DS1 has various complex disabilities after being born 16 weeks prematurely. He is quite severely autistic, although verbal, and attends a special school where he's a weekly boarder. He's 13 years old.
I've just waved him off in his taxi for his week at school. He was half way out of the door when he muttered to me "Bye, I love you!" I am speechless and a little bit tearful.....he finds it so hard to articulate his feelings that he has never, ever said that before.
DS1 loves me! I never knew how special those words would be to finally hear!
