To do this in a hotel?

I stayed at a hotel last night for a birthday weekend away for a friend, there were 14 of us in total. At breakfast after checking out, my DH mentioned to the group that I had tidied the room before leaving (put used towels in the bath, tidied the toiletries on the side and threw all rubbish away and tied up the bag) then stripped the bed. 12 out of the 14 friends think this is crazy and that it's the maids job. I understand where they're coming from but I had ten minutes spare so thought I'd make their job a little easier. They still think I'm barmy.

Who is BU here? I'm getting quite a lot of stick for something I didn't think was that much of a big deal!

Drogosnextwife - bin not bed!

Laodamia · 04/05/2019 14:06

I tidy up but I don't strip the bed. Stripping the bed is weird.

wowfudge · 04/05/2019 14:11

You don't take your plates into the kitchen or do the washing up in a restaurant, stripping the bed in a hotel is the equivalent.

Youtoldme · 04/05/2019 14:13

I do the same as you except for stripping bed

Preggo82 · 06/05/2019 19:07

I strip the bed so the sheets aren't reused for the next person. I've worked in hotels where this was the norm Shock.

Stripping the beds is a nice idea in theory.....however it is true that housekeepers will be wary of what lies beneath......!!!

I’ve been a chamber maid. I put rubbish in the bin and tidy hotel stuff eg. Room service menu back into correct location.

I don’t strip the bed and I would either leave towels in the bath or drying over the back of a chair. It try to make it clear which towels have been used and which haven’t.

Stripped sheets would make me think accident of some sort.

HomeMadeMadness · 06/05/2019 19:37

I don't tend to strip the bed but I wouldn't leave rubbish lying around (to be fair I'd have thrown it away in the first place without needing to do a final tidy). I tend to leave towels together in one spot and put used toiletries in one spot too.

Where I work we have to separate pillow cases, sheets and quilt covers so I hate it when people strip the bed cause I have to go digging to find everything. Leave it to me please I have my routine and you’ve ruined.

I do however love guests that are tidy and put towels in shower/bath, don’t leave crap lying around I have 22 minutes to clean a room I don’t want to waste that time putting all the guests rubbish in the bin cause they can’t be bothered

DharmaInitiativeLady · 06/05/2019 22:17

I do the same because my mother taught me not to be self entitled. The hotel maid will massively appreciate it, OP

'The hotel maid will massively appreciate it, OP'

Did you read the post above yours? Yes tidy, and separate the used towels from the unused but stripping the bed is unnecessary.

chickenfajitas73 · 06/05/2019 22:26

I work in a hotel - you should see the state some rooms are left in ! So people who leave them tidy are very much appreciated, although I have to agree with a pp, if a guest strips a bed we do assume they’ve had an accident or spilt something etc.

StealthPolarBear · 07/05/2019 06:25

Actually I've just realised I often don't put the rubbish in the bin Shock.
They tie the bags so tightly in the bins and so near the top there's usuallt no space in the bin. I leave everything neatly together, in a bag if I have one
