I want to hear about your good or bad encounters with a celebrity/famous person please! In the late nineties I met the chef Ainsley Harriot at a London train station when I was cueing to buy a ticket! I was very excited about this and told him I loved the show Ready Steady Cook which he was on at the time, he was really nice and chatty but I didn't get his autograph though! More recently about 2 years ago Ray Winston was sitting at the table beside us in a Chinese restaurant but we didn't get to speak as he was engrossed in conversation. I nearly forgot Todd Carty aka Mark from East Enders used to use our local newsagent in the morning on way to Elstree again in the nineties, he was always very smiley and drove a little MG!

I sold a horse to Ian Paice (drummer from Deep Purple) who bought it for his wife Jackie. He was lovely, pulled out a wad of cash bigger than anything I'd ever seen before, and promised to give the horse a home for life. He did as well - he and his wife gave Joe a lovely life and when he died of old age, he was buried under his favourite tree in his paddock.

Lee Mack really nice bloke

He made fun of me at one of his gigs once. We'd booked a long time in advance and it had to be postponed, but for some reason, at the rescheduled gig (same venue), they didn't allocate the same seats, so I ended up on the front row - which I'd NEVER have chosen.

It was all good-natured, though. You could tell it was coming from a mischievous rather than a nasty place.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 22/04/2019 00:13

Jim Davison/ vile, rude arrogant and Pervy

Surely some mistake?! Why, that would be as outrageous as meeting a bear in the woods and sensing a very strong faecal odour....

MamTDM · 22/04/2019 00:17

Sandi Toksvig - our dog jumped up on her and she was absolutely lovely about it. We didn't quite twig who she was until we'd walked on though - about ten seconds later we both turned to each other and went 'Wasn't that...?'

James Dean Bradfield from the Manics - has a really lovely dog.

Neil Morrissey - was a good kisser back in the 80s Blush

I once sat in a chair in a pub that Mike Baldwin had just vacated. It was still warm.

w33ta8ix · 22/04/2019 00:17

Lots of politicians through work. Alistair Darling- lovely and very polite.
Mark Carney- very short!
David Blunkett - professional and pleasant.
George Osborne - when chancellor- surprisingly funny and laid back.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 22/04/2019 00:20

I once offered Feargal Sharkey a Murray Mint when we met him after a concert at the peak of his solo success (I was about 12).

He was touched, but very graciously declined. Presumably more of an Opal Fruit kind of bloke - very lovely, though.

EstuaryBird · 22/04/2019 00:22

I’ll give a second vote for Ian Paice, lovely guy.

I’ve met quite a few rock stars and musicians some nice and some nasty. I’m not going to out the nasty ones, oh well, maybe just one, Gene Simmons was not a nice person.

The one I always thought would be lovely and is an absolute joy would be Steven Tyler.

The one I was almost scared of meeting but turned out to be one of the nicest and kindest was Axl Rose (in 2014).

'Warm' is normal; so glad you didn't also add the dreaded M-word, though Grin

MagicKingdomDizzy · 22/04/2019 00:24

Joseph Fiennes - lovely. Met him at a play and he was so nice.
Neve Campbell - met her through work and she was lovely. Friendly and kind.
Stella Rimington - wonderful lady.

strawberrisc · 22/04/2019 00:26

Stephen Graham ❤️
Samantha Womack (Janus) was lovely
Stephen Gerrard was okay
Jamie Carragher was lovely
Stu Francis was grumpy. Definitely didn’t want to crush a grape
Pete Price was really nice
Chris Maloney was quite sweet
Tina Malone was chatty
Steve from Coronation Street was in a corridor at a hotel I was staying in. He was with his little child and had that “oh please don’t talk to me” look on his face so my Mum just said “ooh oh hello!” as we passed like he was her mate! 🤣
Same hotel was in a swimming changing room with Jorgie Porta. I felt like Bella Emberg. She’s so petite.

Ricky Tomlinson. Wish I’d never met him. He was stand offish and grumpy to the point of rude. I loved him so much in the Royle Family but I can’t watch it in the same way anymore.

Mum and Dad met Martin from Coronation Street and talked to him about his cheese! They said he was lovely (and passionate about cheese!)

I meet quite a lot of famous people through my job (private aviation security) By and large, my dealings with them have been positive. Ed Sheeran is the only one I've found to be a bit up himself, complaining that he shouldn't have to do security checks because he's so famous that he shouldn't be subject to the regulations. Funny, because I reckon Beyonce and Rhianna are more famous than him and they don't have an issue with it. I'd never cared for Bono but, in real life he's chatty, polite and friendly as are Alice Cooper, Dave Grohl and Rod Stewart. My favourites have been the guys from Iron Maiden and Ozzy Osbourne, they've come through quite a few times and are absolute gents. Hillary Clinton was lovely and I got a hug from Johnny Depp so the job has had its' upside. I'm about to move away and change jobs so my chance for meeting more celebs will be limited (although, come to think of it, I did meet Barack Obama and Annie Lennox at a charity function in Edinburgh in my last job so who knows?)

SchrodingersBrexit · 22/04/2019 00:33

Has anyone ever had a good experience with Amanda Holden? Grin She always pops up on these threads and it's never positive. I've also met her and she was pretty arrogant.

Dieu · 22/04/2019 00:34

A friend worked with Mila Kunis on an ad campaign, and said she was extremely difficult.

My uncle works in airport security, and said that the Coldplay lads - and their children - were very lovely and polite.

Dieu · 22/04/2019 00:35

To the previous poster, it is ALWAYS exactly the same with Cilla Black! Grin

WeMarchOn · 22/04/2019 07:26

@Livedandlearned i have met Murr twice and I'm sure @CharlieCoCo will agree with me, he is manic!! Doesn't stand still for one second 🤣🤣

Myheartbelongsto · 22/04/2019 07:52

Mariah Carey
Timothy spall
Bone Jovi loads

TigersRoll · 22/04/2019 08:04

Martin Clunes - he was a lovely, lovely man.
Dawn French - not so much!

TigersRoll · 22/04/2019 08:07

@EstuaryBird I’m so jealous that you’ve met the love of my life, Mr A Rose 🥀 ive heard he’s a lovely man ... unless you piss him off 😁

Fraxion · 22/04/2019 08:16

Paolo Nutini is close friends with my younger cousin. He is regularly at my auntie's house for his tea. Lovely and still very close to his old mates. He is exceptionally scatterbrained though.

He is a genuinely lovely guy, he was sitting next to us at an 'occasion' with his parents. Very down to earth. Went to one of his small gigs a couple of months later.

Can't think of anyone else but my husband and daughter have both met a lot of A listers through work.

SunshineP · 22/04/2019 08:19

Emma Thompson - very very loud but really lovely.
Cate Blanchett - lovely and incredibly beautiful.

Fraxion · 22/04/2019 08:20

Brookside Barry!!

Oh I've met him Grin and his sidekick Terry in a bar at Manchester airport when we were all waiting on a delayed flight.

Catchingbentcoppers · 22/04/2019 08:26

Oh I nearly forgot, I met Sophie Wessex a few years ago and she was SO nice. Really witty and just a really warm kind of woman. One of those people that you're really drawn to, I'd love to meet her again.

whyohwhyowhydididoit · 22/04/2019 08:26

I used to work in a very trendy electronics store in Regents St (long defunct). One day at lunch my very hip colleagues were teasing me about my love for Christopher Reeves who was then fit and healthy and at the peak of his fame starring in the Superman movies. Later that day someone nudgedme and there was the man himself walking through the shop. He was even more gorgeous in real life. I managed to stutter out a few words when I served him and also arranged for a cab for him and he was very polite. I was very sad that such a nice man had such a horrible accident and untimely death.

thiscannotbenormal · 22/04/2019 08:27

Anthony Horowitz - I could gush for hours
Romesh can't spell his last name - what a lovely, lovely guy.
