My hearing is going and has been slowly getting worse past few years. I just tried to run a bath and something is wrong with the boiler. DH was trying to fix it and then suddenly started shouting. I shouted back to repeat what he’d said as I couldn’t hear him. He shouted again and so I shouted back that I couldn’t hear him. He then shouted “shut up! I’m not talking to you!”

So turns out he was shouting at the dog but I didn’t know that!! Now I’m mad at him for telling me to shut up, he’s mad at me for calling him a bossy purple and he says I was making the dog misbehave by shouting!!! I was in the bathroom, nowhere near the dog.

AIBU to think he didn’t need to get mad over a mishearing?

What would he do if you just called he boiler man anyway? I would... if he complains cite the above reasons and say you thought he was too busy so you thought you'd ease his workload.

Well I don’t know about OP but this thread is inspiring me to call about my own stupid boiler problem.

Why do people start threads over every small disagreement they have with their DH? I mean, it's not looking for advice is it?

Make it a rule that you don't shout from room to room, you go and find the person. Unless it's an emergency, in which case you shout their name. Misunderstanding averted.

Unless he is a properly qualified plumber and really knows what he is doing then he shouldn't be fiddling with the boiler (I am supposing it is oil or gas fired). How long since it was last serviced or given a safety inspection? They should really be done annually.

Why are you both shouting all the time? Is that how you talk to each other, by yelling from different rooms? I hope you live in a big detached house as otherwise I pity your poor neighbours.

Get your hearing checked out and stop yelling at each other (or the poor dog).

it's not good to diy fix a gas boiler , i believe you have to be registered with the gas safe authority and be competant.

Good grief, just get a heating engineer in, its not difficult, what on earth do you mean 'he wont let you', what century are we in.... And dont shout at dogs btw, it doesnt help as they dont get shouting, its not how they would operate in the wild!
