Anyone want to play a game? I was just reading an article with this picture and realised I know exactly where this is.

It has a massive clue in the picture, which anyone who knows this part of London will recognise immediately.

Can anyone say where this is?

Or do you have one to share?

I’d need to walk about 500 miles from where I live to get to that statue of commandos Sausage

Well done, all who got one or more of the 'four extremities' places. We set ourselves a challenge to visit them within a 12-month period and just about managed it in 2007-2008!

No offence to any MNers in Suffolk, but the easternmost one was definitely the clear third runner-up when it came to sheer thrill and beauty! Handy if you like frozen breaded cod-based products, mind....

Two quirky local features for the price of one, here in the centre of a beautiful village.

This village's name is considered the most misspelled in the country, having had nearly 50 different spellings recorded! It's somewhere in Britain, so if you're a Pommy, you might just know it.

My first thought was Stamford Hill and I haven’t lived in the UK in 7 years! I used to live in Stoke Newington though!

Thesunrising · 05/05/2019 04:26

Gosh - I recognised that photo instantly. I used to get off that bus stop to change buses from getting to Stoke Newington to my job at the cinema on Seven Sisters Road. This was at least 20 years ago and I haven’t lived in London for 15 years. It wasn’t a NETTO then I don’t think, but perhaps a Safeway?

MajesticWhine · 05/05/2019 04:32

Webuilt - it is Youlgrave. I have never been there - had to do some research Smile

Beanosaurus · 05/05/2019 04:33

@Stroller15 & @BestIsWest - correct!

WhatchaMaCalllit · 05/05/2019 08:33

@Beanosaurus - spot on!

Anyone care to hazard a guess at the other picture I posted?

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 05/05/2019 12:08

Well done, MajesticWhine - it is indeed Youlgrave/Youlgreave etc (known as Pommy to the locals - no idea why, though).

I believe a local women's co-operative back in around 1829 was responsible for setting up the water tower and connected infrastructure for ensuring fresh water supply to the village. It's still in use today, but supplemented by the mains company (Severn Trent) as the growing population meant that it couldn't eventually supply everybody's needs.

Behind it is Thimble Hall, claimed to be the smallest detached house in Britain and originally home to 8 people.

Weedsnseeds1 · 06/05/2019 08:01

That looks like the top of Cheddar Gorge, majestic

MajesticWhine · 06/05/2019 08:22

Correct it is cheddar gorge. Well done.
I have no clue about the others. Did anyone get the castle one ?

Weedsnseeds1 · 06/05/2019 08:54

The one looking through the window at the estuary? Might be Dartmouth?

Weedsnseeds1 · 06/05/2019 09:05

How about this one?

Weedsnseeds1 · 06/05/2019 09:09

Stained glass is Rhossili

waltersdog · 06/05/2019 09:14

The one at the estuary isn't Dartmouth - clue: it's in Wales

BigRedBoat · 06/05/2019 09:28

Guavaf1sh · 06/05/2019 09:29

Caernarfon Castle?

waltersdog · 06/05/2019 09:35

Yes it's Caernarfon !

BestIsWest · 06/05/2019 09:55

Well done Weedsandseeds. The stained glass is a memorial to Edgar Evans who perished with Captain Scott trying to reach the South Pole. It’s in St Mary’s Church, Rhossili.

That's Whitby.

RedForShort · 06/05/2019 10:07

Only one I know so far is Oscar Wilde statute - NW corner in Merrion Square, Dublin.
