To think iPhones are too big?

Upgraded my iPhone 6 to iPhone XR without a whole lot of thought (I know, silly me) as it was the newest model and cheaper than the XS.

AIBU to think it's way too big? Almost impossible to use one handed (holding with both hands whilst typing this) and so much heavier. Don't enjoy using it at all now as I'm always worried about dropping it.

I've since googled and there are loads of articles which say they're too big for most women's hands. If only I'd know before i bought it!

Not really sure what the point of this thread was other than to moan! Very annoying and expensive mistake.

I think apple would be surprised at how big the market is for a fully featured mini-phone. lots of people would like something small enough for their pocket, and plenty of us have watches/airpods so we don't need as much from the phone screen anyway

I doubt there's too much Apples marketing department can learn from anyone. They're just not interested in pumping out cheap phones.

As an aside for anyone upgrading, the 6,7 and 8 are all the same size. So if you can afford it / get a good deal, go for the 8. The newer the model, the longer it will be supported for with updates. Means you can get more use out of it.
I’m torn. I always loved the smaller phones, but now I’m so used to the bigger screen I think I’d struggle going smaller again.

MooBaaLaLaLa · 23/04/2019 15:49

I'm still on the iPhone 5 and reluctant to upgrade as I don't want a bigger phone, it's hard enough to fit this one in a lot of pockets.

I have a dying SE too. As I have tiny hands I know the newer models are going to be too big for me to use comfortably so I'm hanging on too.

To be honest I don't want to have to learn fancy gestures to be able to use a new phone. I'm happy pressing buttons I can reach and having a phone that will fit in the back pocket of my jeans.

It doesn’t have to be cheap though. I want new technology, A decent camera etc, a good quality display. I’m prepared to pay. I just want it in a size I can get ny hands round.

Sosayi · 23/04/2019 16:36

I’ve developed severe tendonitus since having my iPhone 8 I swear it’s the size of the phone
I now have a loop thing on the back of my phone that I slide my finger in to hold it with
I can’t even hold my phone in my hand without severe pain and I have to wear a splint and may need injections if it dosent get any better

I’m in agony with it I have never had it before until I got this phone last year

I'm donning a flameproof suit here, but that's an interesting point, if it's a fact that women have smaller hands than men on average. Is there an underlying bias in Apples R&D department ? I won't take anyones money, but I'd wager it's not got an equal ratio of male and female engineers (much as I'd love to be wrong).

Can I take the suit off now ? ... it's a hot day.

I thought we were all supposed to be using voice control by now ?

Designed for men innit (like most things)

Aroundtheworldandback · 23/04/2019 16:46

I have the big one and to be honest it’s perfect as my eyesight’s not all that!

NotAnotherNameChange99 · 23/04/2019 16:55

Yay! So pleased to see I'm not the only person who loves her SE and doesn't want a big phone in her small hands! My family (all male) take the piss endlessly. I went to get a new battery for it in December but my Apple store didn't have any batteries so replaced the whole phone for £25. So it should be good til the alleged new SE2 comes out.

(Also, I use my right index finger to type, can't do it with thumbs at all and never have, even on an old pre-smart phone)
