@ MrsTerrypratchett That’s boring... you know I actually do not really believe in ghosts, curses or haunted buildings... but I think they are interesting (or sad in some cases of course, depending on the backstory)... but I think that all what was explained by this in the past can be explained by science. Still I like hearing that kind of stories.

I think the story of Poveglia is cool and very sad.

The curse of rationality... yes in a way that IS a curse. I envy people who have such a strong believe in God that they never question their beliefs. I think it is enviable.
(I am Christian, sometimes more, sometimes less).

It was a plague island off Venice. Fishermen still won't go there for fear of the cursed souls. Since no one else would go there, they decided to build a mental hospital there and the patients were driven mad by the ghosts of the plague victims. Even now, people that buy it cannot stay, they hear the screams and the bell toiling for the dead.

Bones still wash up on the shore and the soil cannot grow grapes any more, it is so polluted by the bodies.

They carried the afflicted to the islands in boats along with any dead to contain infection. Imagine being on one of those boats to Poveglia accompanied by the plague doctors with those horrendous masks - that's more haunting and terrible than any ghosty.

Yes. In former times people where not treated well. Actually in the country in was born in they were not treated well in that time was born (not a democratic in that time, but now it is).

I am eternally condemned to feel obliged to read these gormless posts on the supernatural and any other woo bollocks (of which there is an amazing amount on these boards) then to get annoyed by the gullibility and lack of critical thought exhibited by the op.

The other night I was having a dream...and it was cut short as I was woken up by a whisper saying "You are not alone..." The voice was loud and clear in my ears....freaked the hell out of me....as last year I lost 2 friends and my df....so I was already scared at night. Not sure why! But same thing when I lost my grandma.....I could not sleep with out a night light etc for a while after.

My sister was cursed by someone claiming to be a witch. I never believe in this sort of thing but my sister, despite being a total sweetheart who should have excellent karma, has had the most extraordinary run of bad luck ever since (must be 6/7 years)

I have met several people who say they have met their dead loved ones in their dreams but maybe it is just because it is the thing they wished for most.

I know a family that I've wondered if they were cursed. Over the span of two decades a child was murdered by a paedophile, another family member murdered their psychiatrist (AFTER being locked up in a psychiatric prison), another family member killed their mother's boyfriend, and a fourth member's girlfriend was murdered. All entirely unrelated incidents. Then there is the odd (and very creepy) behaviour of other members, marriages breaking down because of concerning behaviour, family members going into hiding, etc.

DF has seen the ghost of a girl throwing herself from Rochester Castle. He's not the only one... there were many peoole around who also saw her. Nothing there on the ground though when they ran to see if she was ok (was training as a paramedic at the time). He's also been stabbed by a poltergeist as he went to get the cutlery out for dinner (he doesn't drink so can't blame alcohol) and has also been suffocated by the sofa, as though someone was pulling him into it. His mum had to pull him off once she realised what was happening.

I've not yet seen ghosts but 100% believe in them but I have dreamt about my best friend who died. The last time I saw him he was shocked and told me I shouldn't be seeing him and that it would be the last time. I've felt so calm since then, compared to before when I missed him loads. Whether I see him again is another matter. I do t tend to dream abo things that have been going on but definitely have an overactive imagination.

Or disfunctional and troubled people make bad chouves about friends amd partners and go on to raise children who end up fisfunctional and unhappy themselves.
