To leave a 2 year old for 10 mins

2 year old asleep in a cot they can't get out of. Needed to pop to the shops. 10 minutes away if that, child asleep the whole time, doors locked etc. Friend is horrified. WIBU?

You've completely misinterpreted that sofa. I was actually trying to establish an answer to the disconnect between hany (quite rightly imo) posting that children shouldn't be left alone/hany agreeing with a nasty post about other posters being away doing the school pick up/hany posting that she had school age DC and hany also posting regularly over the time period that school pick up would be done. Hany (eventually) replied (not that she was obliged to) that her other half was doing the pick up. disconnect resolved, no judgement given. I'm not the person implying that I'm a better parent than everyone else on the thread.

I genuinely didn't mean for this thread to be "goady". It was late, I was at work, I didn't think much beyond "oh, me and friend have different views, I wonder what other people think"

hany there are hundreds of topics on here that don't require you to be a mother to comment on. This site isn't exactly secret, a quick Google search on various topics leads here, lots of them not child related. Parents are also people.

Also, not that it matters, but I have Godchildren and a young Niece and am a healthcare professional so I do sometimes take an interest in children.

Nope still no implication that you were a crap mum for having a break, more jealousy that you got time off from doing it. I'm presuming (correct me if i'm wrong) that some of your 4 must be under school age and that you probably had them at home while your other half was doing pick up. And before you make out that I'm against you becasue you have 4, I'm one of 7 and DH is one of 6. i have no issue with large families.

I actually have a recurring nightmare that I leave my LG asleep in her cot and forget about her and go out and then I remember and can't get back to her! It's awful!! Never in a million years would I leave her. Imagine if you went to the shops but something happened to you? You got delayed, mugged, anything could happen to you whilst your out that could delay you and in the meantime anything could happen to your LO, your house could set on fire! I know these are all very extreme things to happen but they could and it isn't worth the risk.
