To think iPhones are too big?

Upgraded my iPhone 6 to iPhone XR without a whole lot of thought (I know, silly me) as it was the newest model and cheaper than the XS.

AIBU to think it's way too big? Almost impossible to use one handed (holding with both hands whilst typing this) and so much heavier. Don't enjoy using it at all now as I'm always worried about dropping it.

I've since googled and there are loads of articles which say they're too big for most women's hands. If only I'd know before i bought it!

Not really sure what the point of this thread was other than to moan! Very annoying and expensive mistake.

Apple is reportedly working on a smaller phone, but it won't be out until next year.

Apple Report Details New 5.42-inch iPhone

PookieDo · 22/04/2019 15:18

I have a 5 and due my upgrade. I can’t decide between 6 and 7 for this reason

BlueSkiesLies · 22/04/2019 15:19

I use two hands to type, love my X

JaceLancs · 22/04/2019 15:28

I’ve just gone from an SE to an XR and am not enjoying it
But battery was dying too often and little choice
Hope they bring out another small phone soon

Hidingtonothing · 22/04/2019 15:44

I'm limping along with my SE too, hand size is an issue but also pocket size! I never carry a bag and live in jeans, an SE will fit in the back pocket of women's jeans but anything bigger and it sticks out. No idea what I'll do when this one dies Confused

noblegiraffe · 22/04/2019 15:58

I replaced the battery in my 5s to keep it going for another year rather than get a bigger phone.

I wonder if they’ve done any market research on this.

RevealTheLegend · 22/04/2019 16:11

As some unthread said.. popsockets are brilliant for solving the phone slightly too big to type problem.

unsuredd · 22/04/2019 16:12

I have an 8 Plus and I really don't find it too large at all. If I use a normal sized phone I always find them too small now

SecretWitch · 22/04/2019 16:15

My husband has the XR. I took one look at size and ordered an 8. It still fits in my pocket and has the nice water resistant feature too.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 22/04/2019 16:19

I love my SE but I only type using my finger (can't get on with thumbs) & I type pretty quickly.

LiGlitterBug · 22/04/2019 16:45

Definitely agree! I got a new battery for my 6s rather than upgrade as all the newer models are uncomfortable to hold.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 22/04/2019 18:19

I've never typed 2 handed and I use my finger rather than thumb so I definitely need a smaller phone!

How does that work? Do you mean a finger on the other hand to the one you hold your phone with? If so, why would the size of the phone make a difference as long as it will fit comfortably in the one hand?

Otherwise, you are Ms Tickle and I claim my £5 Grin

beanaseireann · 22/04/2019 19:23

I love my 6 plus

gamerwidow · 22/04/2019 19:27

It's not just phones everything is designing for the average man.

www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2019/feb/23/truth-world-built-for-men-car-crashes

Everything from office design to safety equipment isn't built with women in mind. It's a massive problem.

gamerwidow · 22/04/2019 19:28

ps back on topic I will miss my iPhone SE when it dies I don't like the bigger phones.

PookieDo · 22/04/2019 19:29

Should I get a 6 or a 7? Any advice?

stucknoue · 22/04/2019 19:37

I have an se, it's quite big enough!

user1471590586 · 22/04/2019 19:37

I have a Samsung Note 8 which has a bigger screen than the iPhone XR and I love it. I read a lot of newspapers and books on it, do all my online shopping, Internet searches, social media, online banking, play music, takes notes using the pen etc. Since getting this phone I never use a tablet or desktop computer. I could never go back to having a small screen size.

GiantKitten · 22/04/2019 19:48

6 & 7 are same size afaik but 7 more advanced & plus is bigger in both.
My 7 plus has no earphone plugin though, don’t know if that’s true of 6

PookieDo · 22/04/2019 19:50

Argh can’t deal with no headphone jack!!
As I have to have it for 2 years I just want it to last!

Toddlerteaplease · 22/04/2019 19:52

XS mac a the way for me

Reddedder · 22/04/2019 19:52

I could never go back to a normal sized phone. I have no problem typing with one hand and I have small hands

crazypsychedelictrifle · 22/04/2019 20:10

I'm grimly hanging on to my SE, I've been due an upgrade for well over 6 months but I have small hands and the SE is the right size.
I don't know what to go for next. If it wasn't for WhatsApp I'd go back to a 3310 in a heartbeat!

Gekeos · 22/04/2019 20:54

Get a pop socket (£10 Amazon) literally a game changer I would never ever go back to a smaller phone.

mookinsx · 22/04/2019 20:59

iPhone X all the way - considered the 8 plus and now they do an x plus which I may upgrade to

I knew the size before buying and wanted a larger phone. Was going from the 5s which I loved. Although the 4 was great with the glass back. But my 3 was an indestructible little one and I did love it.
