To leave a 2 year old for 10 mins

2 year old asleep in a cot they can't get out of. Needed to pop to the shops. 10 minutes away if that, child asleep the whole time, doors locked etc. Friend is horrified. WIBU?

Please don't do this.

A lot can happen in 10 mins, it just isn't worth it.....

PrimeraVez · 27/04/2019 03:38

Absolutely not. And I consider myself to be a pretty relaxed parent.

Willowkins · 27/04/2019 03:38

2 is too young to leave alone. If they choked, you could be too late to save them; if anything happened to the house (eg fire) they would be defenceless; plus what if something happened to you (eg accident), it could be a lot more than 10 mins.

roundligament · 27/04/2019 03:38

What do you need from the shop at twenty to four

Don't leave them that's terrible

AmyFl · 27/04/2019 03:42

It would be fine. If they're in a cot they're safe.

TimeForDinnerDinnerDinner · 27/04/2019 03:44

YABVU

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 27/04/2019 03:49

Yes you could go and there could be no consequences. However is it worth the huge risk. You say She's 2, so she must at least attempt to climb out if her cot. Supposing she falls awkwardly. Supposing a fire breaks out. Supposing there's a burglary.
If something did happen youd never ever forgive yourself. Like I said the risk isnt worth it.

julensaor · 27/04/2019 04:04

no, don't do that. You have to do a risk assessment. A fire, a burglary, a gas leak, a break-in, you being knocked down by a car, something happens you whilst out, no-one can identify you for a couple of days and she is alone, you just can't do that OP.

Yes YABU to leave a completely defenceless child alone.

Howridiculous1 · 27/04/2019 04:11

It's not just the baby though, what if something happened to you while you were out. Your child's souls be alone and no one would know

LiliesAndChocolate · 27/04/2019 04:15

What if you are hit by a car on your way there

Shazafied · 27/04/2019 04:16

No way ! You cannot leave a two year old alone in the house.

TheMsMurphy · 27/04/2019 04:22

It sounds like you’ve already done it?
Yes, YWBU! You couldn’t possibly know your child would be asleep while you were gone, even if it was only 10 minutes.

JocastaElastic · 27/04/2019 04:26

No. Definitely do not leave your two year old alone while you pop to the shops.

flumpybear · 27/04/2019 04:33

Stupidity! Anything could happen. Plus why not wait til she wakes up And take her too - help to tire her for next sleep!

EmmaGrundyForPM · 27/04/2019 04:34

Absolutely not acceptable. What do you need from the shop? Surely it can wait until your child is awake and can go with you?

araiwa · 27/04/2019 04:42

Why would you do that?

RainbowWaffles · 27/04/2019 04:46

Yes, I am also horrified!!! A lot can happen in 10 minutes, you could be held up and it be longer. She could wake up upset the moment you left which would be pretty shitty but she could also vomit and choke in that time.

Smotheroffive · 27/04/2019 04:55

You have a decent friend and she's rightly horrified. I'm horrified too that anyone would consider this. I read the title and thought it must be a joke.

It's not about go out because it might be alright, you don't go out because it might not be! Don't think either that it will be be ok a year down the line or even two or three.

What could have possibly been so desperate that you even consider this?

You need to be very sure you don't repeat this and be ready for a visit from social services as anyone could have seen you leave the house.

If this is a reverse and you're the friend, report her arse.

PregnantSea · 27/04/2019 05:00

Don't do this. What if something unexpected happens and you're gone longer than ten minutes?

Very unsafe

lboogy · 27/04/2019 05:02

There is no item in the world that you need to badly that would be worth risking your baby's safety.

IncrediblySadToo · 27/04/2019 05:02

Did you go?

Merrymumoftwo · 27/04/2019 05:08

When making the decision to leave a child alone you have to ask yourself
Could they ask or call for help if needed?
Would they know what to do in an emergency (fire/break in)?
If it was longer than expected do they have the ability to care for themselves?
If the answer to these is no. I’m sorry it’s neglect to leave them alone.

EmeraldShamrock · 27/04/2019 05:15

Never a good idea, imagine you got knocked down and lost conscious.
