To send my 7 year old to school in unironed uniform?

I really struggle with laundry. I struggle so, so much and I don't know why. I end up just not having the time or being organised enough to put away or iron so my son often goes to primary school in a creased t-shirt. We're not talking slept in creases, just dried crinkled and needs a quick going over creases.

Apart from the creases, my son always goes to school in the correct and washed uniform (I once got up at 5 to hair drier his trousers because I'd forgotton to put a wash on until the night before and that was the only way they'd be dry in time) but ironing always gets the better of me.

We have very few things that need ironing but his school t-shirts do. I bought more expensive iron-free ones but they had the school logo on and got nicked. Strangely his supermarket own brand stuff always finds it's way home.

He's clean, looked after and engaged. We always go to parents evening etc.

Do you look down on parents like me?

I advocate minimal ironing, but wouldn’t send him to school with creased top (or wear one myself), not about others judging, it’s about being comfortable & presentable. In uniform, he also is representing the school.
Replace the easy care tops if u can afford to do so & label them with his name, class & your phone number.
Are you setting the machine to a slower spin (600-800), so they come out wetter and hanging up on coat hangers immediately? That makes a huge difference.
I spent bank holiday Monday sorting out my floor drobe, we do have to do these things sometimes, doesn’t mean ur not an adult!!
If your partner didn’t hang stuff properly, why didn’t u ask him to iron it or rewash the items?

I don't iron school uniform right now. He wears a polo shirt. I wash it and tumble dry it. Then I get it out whilst still warm - shake it out & fold for his drawers. Voila. Clean child who is not too wrinkled!!

I don't think I'd noticed if other children went to school 'un ironed', but I can't bring myself to do it. EVERYTHING is ironed in our house, including vests, pants, pjs.... I just can't bring myself not to. And there's no nicer feeling than getting out of the bath everynight and putting on nice, clean, ironed pjs (I have no life 😂).

Using a launderette can be helpful, especially to get big loads washed, dry towels, bedding etc. They also offer ‘service washes’ (where the clothes will be washed, dried and folded for you to collect) and ironing services also. If DH allows his clothes to build up over weeks, you could ask him to take them there instead??

I dont iron anything... but I always do my laundry.. not sure how you can forget to do it? You had to hairdryer your son's trousers for school.. does he not have more than 1 pair?

I’ve never ironed an item of school uniform and DS is in year 8.

I am fine with ironing - I used to iron for beer in my student days. Nah, op. Don't bother. When stuff come out of the wash, hang it up for a bit. Or fold it neatly. Or at least don't leave it scrunched in a pile too long.
Kid in an unironed top is fine. Hopefully it'll just get messy again with more important activities.

Oh yeah, try and have at least one spare.

I never iron. The way to less creases is a lower spin speed, the clothes come out a bit wetter but you’ll never need to iron. Also hang shirts on coat hangers and peg that to the line (or hang off the curtain rail)!

I don’t iron, use Comfort fabric softener and then dry on hangers.

I dry the uniform in a neat way and put in wardrobe neatly. It doesn't look creased and so I feel fine about not ironing any of it. My DCs wear polo shirts. When they go to Secondary and have to wear proper smart shirts, i'll get those non iron ones!

I used to like ironing, then I became a mother and decided nope. However, when my eldest started reception his pe shirts were so incredibly creased looking unless I ironed them. I now iron their pe shirts, school polo shirts and a few of their tshirts-but only the ones that once they're out the dryer are still too creased. Like everything else, I do ironing in a hurry.

YANBU. Life's too short to waste time ironing. I've never ironed a stitch of 10-year-old DS's clothing, or mine. DH irons his own work shirt every morning.

Crease-free fabrics incl school polo shirts look totally fine if shaken out and hung while damp. I never use a tumble drier either - for environmental reasons but also because it means having to iron.
