To think some people have breath that smells like dog shit?

I was just discussing this with my husband.

Over the last fortnight, I have come across 3 people with breath so foul it smells like dog shit, or in the case of one of them - cow shit.

Can they not smell it themselves? And what is it that gives people halitosis that doesn’t just smell like stale breath, but actual shit? Is it the smell of their stomachs? I know it’s not teeth hygiene for one of them as she brushes her teeth about 6 times a day. Why don’t their families mention it? If it was one of mine, I would tell them straight away & I know they’d do the same for me.

Is it a medical condition, this breath from the abattoir? Anyone know?

Not flossing certainly plays a role. If you are not a regular flosser, get some and try it. You will be shocked at the smell. Once you've flossed for a week or so regularly it will stop stinking.

There are obviously lots of other causes, but that's one of the easiest to sort out.

A lot of different medications can cause bad breath and also awful teeth. Mumsnet threads are horrible when it comes to teeth.

I has a science teacher who smoked and lived on black coffee. I assumed it was the mix of those two things which gave her dog poo breath. But now I've been enlightened

Dehydration is a big one too. Drink plenty, ideally water.

I used to work for a bloke who was evil, his breath was pure dog shit, we used to have meetings round a huge conference table, I'd sit at the furthest possible position away from him and it still knocked me out.

Maybe what’s ‘mean’ is that we don’t take people aside and have a quiet word, but it would be mortifying for both sides if you are not close. I certainly could not have told the woman that served me in specsavers that her breath was faecal.

Pondering over the cause of fetid breath to a bunch of strangers is really not mean, ffs.

The amount of times sometimes on a daily basis that I am subjected to this foul stink .... so that many people have stomach ulcers and or other health issues etc ???? .... I don't think so.

Gum disease has a certain putrid smell & I too can smell it a couple of feet away.

A simple bit of daily flossing & cordosyl should fix it ... and yes those of you that don't floss - try it & smell the floss afterwards ... as you may well be the ones being shamed for the stomach churning shit breath stink 💩ConfusedBlushBiscuit

water flossing is also very good and effective, even more so if you use salt water

My dentist told me to get a water pic to floss between my 2 implants, I haven’t bought one yet (I use the brushes) as I’m scared it’ll be too cold.

What does Ketone breath smell like?
I was always having ketosis when I was very sick from hyperemesis but I've never had bad breath like I'm really funny about it
so what do ketones smell like people say they can smell them but one dr said to me he can smell ketones and I didn't have them and I was ketone +4 so he was wrong

When I ate meat if I didn't floss for a few days when I did the smell that was on the actual floss smelt of pure dog shit. Especially from my upper back teeth. Since going veggie I haven't noticed it.

However I know if I eat a lot of garlic/curry I still have a funky breath the following day.

I work with the general public and bad breath is still really common. In fact I'd say most people have bad breath rather than don't have it. It seems to be the one thing modern science still hasn't conquered in personal hygiene.

Air flossers / water piks are the least effective method to clean between teeth but a lot of dentists do recommend them for implants because they are gentle. Personally I would stick to brushes.
I don’t think this thread is mean. It’s not as if we calling people names. It’s a discussion About bad breathe as far as I have seen so far.
And thanks for picking up my spelling mistake up thread Blush. Not sure what’s worse, bad breath or bad spelling. Grin
