To think that 2 weeks later is too late to call me to say they'll look at CCTV?

I was a victim of assault 2 weeks ago.
Just now, I get a call asking what happened, despite reporting it immediately, speaking to officers a day later and having heard nothing since. Now they're going to look at CCTV apparently. It's a bit blooming late!

Not that I have much hope in police investigation, but it's a bit late. I've already accepted that this is what men do and this is what they get away with. So don't bloody ring me up 2 weeks later!

Let them off I suppose. So annoying.

And nobody cares. Sad

Where is the CCTV from? It could very well still be around if it’s a business. It’s shit it’s taken so long, a sign of the times with understaffed police forces sadly.
I hope you are ok and getting some support OP Flowers

AuldJosey · 03/05/2019 23:42

Hospital grounds.

I've no idea if they even have CCTV on the area - and certainly not two weeks later!

God, that's awful. I'm so sorry. And it's shit that they haven't even followed it up til now.

enjoyingscience · 03/05/2019 23:44

I’m so sorry that happened to you. Flowers

Yes, it is shitty that it’s taken so long, I bet you were just starting to get back to normality a bit too, it must feel horrible.

I hope they do find whoever did it. Have you spoken to victim support or similar? I’ve not hadn’t to use them myself, so not sure if they are well prepared to help assault victims, but talking to someone might be helpful.

Passthecherrycoke · 03/05/2019 23:44

I’m sure it’s not too late, they’ll still have the cctv. I’m sorry to hear about your assault, it must’ve been the worst thing Flowers

Cottonwoolmouth · 03/05/2019 23:46

AuldJosey I hope your ok love.

It might take a stupid amount of time to follow protocol, change of shifts, paper work m, Stick with it. Your amazing for even reporting it.

Not all men are like this.

Bluestringsoup01 · 03/05/2019 23:47

I'm really sorry you went through that! I hope they sort it for you soon, and properly. As someone that deals with some CCTV at work there are a few hoops to jump through to obtain it. Although they should have definitely given you a call to update you!

OwlBeThere · 03/05/2019 23:48

Almost everywhere has CCTV these days especially public buildings. I know it’s hard to think positively in these situations though.

AuldJosey · 03/05/2019 23:49

If they can get the CCTV it will prove the assault unequivocally, but if they've recorded over the tapes, then it's a high road to nowhere. I don't know how long they hold tapes for. As it's a hospital, do they just ask?

OP posts:
Lucked · 03/05/2019 23:51

Yes I would be disappointed and I imagine the hospital would be too, it can’t fill the staff with confidence in their safety when leaving work at all times of the day and night if the police don’t prioritise it.

I hope there is CCTV but in a lot of places it just covers the entrances and not the car parks and grounds.

I am sorry you were attacked and hope you are okay.

Bluestringsoup01 · 03/05/2019 23:53

Places should keep it for at least 31 days. I'm not sure how the NHS work but once the police put in for the cctv it can take a couple of days to process and get it off.

Stovetop · 03/05/2019 23:55

I hope it's not to late. And maybe it won't be. We trust that as professionals they are following proper procedures and were aware of timeframes regarding cctv from the moment you made the report.

But I do think the communication with you was very very poor. And that is inexcusable.

These are pics of the bruising

Ah sweetheart. What an awful experience, I have some idea of how you might be feeling and I’m sure your emotions are all over. Good for you reporting it, it may feel a little futile at the moment but don’t give up hope.
Do you know the person who assaulted you? Xx

AuldJosey · 04/05/2019 00:00

They're from the front and back of my right arm.

OP posts:
AuldJosey · 04/05/2019 00:05

No, the perpetrator isn't known to me. If the police came out at the time, they would have found him, but I think because I tried to be quite calm and matter of fact on the phone they didn't take me seriously. The bruising was quite mild the next day when the police came, and it only really went all sorts of colours over the next couple of days. I think I'm just so used to never getting justice (never once has anyone been prosecuted for anything they've done to me), that I'm sort of conditioned to just try to forget about things. Not much point caring really is there!

Cottonwoolmouth · 04/05/2019 00:05

That looks sore Flowers

I can see them keeping the tapes for quite awhile especially in a hospital. Police do move slowly when gathering evidence.

Don’t give up x

AuldJosey · 04/05/2019 00:07

Ye it was sore for a week, but it's fine now. I suppose I should be grateful!

OP posts:
crocsaretoocoolforschool · 04/05/2019 00:14

CCTV systems that use tapes are generally kept for a month -places rotate the dates so the 1st will get wiped on the 1st

Most cctv is hard drive stored now so tends to be for longer than 30 days

I hope they do have coverage of the area

Thank you for reporting it, it must have been very difficult -it's important to speak out

AuldJosey · 04/05/2019 00:16

Not much bloody point is there? Nothing is ever done. I've given up reporting crimes against me in London now! It's just accepted that police ain't going to investigate, nobody gives a fuck and if they do investigate, they won't prosecute......... Pointless exercise.

OP posts:
AuldJosey · 04/05/2019 00:18

They investigate when you're dead. That's it.

OP posts:
AuldJosey · 04/05/2019 00:20

They're not even putting out fires. They're investigating AFTER the fact.
