Driving home from shopping. Small bird flies into my windscreen. Makes loud bang, no damage to windscreen, don’t see what happens to bird. All windows closed on car. Get home, open boot to get shopping out, and dead bird is sitting on top of it. How?

Chuck washing in tumble drier, works for a bit, then says filter needs checking (the one under the flap at the front of the machine, where you have to pull out a drawer filled with hair and wet fluff). Pull out drawer thing, remove hair and fluff and find sock in the filter. How does it get there?

It gets weirder. Empty dishwasher that has finished, and the other sock in the pair has been stuffed into the cutlery basket. Only me in house all week, kids and DH away. And obviously I wouldn’t put a sock in the dishwasher. There were lots of socks in the wash, so how come only this pair made a bid for freedom?

Thus is weird no answers but I hope you get one. I would suggest calling in to Simon Mayo on radio 2 "ask the expert" but its finished now

CalmdownJanet · 25/04/2019 23:29

Am the only one who was reading the start of the second paragraph thinking "how the fuck did the bird get in the tumble dryer" ? Just me? That would have been very weird!

ZippyBungleandGeorge · 25/04/2019 23:29

I really thought you were going to find a dead bird in either the drier or dishwasher, bit underwhelmed it was just fluff and socks

MrsSchadenfreude · 25/04/2019 23:30

Bird definitely not in tumble drier!

Drogosnextwife · 25/04/2019 23:31

CalmdownJanet

That is exactly what I thought was coming too 😂

MrsSchadenfreude · 25/04/2019 23:38

Sorry! I just found it weird that one of the socks would get into the filter and the other into the dishwasher. Bird in tumble drier would have been more freaky, I agree.

The ghost of the bird messed with the socks to punish you, obvs Grin

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 25/04/2019 23:46

I was expecting the bird in the tumble dryer too! Grin

thenightsky · 25/04/2019 23:46

You're alone in the house all week? Get out, get out now Shock

bebeboeuf · 25/04/2019 23:51

Did the bird survive? Was it sat on your boot lid alive?

pintsizedblondie · 25/04/2019 23:52

I thought the bird was going to be in the tumble dryer too. That literally made me laugh out loud!

MrsSchadenfreude · 25/04/2019 23:53

Bird was dead and went in bin.

gilchrist168 · 25/04/2019 23:56

When you say" bird", do you mean the feathered variety? Or...
Are we talking EastEnders type murder. where the otherwise loveable domestic white goods engineer tries to dispose of the body and evidence, after an unfortunate incident down the Old Kent Road?

gilchrist168 · 25/04/2019 23:57

apols for random full stop above...it wasn't me guv...

MrsEricBana · 25/04/2019 23:58

Whaaaaaat? That's a bit too spooky for me.

Smellyoulateralligator · 25/04/2019 23:59

I thought it would be in the dryer too 😔 and feel a bit cheated now

TooTrueToBeGood · 26/04/2019 00:00

Bird was dead and went in bin.

But which bin - the green, brown, purple, beige or tartan one? That's the biggest mystery of all.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 26/04/2019 00:08

Socks are sneaky bastards, always escaping out of the laundry basket as you are carrying it down and often tucking themselves into the clothes that you are wearing. Which is possibly how that sock make it into the dishwasher, it detached itself from your clothing and fell in just before you turned the dishwasher on. It didn't necessarily fall into the cutlery thing, it probably got flung around the dishwasher a bit first and ended up in there.

Don't know about the bird, that's weird. Are you absolutely sure it was the same bird? Perhaps a bird dropped dead of natural causes and fell into your boot and then its grief-stricken mate threw itself at your windscreen.

MrsSchadenfreude · 26/04/2019 00:08

The brown one. It wasn’t, I felt, recyclable or garden rubbish,

whyamievenamazeddotcom · 26/04/2019 00:13

I can sort of get the sock in the dishwasher as I often find glasses tv remote purse etc in random places such as freezer, oven, etc once spent hour looking for glasses only to find on my head (yes I patted my head) sign of a pre occupied mind or doing too much at once

The sock could possibly have slipped through the rim of the tumble and rubber and journeyed to the filter drawer?

The bird is very random though have you got one of those jet hole aerodynamic thingies on your car roof and you hit the bird and it slipped in the jet thing like an air hockey puck (poor thing) but that happening is like a zillion to one chance ! I’d assess the size of the jet hole thing and estimate if the bird could have got through it and dropped in the boot...

Other than that no idea

LavaLampLover · 26/04/2019 02:46

It was me. I put the sock in the cutlery compartment.

I'm joking, that would be weird. It was definitely the bird.

mokapot · 26/04/2019 02:51

I don’t understand

Where was the bird? Inside the boot , in a shopping bag? On top of boot lid? Because if it was the lid, then it would have ricocheted off the top of the car and onto the boot top ..aerodynamic air flow etc

But are you saying it was in the actual boot? Like inside a shopping bag?

Bantameggs · 26/04/2019 02:59

This sounds like the beginning of a horror film

HennyPennyHorror · 26/04/2019 02:59

The bird that hit the windscreen was not the same bird that you found in the boot.

HennyPennyHorror · 26/04/2019 03:00

Or should that be "which you found in the boot"? Pedants, let me know.
