yesterday. I showed it to DH. He scraped the fluff off the top and ate it.

I can’t get over it. I feel sick and don’t think I’ll ever be able to eat salsa again. DH thinks I’m over reacting. AIBU to be repulsed?

I would not be risking eating mouldy stuff. Google mycotoxins and you'll soon see why it's not a great idea.

TapasForTwo · 06/05/2019 21:44

"Joking aside though, is he likely to become ill?"

Possibly.
Dry foods that aren't porous like hard cheeses are safe to eat with the mould cut away
Wet, soft or porous foods are likely to be riddles with mould spores. The tentacle analogy is an excellent one, and describes very well how mould spores spread.

This article explains which mouldy foods are safe to eat, and which ones aren't.

"And mould is not bacteria. It is fungus."

Within the food production industry mould is classed a food spoilage bacteria

SmileEachDay · 06/05/2019 21:58

Some species even have "tentacles" that reach behind the scenes, stretching a dozen feet or more
😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱

That’s from T’internet so must be true. A DOZEN FEET!!!!

RabbityMcRabbit · 06/05/2019 22:11

Apparently Theresa May scrapes the mould off jam...

bebeboeuf · 06/05/2019 22:35

Can jam grow mould?

If ham was growing mould I would assume something had got into it

TinklyLittleLaugh · 06/05/2019 22:52

Within the food production industry mould is classed a food spoilage bacteria

That’s like saying within the pet industry a dog is classed as a turnip. It is total bollocks.

A mould and a bacteria are completely different things.

nakedscientist · 06/05/2019 23:46

mould is known a food spoilage bacteria, not a pathogenic (food poisoning) bacteria,

Sorry, sorry, sorry, I really shouldn't say this BUT, MOULD IS NOT BACTERIA. Its err... A mould which is a type of fungus.

Some can make you sick.

DastardlyTentacles · 07/05/2019 09:02

I do not like to find tentacles in my food! Unless I have ordered a plate of octopus but that would not be an everyday occurrence.

He’s fine, I however was woken up with stomach pain last night and it’s not really gone away. And I didn’t even eat it!

salsa is the nectar of mexican gods and must be consumed by all. i do like to dip a nice gherk (gherkin) into salsa for a crunchy mouth suprise. mould is good for you, boosts your immune system and adds some extra texture.
a good tip is to stir your salsa every two days to avoid fur build up, has worked a treat for me

SummerHouse · 07/05/2019 18:22

OP the tentacles have found their way into you.

A and E NOW.

...or call 101 and document the tentacle conversation for us.

SummerHouse · 07/05/2019 18:23

Sorry 111.

Although who says this is not a crime?

BlackPrism · 07/05/2019 18:23

Was it open? Shot gets mould my when open. I wouldn't be kissing your DP ever again though
