I want to hear about your good or bad encounters with a celebrity/famous person please! In the late nineties I met the chef Ainsley Harriot at a London train station when I was cueing to buy a ticket! I was very excited about this and told him I loved the show Ready Steady Cook which he was on at the time, he was really nice and chatty but I didn't get his autograph though! More recently about 2 years ago Ray Winston was sitting at the table beside us in a Chinese restaurant but we didn't get to speak as he was engrossed in conversation. I nearly forgot Todd Carty aka Mark from East Enders used to use our local newsagent in the morning on way to Elstree again in the nineties, he was always very smiley and drove a little MG!

Oh and Kenny Dalglesh was awful

Driftingthoughlife · 22/04/2019 14:39

Sorry forgot Hugh Dennis who was also really nice

itsnotso · 22/04/2019 14:43

Frankie Detorri stole my pen at Pontefract racecourse when I was 7. I had bought it at Disney so desperately needed it back, so I ran after him and asked and he shouted at me to "wait a minute" as he was signing other autographs. Made me cry 😥. Totally over the loss of my Disney pen now though!

So glad (and not surprised ) that Brian May is lovely . I saw him many years ago in London ( IIRC Tottenham Court Road ) . I "knew" him but couldn't place him, my DH said "Oh that's Brian May"
He gave me a broad (slightly goofy) grin. He had a young girl with him (guessing his daughter)
As he was out with his child and the "never meet you hero , they might be an arse" mantra in my head , the moment passed .
I had my Queen concert ticket in my bag , I could've asked him to sign it , but ,

My DSis has met a couple of famous people: ( this is her opinion)

Ian Kelsey (Emmerdale) lovely
Duke of Edinburgh-as you would imagine, polite but a bit sweary Grin

Jimmy Saville - when she was out jogging . He was training for a Marathon and used to say hello in passing .

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 22/04/2019 15:06

Vic Reeves in a Waterstones bookshop ( he was wearing a long black coat , my DH recognised him first) The women behind the till said he often came in and was always lovely .

Tom Baker (Dr Who of my era) in Waitrose , hear him before you see him (very distinctive voice ) . He was chatting up the woman at the Deli counter (I don't think he knows quiet though ) Grin

Ainsley Harriott sang happy birthday to me when my friend told him it was my birthday. She was a filthy liar and I was mortified.

Spoke to Patrick Moore (the astronomer) on the phone, we talked about going on a picnic together in a purely fictional scenario. Bizarre but lovely.

Jarvis Cocker in Chicago airport. We were getting the same connecting flight and I helped him find the gate. He was so lovely and sweet. I got a photo and I look like a grinning moron.

Razorlight on the same holiday but the return leg. They were not so lovely but suspect they were incredibly hungover.

RubberTreePlant · 22/04/2019 15:20

There's something really needy & pathetic about these threads. They're just people ffs

Imagine being well known and people acting like gibbering idiots wherever you go.

Prinstress · 22/04/2019 15:24

Oh Bobby Charlton is the best. He came over to speak to me for about 15 mins at an event, he was an absolute darling, but I had no idea who he was until he’d said goodbye.

Mammyloveswine · 22/04/2019 15:29

Prince Charles-lovely and much shorter than i expected!

Amy from emmerdale (the old actress not the new one!). Met her in nightclub in Newcastle and she was lovely.

Shane from boyzone... very nice.

Ricky whittle was very handsome and extremely good fun! Spent a lot of time with me and my friend!

Bobby Robson was absolutely gorgeous, such a lovely, warm man!

Tom Fletcher.. he was polite but not as nice as i was expecting him to be. I had my toddler with me and was 8 months pregnant. He was doing a book signing
Just seemed very standoffish and a bit "cold". Not at all how he portrays himself. I was disappointed.

Caught Jimmy carrs eye in york one day but couldn't place him.. then it dawned on me and he laughed and winked when i must have had the moment of recognition.

Jake Humphries made out like he was the big I am, not a fan.

Scotty T made a guest appearance on my hen do... i didn't watch Geordie shore so didn't know who he was. Was a lovely lad though and found it hilarious me going "i have no idea who you are" Grin

AlbusSeverusMalfoy · 22/04/2019 15:32

Stacey from Gavin and Stacey - she was local to the area at the time

DennisSkinnersMolotov · 22/04/2019 15:33

Not me but my DS (who was 3 at the time) was kissed by Flava Flav - his security tried to push me out of the way while FF had hold of DS and I was terrified.
Same year, different event, Tricky came from back stage when he spotted DS dancing away enjoying the band that were on. He said said he couldn't not come and share DS's joy.

Dustyroad63 · 22/04/2019 15:35

MamTDM

Lucky you meeting James Dean Bradfield. He's my guitar hero.
What type of dog did he have?

Marchitectmummy · 22/04/2019 15:50

Amanda Holden - hideously rude and was in the street screaming at Jim Davidson when they were still married. He appeared absolutely beaten by her. He tried to walk off and she kept on screaming.

David Bowie - amazing, so friendly and humble. As was his wife.

Bear Grills - a really nice and happy person. His wife on the other hand an absolute rude unpleasant woman.

Yasmin me bon - so lovely and so very beautiful, pictures just dull how beautiful she is.

Davina McCall - She was running Billion Dollar Babes pre fame of streetmate and was a booker at the agency I was on the books of. She was great fun then but no idea if she stayed that way once famous.

Rod Stewart and Penny Lancaster - both super friendly and relaxed people. Very unaffected by their fame.

Barbara Windsor - Exactly as you would expect. She was our neighbour for a couple of years. She was so lovely and went out of her way to shop local and get to knew all of us. Loved young people (we were early 20s at the time) and when builders were repairing our block she seemed always happy to respond to their cat calls and shouts of Babs.

Spice Girls - didn't talk to them but was at the same parties a few times. Very dull from a distance.

hibbledibble · 22/04/2019 15:52

Robert Winston: utterly charming
One of the members of Noah and the whale: mahoosive ego and very arrogant.

dancingthroughthedark · 22/04/2019 15:54

David Jason lovely my ds was hot and he went and got him a drink
Martin Clunes also lovely and chatty
Sting and Trudie Styler Awful very much 'look at us we are so famous and you are so lucky to be here with us!'
Phyllis Logan A really lovely lady
Hugh Grant Had a lovely awfully British chat about the weather and the views! (wasn't until I walked away I realised who it was!)
The late Emma Chambers was probably one of the nicest and friendliest actresses I have met and she was very nice to my children too.

hibbledibble · 22/04/2019 15:54

Oh and Gordon Brown. He came across as a lovely person

RubberTreePlant · 22/04/2019 15:55

@Marchitectmummy I don't think you mean Jim Davidson.

Marchitectmummy · 22/04/2019 15:59

@rubbertreeplant you are right what is the name of the man she was married to, comedian? A fair bit older than her? It was him they were married at the time and arguing in Baker Street... I'll look him up if no one knows his name.

redbedheadd · 22/04/2019 15:59

Princess Beatrice - really lovely and down to earth.

I must live near John Torrode as I always see him, I smile and he never smiles back.

RubberTreePlant · 22/04/2019 16:01

Les something. I think he's probably much pleasanter than Jim D.

cstaff · 22/04/2019 16:01

Colin Farrell in a pub in Dublin - really sweet and good fun.

Justin Timberlake at the same pub but different time - what an arse.

Buster72 · 22/04/2019 16:01

@ahtellthee
I attended in an official capacity not as a guest
It was memorable.

Marchitectmummy · 22/04/2019 16:04

@rubbertreeplant yep that's him Les Dennis. Completely different person! Thanks

Parly · 22/04/2019 16:14

A few. I was in the choir when “Ocean World” premiered and was broadcast on Channel 4 with David Attenborough narrating. He was every bit as charming and typically old-fashioned British gentleman as you'd expect and his normal speaking voice is exactly the same as his narration.

Brian Blessed during a workshop held by the RSC at Bolton Octagon Theatre I think it was. He said I had a great voice that carried well and was one of the few ladies to match his lung capacity, blow a hole in the back of the theatre and bounce it back again. Again just the same as he is on TV. Lots of swears and exaggerated arm gestures and loud as tits.

Sam Brown when she played a few nights whilst touring with Jools Holland back in the early 90's. Tiniest little thing you couldn't believe would be capable of making that noise but she belted out a voice that literally took your breath away.

Zara Phillips / Tindall and a few other horsey royals at Badminton and Burghley horse trials.

Keith Flint a few times during track day racing. He was a keen biker and used to potter in and out the cabin for a brew and keep tabs on the boards and was the nicest, most quietly spoken, well-mannered chap in the world. I had a blow out taking a corner to fast at Elvington airfield and he was impressed at my skills and keeping the car from rolling “Nice one didn't know it was a girl in the driver seat... sound bit of driving” Grin

Morrisey in the early 90's. Biggest twat that ever lived. The most arrogant, petulant little shit with an attitude far bigger than his talent he's such a cock it's impossible to describe Angry

YoThePussy · 22/04/2019 16:22

An infamous one for you rather than famous. I used to work at the same charity as Cathy Eastburn the woman who glued herself to a DLR train last week. Remember her as very pleasant and was known as Kinky Boots as had some rather funky boots at that time.

Met Alastair Campbell, Tony Blair’s chum a couple of months ago. Absolute charmer, gave me over £20 worth of signed and dedicated books. Not a Labour supporter but he could have turned my way of thinking easily.
