To say I dislike menstural cups?

MrsFoxPlus4 · 22/04/2019 04:08

Iv tired 4 ranging in prices, from different brands, to different shapes. I done the put in the cup in it quiz.

Iv tried different folds.
Iv turned it inside out.
Iv used lube.
Iv cut the stems & iv left the stems.
Iv tried different positions.

I am relaxed I have zero issues about inserting a cup I really wanted to be able to use one but I always find them extremely difficult to open up inside, I can’t get my finger up “run round the rim” of the cup.

Iv watched all the YouTube videos people try to link you to when you voice you’ve had an issue.

This has been over the last 8 months, they also irritate my vagina and she gets rather unhappy with me, iv had trush more than iv had in my full life. My nurse has said I’d be better off taking a break they aren’t agreeing with my body.

So can people just not get along with menstural cups? Menstural cup users are the new version of militant vegans they cannot comprehend someone dislikes them from my experience!

As much as I agree they are better for the environment which is factual they clearly aren’t for me & I’m giving up trying I don’t have money to throw around for a cup to sit in the bathroom cupboard 😅.

Does anyone else feel the same or have the same issues?

Have you tried sponges? They're great,I used them for a year before upgrading Grin

Trinpy · 22/04/2019 11:56

It's not just you OP, I got sucked in by the hype on here about them but I just can't get on with them. Whatever I do it leaks. Such a relief to go back to tampons.

Sturmundcalm · 22/04/2019 11:59

i have a femmecup and a mooncup and much prefer the femmecup as it's softer.

i try and do the twist thing once it's in but don't normally manage a proper twist and it still seals ok. the only time i've had soreness is when i had a heavier period than (my new) usual and had to empty it more than 3 times in a day.

i think you've done well to persist so long and i would definitely have a break for a bit. was there one of them that seemed easier than the others? i find the femmecup both softer but also easier to manage with my internal muscles so that my fingers/hands aren't really inside me much at all if that makes sense.

MrsFoxPlus4 · 22/04/2019 11:59

ParrotWithACarrot I think some people are very pushy with them. I think everyone should try more environmentally friendly san pro, but I’m on the side where it just isn’t for everyone. Iv spent so much on cups that just sit in the cupboard now 😂.

Iv spent about £80 excluding postage and packaging. Got a 2 pack of saalt cups because my niece wanted one too. She’s yet to try it though. I spend like 75p on Asda tampons a month 😅

The put a cup it it quiz recommended a cup and the Organi was similar in the suggestions of the quiz so I tried that. That's rated as a soft cup, still had the same issues. Asked & was suggested to get a firmer cup and tried a Lunette. Same issues. Saalt? Same. Menula same issues 🤷🏻‍♀️ To be honest none of them were more comfortable than the other the rubber of the Organi cup was awful. But they were all equally a pain in the arse 😅.

Haven’t tried reusable sponges, haven’t done any research on them either. I’m giving my vagina a break 😂😂

I've just replaced my mooncup as I've had it for about 13 years, the new one is taking some getting used to tbh, definitely not as firm or easy to spring open. I wonder if the design has changed slightly? This is the original Mooncup.

MrsFoxPlus4 · 22/04/2019 12:04

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen they’ve been around for 13 years? There’s definitely not been enough hype about them. I’m only 27, and can only remember hearing about them in the last couple of years. My niece is 17 and she hadn’t heard about them at school it was a YouTuber she watches. She’s yet to try hers though

What a shame that it's got to the point that anyone would feel they need to justify their choice of sanitary wear. Where is this attitude coming from? Who would think any less of a woman who doesn't use a mooncup?

Have I missed something?

bonzo77 · 22/04/2019 12:08

I have one I can use, and tried 3 that I cannot. There might be one that works for you, but it sounds like you’ve tried pretty hard already. Not everything works for everyone.

CupOhTea · 22/04/2019 12:09

I heard about them in the early noughties. Weirdly from my male best mate 😂. I think it was possibly more than 13 years ago! They’ve been around ages. When I said I used one to friends a few years ago even, they looked horrified. It’s great they’re so much more mainstream now. I just wish I could find one I got on with.

I’m going to use up the tampons I’ve already got before I start researching again though. Like you, op, I feel like I’ve spent a lot on reusable sanpro recently.

MitziK · 22/04/2019 12:09

I didn't get on with mine at first, but I took a break and tried again after a couple of months. I did have soreness and thrush early on, but I figured that might have something to with absolutely nowt going up there Smile and restarted just using it for nights, then increased the time. and I started getting regularly laid

Putting it in is just a fold over, bung in and it shifts into place - I do run it under the hot tap first, as that softens it and eases it without it staying slippery. Removal is easy - on the first day or so, it's very low, so just a pinch and grab but, after that, it seems that my cervix sits higher - removal then is a bit of a wiggle and bearing down slightly to get it within reach.

I now find that the first days are a lot less painful with one, compared to tampons, which are sometimes still used in emergencies (I've used Lil-lets for donkey's years) - and I suspect that I've probably got some degree of prolapse both front and back, as using the loo is a lot easier when it's in. I'm so used to it that at the first sign I might come on during the day/overnight, I'll put it in so I don't get caught out; I could never do that with a tampon.

But if you don't want to use one, that's fine - it's your vagina and only you can decide what goes up it, after all.

BlackCatSleeping · 22/04/2019 12:10

I didn’t get on with them either. I want to give reusable sanpro a go. I could never use tampons either. They give me a horrible dragging feeling inside.

MitziK · 22/04/2019 12:11

Although, if they're all a pain in the arse - have you considered that you aren't putting them up the right hole?

YANBU to say you dislike cups. It sounds like you're persevered much longer than most would.

I think what generally gets peoples backs up, is when people describe them as disgusting, but tbh that's normally people who've never even tried them.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen I think the mooncups are definitely softer than they used to be. I got my first about 15 years ago and remember at the time it was an effort to fold it and avoid it springing open too soon. The new ones don't spring back quite the same ime.

CupOhTea · 22/04/2019 12:12

I think for me, I’ve only just had my first normal period in years as I was pregnant, bfing and then on (bastard) mini pill for a while. So I’m getting used to that as it is. I’m going to try again after a break. I’ve had a little look at sponges too and they look promising and maybe a bit more comfy!

CupOhTea · 22/04/2019 12:13

Grin @mitzik

MrsFoxPlus4 · 22/04/2019 12:13

It’s definitely not the issue that my vagina isn’t used to things going up there because Iv and 4 kids, and I have a husband and he’s up there a lot 😂😂.

caughtinanet I think it’s just people who are super passionate about the environment etc but it’s mad not to be able to understand some women just can’t use them because not every women or vagina is the same.

Might I add for anyone considering these the Organi cup rubber is awful if it catches some pubes it’s the kind of rubber that hates hair

CaptSkippy · 22/04/2019 12:28

After having bad luck with tampons (intense pain due to chafing) I don't want to try with anything internal again, even if that means I can't swim during my period.

I also don't want to use reusable pads, since I would need to be keeping anywhere from 5 to 7 soiled ones in a bag on my heaviest days, when I am out of the house all day. Sorry, but gross. I don't want the smell of blood coming out of my bag all day.

Disposable pads it is. I can just manage with them, but I still hate my heavy periods.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 22/04/2019 12:33

Try washable if you’re going original reason for trying the cup was a greener alternative? I use Cheeky Mama & really like them. I’ve offset the cost in under a year & my washing machine is on daily already (5 dc) so they don’t create any extra laundry.

MyHeadIsBursting · 22/04/2019 12:47

YANBU. Like you I really wanted to switch to a cup. I tried 3 different types and mastered inserting/removing pretty much straight away. However, no matter how soft the cup was, or how high or low it was inserted I just couldn't pee! Even when I felt like I was going to burst I'd go to the loo and...nothing!

I've switched to reusable pads with period pants and I'm very happy with them.

SerenDippitty · 22/04/2019 12:47

I used a mooncup very happily for the last few years of my menstruating life. I haven’t had a period in 8 years so they have been around some time. I get they aren’t for everyone. I stopped being able to use tampons when I went into perimenopause, they were just too drying.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 22/04/2019 13:02

Sounds dire but genuine question, what chaffs with a tampon as it's internal?

soulrider glad it's not just me who has noticed,my old one would have sprung across the bathroom given had a chanceGrin

TheCatDidSay · 22/04/2019 13:08

I brought one thinking it would be the best thing ever. It’s sat at the back of a cupboard in its little bag for the last 6 years. I gave up. I don’t like the idea of reusable pads so I just take contraception that stops my periods. It’s eco friendly I guess Grin

Cornettoninja · 22/04/2019 13:14

I used one for a couple of years before dd was born but haven’t gone back to it. Tbh thrush was an issue for me too (despite sterilising the life out of it before, after and during) and I just prefer pads these days. I really like the look of the reusable ones, they look like comfy pj’s. Not sure what they’d be like for use out of the house though

MsTSwift · 22/04/2019 13:19

Must be the circles you move in never discuss san pro with friends too weird certainly wouldn’t comment on anyone’s choice! Can’t envisage aggressive pro moon cuppers. Love mine but too shy to mention it to anyone (bar dd who thinks I’m a weirdo for using it anyway)
