Am I wrong to wonder what on earth is going on with these people with their bits out? I’m on holiday and they’re walking around bold as brass with their parts on display. I wasn’t expecting this when I went to the beach. There don’t seem to be any rules that say it isn’t OK. I asked a lady in one of the beachside shops.
Fully expecting to be shouted at here by the way Smile Long time Mumsnetter but can’t for the life of me find my old login details.

No tan lines is a win. It's only bodies, I'd love to be brave enough. Or live somewhere warm enough

purpleleotard · 30/04/2019 17:13

Not Torquay surely.

pinkyredrose · 30/04/2019 17:13

Where are you? Asking for a friend.

Bluntness100 · 30/04/2019 17:14

I find it a bit odd too if I'm honest. 🤣

Greeborising · 30/04/2019 17:16

I’m all for personal freedom and agree with there being designated beaches etc.
But, personally, I don’t particularly want to have wrinkly family jewels dangling in my peripheral vision when I’m trying to relax

Sparklesocks · 30/04/2019 17:16

You must be at a nudist beach?
I’m not arsed either way, I don’t feel the need to get my bits out but I don’t really care that others do.
From what I understand naturist beaches are normally a bit off the beaten track, or is it just one group of people on a normal beach?

3luckystars · 30/04/2019 17:18

Two nudists sitting on a beach, one says, 'have you read Marx?'
And the other says 'yes. Its probably from the wicker chairs'

BarbadosBrenda · 30/04/2019 17:19

I'm with you op, no idea what on earth possesses people. A bikini or trunks are hardly that stifling surely.

WhaleMusic · 30/04/2019 17:20

Sorry I should have said I’m in Fuerteventura. This isn’t a nudist beach but it turns out it is something called ‘clothing optional’ so many have costumes on and quite a few are dangling hither and yon. Don’t get me wrong they’re not all old people so some of the views aren’t hideous I’ve just never seen anything like this before.

Doesn't bother me really, but when walking through Studland last year with the kids what DID bother me was all the lone men, just standing in the sand dunes, looking out to see. It was just bloody creepy. The couples on the beach, reading their Sunday newspaper, fine but the men, I found a bit odd, just posing and posturing. I was also uncomfortable with families that had kids verging in teens running around naked. I realise maybe that says more about me, but it just didn't sit comfortably with me.

cliquewhyohwhy · 30/04/2019 17:21

I love being naked and wish I had the guts to go bare at a nudist place or beach lol.

Sparklesocks · 30/04/2019 17:22

I’ve seen tits out on the canaries but never the danglies! What a treat Grin

JaneEyre07 · 30/04/2019 17:24

We encountered a nudist beach by accident on holiday in Spain once.

Our DDs were beyond delighted, and giggled for days about it.

Not one person was under 70, and frankly I'm still traumatised by some of the sights nearly 10 years later.

WhaleMusic · 30/04/2019 17:24

Sparklesocks Tits and canaries? Were you at an aviary? Smile

Beach etc is fine, whatever. What I don't understand is enforced nudity. My parents go to naturist campsites and there are places you are not permitted to wear clothes, tis odd. They went on a winter holiday and were all bundled up outside then naked round the table for dinner, I don't get it! We did a winter holiday too and yes we stripped to base layers inside and went naked in the sauna but naked dining does not appeal.

FuzzyPuffling · 30/04/2019 17:25

What an ageist and unpleasant comment. So it would be more acceptable if everyone was conventionally beautiful...and YOUNG?

JaneDoe8000 · 30/04/2019 17:30

Some people like it. You only need to worry about it when you're forced into it. Until then, you carry on not doing whilst other people carry on doing it. Dead easy.

JaneDoe8000 · 30/04/2019 17:32

It's not odd - especially not on a naturist campsite. It's to stop clothed nosey people and perverts just rocking up for a look.

TheStakeIsNotThePower · 30/04/2019 17:35

Well there aren't any random clothed people at their members only club.

tisonlymeagain · 30/04/2019 17:37

I knew someone would jump on the "old" comment.

Fact is, most people on nudists beaches are of a certain age, and maybe it's ageist but if I've got to be presented with someone's danglies I'd rather it not be an Octogenarian's wrinkly scrotum. Until I am an Octogenarian myself.

SirGawain · 30/04/2019 17:40

Doesn't bother me really, but when walking through Studland last year ....
I've walked Studland beach many times and never seen a naked person; despite signs saying that nudity is permitted. Grin

WhaleMusic · 30/04/2019 17:40

Sorry if I offended anyone with the ‘old’ comment, it was meant to convey that it’s the whole naked thing rather than age related that I’m confused by. I can see how that was misconstrued, so sorry again Smile

DontCallMeShitley · 30/04/2019 17:40

Don't go to France then. You see people nude along with ones that are clothed or partially clothed.

It is accepted in some countries and there are others where some beaches permit it and others have a patrol to force people to fasten their bikini tops, even though they are laying on their front and nothing is showing, all in the same country.

I think these days it is a good idea to try to find out before you choose a resort as you never know what you will find.

Personally it doesn't bother me unless there is odd behaviour, it is the etiquette not to look at the bits that are usually covered if you find yourself in a naturist or optional area, usually can spot the true naturists as they walk about with a towel to sit on.

Gertie75 · 30/04/2019 17:40

I can imagine it feels nice to have the wind on your skin but do wonder if people ever feel totally relaxed.

What about periods, do they tuck the tampon string away? What do men do if they get an erection? Is there an etiquette to bending over? Do they feel comfortable sitting on a chair that's previously been occupied by a bare arse?

BarbadosBrenda · 30/04/2019 17:42

But why do people enjoy doing it? What is wrong with a swimming costume. It's just gross imo, I've no desire to see naked strangers.

There must be a perv/flashing element to it I reckon Grin
