Hate is a pretty strong emotion for grammatical errors.

Have a

ForalltheSaints · 23/04/2019 20:29

Not the only grammatical error in common parlance. Different from some of the others though, not different to.

wotsittoyou · 23/04/2019 20:29

Dear me, you need to rain (Grin) yourself in a bit.

AlaskanOilBaron · 23/04/2019 20:29

I don't often hear this one.

Aquamarine1029 · 23/04/2019 20:30

You HATE them? Really?

JasperSIn · 23/04/2019 20:30

I agree OP. This Pacific example pisses me right of 😉

Oysterbabe · 23/04/2019 20:30

Yabu.

JasperSIn · 23/04/2019 20:30

You could borrow them a grammer book?

AlaskanOilBaron · 23/04/2019 20:30

Dear me, you need to rain (grin) yourself in a bit.

Behave.

mumofanoxonian · 23/04/2019 20:33

Oh no.... my brain are hurting Grin

OP posts:
JasperSIn · 23/04/2019 20:33

Mate I’ve just spotted your username Grin

Time was you’d have been gutted like a fish having a username like that. Old cod would have had you with the pramhuns and the baby modellers Wink

PillowTalker · 23/04/2019 20:33

You should learn them proper

plum100 · 23/04/2019 20:36

A bit strong . But I particularly dislike would of, could of instead of would have, could have but I think one day that will be the lingo

BringMeTea · 23/04/2019 20:36

Hate are a very strong word OP.

PocaMiseria · 23/04/2019 20:38

OK, you tell me: his whereabouts are unknown or his whereabouts is unknown??
Saw one in a newspaper and thought it sounded strange

Rarotonga · 23/04/2019 20:46

Hmm This kind of thread really gets on my wick.

KissingInTheRain · 23/04/2019 20:48

Harsh sentiment OP, but I’m broadly with you.

Number v quantity is the usual guide.

Money’s difficult though: “I have £10 less than her”, or “I have £10 fewer than her”?

TixieLix · 23/04/2019 20:50

The ones I see more frequently are 'was' and 'were' eg "we was in the queue..."

and 'a' instead of 'an' before a vowel eg "I saw a elephant"

Inside I groan, but I realise the poster may have dyslexia or something, or could be struggling to write on a smartphone. Life's too short to give it head space. I certainly don't hate people, we all make mistakes occasionally.

TixieLix · 23/04/2019 20:52

@Poca Miseria, I'd say his whereabouts are unknown as whereabouts is plural. If the word had been location (singular) however, it would be his location is unknown.

wowfudge · 23/04/2019 20:54

Some of these kinds of things are dialect. Just because people say them doesn't mean they don't know how to write them/what the grammatical rules are.

ThatssomebadhatHarry · 23/04/2019 20:56

They should of gone to school. That one over their. (Op’s Head explodes)

TarragonSauce · 23/04/2019 20:57

DH and I sat on the sofa to partake in a little culture earlier and the tv announcer said 'where is Louise and Keanu?' just before the cultural extravaganza began.
DH and I were, like, 😳

echt · 23/04/2019 21:02

The "is/are" error is well-lodged in everyday use. Unfortunately. Don't feel hate but am sad it's leaked into newsbroadcasts

I blame the jeans advert: "There's rivets, and there's Levi's rivets." I used to sneer, "There are rivets, ya moron!"

It was the first time I'd seen sub-literate stuff, in writing yet, on the TV.

Here it is:

Likethebattle · 23/04/2019 22:10

I worked with someone who would say ‘remember me to do that?’ If you forgot she’s say ‘toy were meant to remember me!’ Aaaargh ‘remind!’

EdWinchester · 23/04/2019 22:13

I have a lovely friend who says 'was you...' Confused

She now has 3 children who do the same.

I don't hate her though.
