I want to hear about your good or bad encounters with a celebrity/famous person please! In the late nineties I met the chef Ainsley Harriot at a London train station when I was cueing to buy a ticket! I was very excited about this and told him I loved the show Ready Steady Cook which he was on at the time, he was really nice and chatty but I didn't get his autograph though! More recently about 2 years ago Ray Winston was sitting at the table beside us in a Chinese restaurant but we didn't get to speak as he was engrossed in conversation. I nearly forgot Todd Carty aka Mark from East Enders used to use our local newsagent in the morning on way to Elstree again in the nineties, he was always very smiley and drove a little MG!

faw2009, I love Rupert Graves, since the 90s! So glad he's nice in real life.

Not me, but my dad at the pub she works at when home from uni.

Patrick Stewart - lovely, warm, friendly, and with a beautiful voice.

Peter Capaldi - she didn't realise at first, and asked him if he knew he looked like Peter Capaldi. No, he said, in a Scottish accent, who's that? The guy who plays Doctor Who... Ah. Takes his pint, walks away from the bar and turns around and grins at her as her boss is pissing himself laughing, saying you do know that actually is Peter Capaldi (apparently he'd been in the pub before). She said he was extremely well dressed, quietly spoken and seemed lovely. She also warned her mother (who has had a thing about him since Local Hero) that stalking is still illegal, as he'd booked a private room in the pub for a couple of weeks later, after she'd gone back to uni.

DD not dad!

IntoValhalla · 22/04/2019 16:33

I met Katie Price once.
A friend of mine works in publicity and has a few friends that are minor celebrities from back in the day when she worked for their management. KP was invited to her hen party that I also attended.
I wish I could say that she’s a nice person....but she really not Blush My friend was the hen, so obviously all the games etc put her at the centre of them, and KP was clearly miffed that it wasn’t the “Katie Price Show” and everyone was just enjoying the party and games and cocktail mixing station more than fawning over her. She started talking about something or other, but then the spectacular cake that my friend’s mum had made got brought out, and everyone started “oooing and aahhing” over that, and she actually said “It’s like I’m not even here!” - and went to the toilet in a huff Hmm
Was an interesting experience to say the least!
I also met Olly Murs (absolute sweetheart), and John Barrowman. JB was completely accidental, as my toddler escaped my clutches and ran face first into his knees Blush He was lovely about it, picked DS up of the floor, popped him back on his feet and told him “walk it off buddy” Grin

I hate threads like these. I didn’t go on mumsnet for a bit to avoid a previous thread like this.
If people weren’t so obsessed by fame and famous people I think the nature of society would be different and better and those who abuse their fame to exploit women wouldn’t have so many opportunities.
A family member is married to someone famous; without a shadow of a doubt the whole family dynamic is ruined. Once turned up uninvited to something my child was doing, within hours of this people my child had known for years started to invite him to parties.
People make decisions which have been hurtful in order to accommodate/avoid this person.
Try walking into a room and people look behind you to see if the other person is there.
As a society we should try to be more relaxed about fame.

We met Zac Dingle of Coronation street in a pub on a campsite.. We asked him If it was him and he said, no!
We hummed and arred all night wondering if it was him (he looks a little different in RL) as he was leaving the pub he came over and apologised for being a bit off, he explained he always gets attention and just wanted a quiet drink.
Part of me understood but I also thought a quick hello wouldn't have hurt.

Looobyloo · 22/04/2019 17:01

I meant Zac Dingle of Emmerdale! Not Coronation street.

isseywithcats · 22/04/2019 17:03

You didn’t have to click on the thread, read it and comment on it ewab but you’re obviously far more superior than we are.

Goodmum1234 · 22/04/2019 17:19

Nasty old woman, Mary Berry. Was at the new food show a few years back, bought her baking bible and queued to get it signed. Was pnd at time to. She didn’t even look at me and said, ‘name’. I was gutted. Haven’t watched her since and I was so sad

Butterfly98 · 22/04/2019 17:23

@EWAB please don't be so serious and take this thread in the spirit it was intended which was light hearted! Personally I've enjoyed reading each and everyone of these posts.... no one is forcing you to read this thread so if you want to be so miserable on such a sunny day then bore off somewhere else then!

The words “piss” and “chips” spring to mind.

MissEliza · 22/04/2019 17:43

@EWAB there's dozens of threads you could have clicked on. I hate the cult of celebrity too but this is just a bit of fun

Toooldtobearsed2 · 22/04/2019 17:49

I know dozens of household names, but they are politicians, from all major parties.

All from a previous life, and, with the exception of one or two, all genuinely nice people.

Ggrrrr, i do miss it sometimes.....😣

AGoodWench · 22/04/2019 17:52

Toold : Whenever I see John McDonnell I ponder on whether I would take a cup of tea from him or not if he offered.

Chardonnay73 · 22/04/2019 17:53

Dh used to be a surveyor and went to a lot of famous people’s houses. I am reliably informed that :
Hugh Laurie- down to earth
Shaun Bean - top bloke gave dh his last pg tips teabag
Mel B - wearing leopard skin dressing gown, ‘small and nice’ is how dh remembers her. Was just about to go and have tea with William and Harry!!
Claire Grogan - wore a thong and a short skirt and bent over in front of dh...he was like this 😱
Dave Rowntree ( drummer from Blur) fairly quiet.
Joan Bakewell- very nice, like your mums best friend
Gary Lineker- was in bad mood and spoke to his ( first) wife like shit.
Jay Kay -just generally grunted
Rowan Atkinson- nice but painfully shy

EWAB · 22/04/2019 17:56

Totally accept I should not have clicked on the thread as it hits a nerve. But it adds to the culture where celebrities are lauded in an unhealthy way.
Sexual predators are sexual predators in whatever walk of life they are in but people’s attitude to fame definitely enabled some of the worst cases.

Toooldtobearsed2 · 22/04/2019 18:01

@AGoodWench i wouldn't if I were you 😉

birdshavewings · 22/04/2019 18:07

I've met lots of celebrities through my job...

Geri Haliwell
Mick Jagger
David Beckham
Coldplay
Sting
Bradley Cooper
Reiss Witherspoon
Dave Grohl - NICEST GUY EVER!!
Tony Blair (celeb no - interesting no!)
Stormzy
Shaggy
Franki Dettori

MaybeitsMaybelline · 22/04/2019 18:10

Denzel Washington, rude and dismissive
Nelson Mandela lovely and gracious
Clive Owen and Jimmy Nesbit, at the same time. Clive Owen lovely, reserved, polite and fit as Nesbitt, loud, rude, and on something be it alcohol or worse.
Carol vorderman, and a few years ago, tiny, very pretty and bubbly
The entire crew of Geordie shore in their hey day.
There are lots of others that are either Zlisters or sportsmen of no significance.

kittens876 · 22/04/2019 18:14

Gary Glitter- used to hang around outside my secondary school. We had an assembly about it! Ergh!
Craig Charles- coke head, but took me and my friends out to dinner and gave us free tickets to his show as students after we met him in the pub, so he was ok by us!

Parly · 22/04/2019 18:19

@IntoValhalla

What a shame. I've often wondered about Katie Price and if the general diva reputation was unfairly dished out because she was a glamour model and makes some questionable personal choices.

Know a few horsey people that have either seen or competed alongside her and rated her strongly as a rider but I'd hoped she wasn't the arse she comes across as being on a personal level.
