To say I dislike menstural cups?

MrsFoxPlus4 · 22/04/2019 04:08

Iv tired 4 ranging in prices, from different brands, to different shapes. I done the put in the cup in it quiz.

Iv tried different folds.
Iv turned it inside out.
Iv used lube.
Iv cut the stems & iv left the stems.
Iv tried different positions.

I am relaxed I have zero issues about inserting a cup I really wanted to be able to use one but I always find them extremely difficult to open up inside, I can’t get my finger up “run round the rim” of the cup.

Iv watched all the YouTube videos people try to link you to when you voice you’ve had an issue.

This has been over the last 8 months, they also irritate my vagina and she gets rather unhappy with me, iv had trush more than iv had in my full life. My nurse has said I’d be better off taking a break they aren’t agreeing with my body.

So can people just not get along with menstural cups? Menstural cup users are the new version of militant vegans they cannot comprehend someone dislikes them from my experience!

As much as I agree they are better for the environment which is factual they clearly aren’t for me & I’m giving up trying I don’t have money to throw around for a cup to sit in the bathroom cupboard 😅.

Does anyone else feel the same or have the same issues?

I wouldn't even try they sound ghastly.

Lillets all the way for me

NannyR · 22/04/2019 09:56

I'm the same, I've tried two different brands (mooncup and sckoon) and I can insert them no problem, but they feel very uncomfortable, a crampy dull ache and I find them very difficult to remove. I've persevered for months, tried all sorts of tips and techniques, different positions etc but just come to the conclusion that they don't suit my body. I can use tampons without any issues at all.
I'm gutted as I really wanted it to work, I think they are such a good idea, economically and environmentally. Instead I use washable pads and the occasional tampon if I'm swimming.

TreacherousPissFlap · 22/04/2019 10:00

I hate mine!
I trot it out again every few months or so but it's no better. I just can't be doing with the furtling around needed to remove it, the mess and the general upheaval involved in it.

GuineaPiglet345 · 22/04/2019 10:03

I wouldn’t even try one, the thought makes me gag, I don’t use tampons either because whenever I have I become convinced I’ve left one in, so I just stick to pads, but at the minute my periods are quite short and not too heavy so I’m lucky in that respect.

SushiTrain · 22/04/2019 10:04

I actually detest these things-tried to get on with them for2months on the enviromental thing,no joy&soddin uncomfortable-so straight back to tampons,my old reliable since i was 12.(&yes its like a plague of mooncup zealots where i live too😂)

Chocmallows · 22/04/2019 10:10

Every cervix is different I guess. I can use one, but short v heavy periods make them less practical as I have to empty too often. I never got on with tampons and went through a stage of wondering what was wrong with me. Now don't care!

CombFromAShoe · 22/04/2019 10:11

I genuinely love my LadyCup, didn't get along with the moon cup brand as it was much too firm.

But you've given cups a fair chance and they're clearly not working for you. I think you can move on to something else with no regrets!!

MrsFoxPlus4 · 22/04/2019 11:04

I just use tampons, small bullet ones. I hate pads, even reusable ones! I don't mind when it's my lighter days but I hate them on my heavy days I can't stand the feeling in my underwear. Reusable pads are pretty though 😂

Maybe it's because Iv had 4 kids 😅.

Also the run the finger around the rim comment, my finger can't reach the rim ever. I don't know if I have small fingers or a deep vagina but it's not possible 😂

Im glad to see people on here aren’t as harsh as groups Iv asked for advice. They all just assume you aren’t trying or doing something wrong!

YADNBU , I can’t use any internal protection as it all hurts like hell . I can’t inserstand how anyone can tbh , I ended up blacking out trying to remove a tampon at work it was so sore . Felt like I was pulling out my insides . GP suggested a mooncip whilst environmentally wonderful may be very problematic!

itsbetterthanabox · 22/04/2019 11:08

I don't my finger round I grab the base and turn the whole thing which makes it open.
You might need a softer one if you have a strong pelvic floor.

ifigoup · 22/04/2019 11:09

I used to absolutely adore my Mooncup and not understand why anyone would use anything else, but post having a child I have a slight prolapse and now it just won’t stay in place. It’s pokey and uncomfortable so unfortunately I can’t use it any more. I now use a combination of cloth pads and absorbent knickers (similar to Thinx, but mine are actually made by Cheeky Wipes). These are expensive but really good. I donthave particularly heavy periods, though.

PCohle · 22/04/2019 11:10

Yep they didn't work at all for me - wildly uncomfortable and they leaked.

Whenever I've mentioned this I get told I'm doing it wrong and must be uncomfortable with my own body. I find it quite wearing.

itsbetterthanabox · 22/04/2019 11:11

Meluna make cheap and really customisable cups. Best I've used.

Fairylea · 22/04/2019 11:11

Can’t stand the idea to be honest. I don’t fancy fiddling about with blood filled things and washing stuff out. Much rather just whip a pad off and bin it or pull out a disposable tampon.

Peachesandcream14 · 22/04/2019 11:16

I ordered the most flexible cup I could find, a vida cup, and ignored advice about getting the bigger one due to having had a vaginal delivery because I know I have very good kegel muscles, a bigger one or less flexible one would be uncomfortable I'm sure. However the one I got is perfect and I am a total convert. I always found tampons drying and irritating, and pads make me feel like I'm in a nappy. But you've tried 4 OP and they weren't good for you so I wouldn't try to persevere if I were you, use sanpro that makes your life easier not harder

JaceLancs · 22/04/2019 11:40

I couldn’t use one due to having a tilted cervix

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 22/04/2019 11:43

I can’t get my finger up “run round the rim” of the cup

What?Confused I fold it in half, insert and give it a half turn to seal it and that's it.

YesQueen · 22/04/2019 11:44

I have a tilted womb/cervix and they work well for me. I didn't like the moo cup as the rim was too hard but I've swapped to a si bell which is v v soft and much prefer it

MrsFoxPlus4 · 22/04/2019 11:47

itsbetterthanabox that method for me doesn’t work. Still can’t get it to open. & Iv tried Menula didn’t work me either lol. My first cup was very marked very soft on a scale I seen and still no luck lol.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen it’s advice Iv been told numerous times to get the cup to open and neither that method or the one you suggested works!

JaceLancs Iv been told mines is tilted ever so slightly, maybe that’s another issue!

OP posts:
DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 22/04/2019 11:48

Why does having a tilted cervix make then hard to use seeing as you wear them very low down?

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 22/04/2019 11:49

Sorry ,X posted. Are you wearing it low enough?

CupOhTea · 22/04/2019 11:50

I don’t like them either. I now also mainly use reusable pads, but if it’s heavier or I’m doing sport I do use disposable, (organic), tampons. It’s not ideal, but I don’t get on with the two cups I’ve tried at all.

They’re uncomfortable for me and I swear that using them gave me thrush and cystitis, but that could just be coincidence. I don’t have any of these problems with occasional use of tampons.

I also find squeezing a blood filled cup to remove it while it’s still inside really unpleasant, but I could live with that if it wasn’t for the other issues.

Maybe I should try some others... like the op, I’d love to be converted Smile.

MrsFoxPlus4 · 22/04/2019 11:51

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen I’m wearing them as comfortably as can, it hurts, it leaks, and I usually end up with thrush as a result 😅. I was just posting to see if anyone else had issue because before this post Iv only came across people who seem to think the issue is the person.

TheFastandCurious · 22/04/2019 11:52

I detest them with a passion. Upthread someone mentioned people being militant with them and I agree. Some people just can’t get their heads round women having very different experiences when it comes to periods / protection / flows etc it’s quite weird Confused

I’m with you OP and a few others on here who just can’t stand them.

Butteredghost · 22/04/2019 11:54

I also wanted to like these but I can't get on with them either. It went in right once and it was great. Literally once. Every other time I've tried has been a disaster or not even got off the ground as I couldn't get the damn thing in. I've gone back to reusable pads and the occasional tampon.
