I want to hear about your good or bad encounters with a celebrity/famous person please! In the late nineties I met the chef Ainsley Harriot at a London train station when I was cueing to buy a ticket! I was very excited about this and told him I loved the show Ready Steady Cook which he was on at the time, he was really nice and chatty but I didn't get his autograph though! More recently about 2 years ago Ray Winston was sitting at the table beside us in a Chinese restaurant but we didn't get to speak as he was engrossed in conversation. I nearly forgot Todd Carty aka Mark from East Enders used to use our local newsagent in the morning on way to Elstree again in the nineties, he was always very smiley and drove a little MG!

Peter Andre - unbelievably nice. Very friendly, interested and considerate.
Katie Price (they were together at the time) - total opposite. Very unfriendly and snappy. Bossy to Peter. Smaller than I thought she'd be.

Lee Ryan from Blue / easterners - sweet guy, funny and down to earth.

Emma Bunton - so friendly!

Sharon Osbourne - hilarious, really chatty, smelled really nice, very motherly.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 22/04/2019 18:21

Another thread curmudgeon here, but I can't help thinking what an unmitigated nightmare it must be to have your face so well-known that strangers approach you every time you put your face out of doors. I can't imagine a worse idea of hell, and to me the idea that so many people actively covet that situation just defies logic altogether. If anyone wants the 15 minutes allotted to me, they're welcome to it!

The 'do you know who I am?' thing is equally cringeworthy. Do people actually say that?

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 22/04/2019 18:23

NB. I'm shuddering at the post about Gary Glitter. Fame brings power and not always the right kind. Thank God for #MeToo and an apparently more enlightened society.

tillytoodles1 · 22/04/2019 18:23

Sugarformyhoney I met Barry from Brookside at a golf tournament and he was lovely, so chatty and funny.

IndieTara · 22/04/2019 18:27

Murray WAlker - legend
Phil Collins - Twatty
Tony Iommi - Rock god
Noddy Holder - friendly
Martin Brundle - lovely
Julie Walters - also legend

Coveredincathair · 22/04/2019 18:36

Dustin Hoffman, lovely man, I was too star struck to talk but my friend did. Asked after us, so nice.

Butterfly98 · 22/04/2019 18:37

@EWAB you do actually make a valid point though about the fame hungry celebrity culture, just to be fair to you, but I think that's for another serious type of conversation some other day

Seen John Bishop walking about House of Fraser the day after his gig that we'd been to the night before. DH said "there's stevie!!!!!" as it was one of his jokes the night before, Bishop proper laughed, asked if we had a good night and DH said it was brilliant. Bishop said thanks, glad you enjoyed it, see you later!!!

Meanwhile I stood like this Grin like a right eejit!!!!

Bythebanksof · 22/04/2019 18:49

Donovan (old folk/hippy singer/songwriter) delayed while going through airport security. Very friendly and modest.

Eric Cantona (after he retired) waiting for a taxi in London. Didn't say anything but gave up his taxi to a lady with younger kids who looked to be in a rush.

Leo Varadkar (Irish PM .. before he was a minister) being very rude and insulting to airline staff over a flight delay.

HarrysOwl · 22/04/2019 18:58

Years and years ago I had a job and came into contact with a few celebs.

Patrick Stewart - lovely man. He accidentally stood on my foot but was very apologetic.

John Barrowman - a sweetheart. Down to earth and really kind. He smells amazing.

Alan Carr - might have been a bad day but he was snappy and unfriendly.

Frank Skinner - absolutely wonderful! Gave me a hug when I complimented his set.

Russell T Davies - massive Doctor Who fan so I found it really hard to be professional. But he was my favourite! We shared a few sneaky cigarettes and had a laugh before his event.

Dawn French - very nice but not a lot of patience, wanted the 'meeting public' section of her event done as fast as possible.

Richard Attenborough - he was a real gentleman. Lovely.

Dom Jolly - great guy! Loves attention and had all the time in the world for fans.

There's a few more if I can think of them...

My friend works in TV (This Morning) and told me Phil and Holly are awful, full of ego and treat the crew like shit, and Eamon & Ruth hate eachother and don't get on anymore but pretend they're happily married for the sake of both their careers.

Confused
HarrysOwl · 22/04/2019 19:02

Oooh I saw Dame Judi Dench once, walking through my town - she was arm in arm with a friend walking toward me.

As it clicked who it was, I happened to catch her eye and gave her the biggest smile, she gave a small smile like 'yeah, it's me' and winked at me.

Sexiest wink ever. Amazing lady!

WaitrosePigeon · 22/04/2019 19:06

Jeremy Irons. He is delicious.

SchrodingersBrexit · 22/04/2019 19:12

@HarrysOwl oh no! Not Holly Sad I'm not surprised by Phil at all, but Holly Sad

AnnieMay100 · 22/04/2019 19:17

Met Simon cowell briefly, thinks he’s gods gift Hmm
Danny dyer in a London restaurant, actually speaks fairly posh his cockney accent is put on, find him a bit irritating but was pleasant enough
Katie price on a night out, rude and tried to start a fight with young girls while knocking back drink and got herself kicked out
Victoria beckham at an airport, she was surprisingly nice and even cracked a smile didn’t expect that Blush
Caught a glimpse of George clooney on holiday years ago poor sod had a crowd glued to him when he just wanted to relax

HarrysOwl · 22/04/2019 19:20

@SchrodingersBrexit I know! I told my friend that I wished they hadn't told me!!

They work with her regularly and she's known as being a right cow apparently. Quite demanding and refuses to acknowledge any crew Sad

Ben Shepherd on the other hand my friend says is lovely, always buys the crew drinks and knows them all by name.

And Piers Morgan is, by my friend's experience, actually quite kind, not like his TV persona at all and buys the crew cakes Grin

AnnieMay100 · 22/04/2019 19:24

My best friend has met holly twice once alone and once with her children on a day out and she said the same that she’s basically a stuck up bitch, she comes across as really nice it’s a shame what fame does to people

Hungrymamabear · 22/04/2019 19:25

Used to live in sane road as m dot r (white dancehall artist from Kent) I think his fame only reached in Kent area though

SchrodingersBrexit · 22/04/2019 19:25

@HarrysOwl Sad she seems authentically nice. Not like Lorraine Kelly for example who plays the role of someone who is nice, but I imagine is actually very difficult.

Parly · 22/04/2019 19:35

To pick up on a few good points raised re: how hard it must be to constantly have people pester and hassle you when you're out and about – that would without question make me one of the universally loathed for sure.

I'm friendly, always polite and get on with pretty much anyone and everyone but run a short fuse, have a bad temper, foul mouth and tend to be sharp, short and sweet before I get mad.

Must be so annoying having people peck, pester and never leave you alone to so much as piss in peace.

You remember when Bjork smacked that journalist right in the mouth once for hassling her daughter at the airport? That'd be me. Not that I'm condoning or bigging up physical violence but she specifically said to the journalists beforehand not to take photographs or try getting near her daughter. Specifically said "Don't take shots of her or stick a mic in her face - she's a young child and off limits" and they jumped on her. I'd have been absolutely livid and kicked her all the way round that airport and back again.

Don't watch soaps but recently read something about a young lass from Emmerdale I gather was only recently cast in the show and has been sacked because of an offensive or racist tweet she posted a few years ago when she was still a teenager. That's ridiculous.

Think it's particularly shit of whoever it was that fired the girl and didn't instead work out how to acknowledge what she posted was wrong, make her publicly apologise and get it out there but allow her to at least keep her career in some state of repair rather than actively end it.

I mean fuck me who hasn't posted, done, said or got something from their past?

goldface · 22/04/2019 19:36

Graham Norton and Michael Ball - on separate occasions!
Both were absolutely delightful, funny and patient and kind ❤️

Tequilamockinbird · 22/04/2019 19:44

At a charity event, Robbie Savage, Frank & Christine Lampard, and Rio Ferdinand.

Frank, Christine and Rio were all lovely, really friendly and seemed quite down to earth.

Robbie was an arrogant knob though!

francienolan · 22/04/2019 19:54

John Cleese, Eric Idle, Shaun Williamson, David Hyde Pierce, Faith Prince, Glenn Close, Ice-T, all very, very nice.

I've met a number of famous people who are NOT nice but specific stories could be outing, and it's probably not really in the spirit of the thread.

Once I was watching a West End musical and Prince Charles arrived, but he arrived late, and people weren't sure whether they should stand up or not as the show had already begun!

Parly · 22/04/2019 19:57

Sorry if anyone has already answered this but there's so many replies and it's impossible to keep track and trawl through each one but has anyone met Princess Anne?

I'd love to meet her (and the Queen actually) but in a relaxed, informal off the clock sort of environment.

Goddamit she could ride like the wind back in her day. Hope she's the same very dreadfully awfully posh but terribly down to earth like Mary King.

Vicliz24 · 22/04/2019 20:11

Murray Walker - wonderful man
Danced with Vic and Bob once in a club . They were post gig and hammered but loads of fun.
Catherine Tate - absolutely fantastic laugh . Definitely down to earth and fun.
Jarvis Cocker - sat next to him on the tube - nice but shy
Charles and Camilla when I accidentally trespassed into their private area at Gardeners World Show - both lovely and didn't seem to mind me blundering in at all . I was mortified and surprised at their lack of security.

malificent7 · 22/04/2019 20:23

Pete from Big Brother at a festival....shy/ lovely
Ulrika Johnson before Sven gate....dont rember...was young.
Cerys Mathews from Catatonia. Sweet
