I want to hear about your good or bad encounters with a celebrity/famous person please! In the late nineties I met the chef Ainsley Harriot at a London train station when I was cueing to buy a ticket! I was very excited about this and told him I loved the show Ready Steady Cook which he was on at the time, he was really nice and chatty but I didn't get his autograph though! More recently about 2 years ago Ray Winston was sitting at the table beside us in a Chinese restaurant but we didn't get to speak as he was engrossed in conversation. I nearly forgot Todd Carty aka Mark from East Enders used to use our local newsagent in the morning on way to Elstree again in the nineties, he was always very smiley and drove a little MG!

Gutted that Brookie Barry (Paul Usher) wasn't nice. He was one of my many teenage crushes!!!

Jean Paul Gaultier - such a delightful man
Marcus Wareing - charming man and very handsome up close

There's something really needy & pathetic about these threads.

So pathetic you had to comment on it? Or so pathetic you simply had to open it and comment? Grin

DH's cousin is a comedian so we get a lot of gossip from the circuit.
Allen Carr and Joe Lycett are lovely and really well thought of. Peter Kay is not. Hmm

I met Jack Whitehall after one of his shows very early on in his career. He was extremely down to earth and friendly and really lovely. Also so much taller than I had expected.

I met Matthew Fox and he was quite rude and grumpy.

And yet you had to comment.

Bette Midler and Nicholas Cage (work related back in the day) both rather shy, yet very polite.

In my experience it's the z listers that tend to be the wankers.

I bumped into Jeremy Paxman in the National Coal Mining Museum archives last year. He was researching a book about the economic significance of different parts of Britain. I was researching the coal mining history of a work site. I was wearing a logo’ed polo shirt of the government organisation I work for; he seemed inerestrf in what we were doing.

Gareth Thomas from Blake's 7. We spent an afternoon working together and became friends. He was lovely.
Jason Connery. We bumped into each other shopping one day, meeting at the end of each aisle (we were going up and down in opposite directions). I didn't clock who he was to begin with, just that he was gorgeous. We met fairly often after that.
Grant Stott. Just the other week he was in my shop, trying to persuade his mother to let him buy her something. He was very charming. He is very much a local celeb and he's John Leslie's brother.
Michael Byrne back in the 80s. He was an arrogant shit and so rude about Tim Curry, who had garnered all the attention and kudos on stage the night before.
Princess Anne, who was very down to earth and utterly correct about the shit standard of riding displayed by her then husband Mark Phillips. She appealed to me to corroborate her opinion, as I was standing watching him. I hadn't realised who she was (wasn't looking at her) and there were no security people immediately obvious.
Roy Hattersley. Saw him at King's Cross one time. I didn't speak to him.
Frazer Hines. He bought me a drink for my 21st birthday. He was in rep not long after he broke up with Gemma Craven and met us on a backstage tour and arranged to meet after the show to buy me a drink.

Have seen lots of celebrities. Of those I've met and spoken to -

Gordon Ramsay - absolutely lovely
Fiona Phillips - really nice and down to earth
Eamonn Holmes - charming and warm
Jan Leeming - sweet but slightly odd
Billy Connolly - smiley and funny
Jade Goody - incredibly smiley with beautiful skin and hair - sad at what happened later 🙁
Gregg Wallace - pains me to say it but he was very nice. Desperate to be recognised.

Caron Keating - snooty and rude
Nick Knowles - utterly obnoxious. Horrible, horrible man.
Richard Branson - sleazy

The lovely late Caroline Aherne. Met her in the loos at an awards ceremony. She was really sweet and told me that my dress was beautiful and how gorgeous I looked. I was quite insecure at the time and I felt a million dollars after that.

Ella Fitzgerald! That's amazing.

I have been too shy to speak to anyone famous I've seen.

The Duke of Edinburgh waved and laughed at me and my kids on one occasion. We did look funny, so I can't complain!

Pat Sharp at a Bryan Adams concert when I was 11. Got his autograph. Oh that mullet.
Served pizza to the drummer from Seal and he gave me tickets to his gig and backstage! I went to the gig but didn't go backstage, it was a bit pick-up-pey for me!
Barbara Windsor at an awards ceremony, Eastenders, lovely lady.
Gordon Brown, ex Prime Minister, shook hands, very smooth (hands).
Ashley Cole, footballer, he's so small! We were doing an activity round a table and he didn't say anything.
Romesh Ranganathan before he was famous, comedian, funny guy.
Floella Benjamin, playschool, quite nice and a little bonkers
Baroness Oona King, inspiring, cool person
Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London, very down to earth
Diane Abbott MP, not someone I would acquaint

My mum and I met Rufus Sewell on holiday when I was younger- he was there filming something, I think Helen of Troy? Anyway he chatted with us very nicely about the filming process, until my mum asked him if anyone famous was in it Blush

I knew Hayley Atwell, Jodie Whittaker and Michelle Dockery when we were all at college together. Haven't seen any of them since though and it's been a while! Also knew Orlando Bloom's sister that way so met him when he was dating Kate Bosworth (met her too at the same time). I also managed to make a complete starstruck idiot of myself in front of Ewan McGregor 😂

James Purefoy (really lovely and gentle and totally unaware how gorgeous he is)
Dave Johns (also lovely and so funny you can't breathe)
Daniel Craig (shy and stunning)
Mick Hucknall - tosser
Victoria Wood - a bit prickly but I liked her.
Carol Vorderman - saw me standing alone at a party full of slebs and came up to chat to me which has always made me think she's a good, kind person. Very friendly and jolly.
Matty Healy of The 1975. Very energetic. Sat on my knee (but was a child at the time.)
Twiggy - wow she looks gorgeous close up
Joan Collins - ditto. I was a few inches away from her, and she is so glamorous and polished I felt like a muddy sack of potatoes
Patricia Hodge - chilly. Kept literally looking over our shoulders to see if someone more important had arrived.
