I want to hear about your good or bad encounters with a celebrity/famous person please! In the late nineties I met the chef Ainsley Harriot at a London train station when I was cueing to buy a ticket! I was very excited about this and told him I loved the show Ready Steady Cook which he was on at the time, he was really nice and chatty but I didn't get his autograph though! More recently about 2 years ago Ray Winston was sitting at the table beside us in a Chinese restaurant but we didn't get to speak as he was engrossed in conversation. I nearly forgot Todd Carty aka Mark from East Enders used to use our local newsagent in the morning on way to Elstree again in the nineties, he was always very smiley and drove a little MG!

Sylvester McCoy gave DS a sweetie at a SciFi convention. You have to queue up and pay to meet the celebs but we were just walking past and he said hi. DS had no idea who he was and has only recently got into Doctor Who. Also went to a convention where David Hasselhof was there, everyone who met him via the massive queue said he was lovely.

Elderflower14 · 24/04/2019 11:36

Have facetimed with Justin Fletcher and Samuel West when ds2 met them.
Ds2 met Noel Fitzpatrick at Crufts last month. He tried to ft me but I was eating my lunch and phone was on silent. Prob a good job I didn't as ds2. Told him I fancied him and wanted to marry him! BlushBlushBlushBlushBlush

I used to be cabin crew.

Brad Pitt - makes you feel like the only person in the room when you talk to him! Just lovely. Angelina was very sweet but a bit bonkers!

Taylor Swift is SO nice! Love her.

Sophia Loren - very gracious and beautiful.

Bonnie Tyler - didn’t say a word to me, spoke via her husband. Maybe she was just tired and she slept for most of the flight.

John Simm - very down to Earth and chatty.

Rose Leslie - tiny in real life! Very pretty and came across as quite shy, very polite and smiley though.

A relative was a lady in waiting to the Queen, I have a few of the Royal Family. Nothing exciting, they are all normal people!

IntoValhalla · 24/04/2019 12:57

I also bumped into Kit Harrington (from Game of Thrones) last summer - I live pretty close by. I’d heard that he was “vertically challenged” but didn’t realise quite how little he actually is until I was face to face with him....well I say face to face, was more like face to tit for him Confused
But he was very nice, recommended a local chutney to go with the cheese I was buying Grin

SleepingSloth · 24/04/2019 13:21

IntoValhalla

Vertically challenged ? Nice. Hmm

My friend met him, she's 5'7, she has a photo with him and he was taller than her by a couple of inches so probably average for a man in this country I would think. Maybe you are 'freakishly tall' if you think he is 'vertically challenged'... My friend has met lots of famous people through her work and said he was one of the nicest ever.

BasilFaulty · 24/04/2019 13:24

Amanda Holden, Vic Reeves and Cilla Black always come out so badly in these threads!

fdhvdn · 24/04/2019 13:31

But Kit Harrington IS vertically challenged. Nothing wrong with stating a fact.
And I still would
I think he's lovely

SleepingSloth · 24/04/2019 13:46

But Kit Harrington IS vertically challenged. Nothing wrong with stating a fact.

I've just looked, his height is recorded as just under 5' 9" which is what I would have guessed after being photographed with my slightly smaller friend. Average man in UK is apparently 5'9 so he would be very slightly under average.

DarlingNikita · 24/04/2019 14:04

Still working my way through but wanted to say I'm GUTTED about 'Armando Ianucci - a tosser' Sad I love his work.

Also, how sweet is Tricky?! 'Tricky came from back stage when he spotted DS dancing away enjoying the band that were on. He said said he couldn't not come and share DS's joy.' Smile

I've met

Joan Bakewell (impeccably dressed/groomed; utterly charming; want to be her when I grow up)

Graham Norton, some years ago when he was still on C4 and relatively cultish, not mainstream. Sweet, a bit shy, but funny and endearing, as on TV.

Bobby Charlton. Charisma central. A proper gent.

Paul Merton. Shy, quiet. Lit up when talking about comedy and its history; clearly absolutely loves it.

John Humphrys. The weapons-grade cunt you'd expect him to be, but possibly more so.

starfleet · 24/04/2019 14:29

James Purefoy was a twat. He dropped his boarding pass in front of me whilst going through security at the airport. I tried to pass it to him after I'd gone through but he was all rolling eyes and huffing. I just threw it at him and said 'you might need this'.

Jarvis Cocker - just lovely as was Shaun Ryder even though he was terribly drunk and fell over. Bez - bonkers. Met quite a few musicians as I used to work in a large concert venue.

I went to school with quite a few 'Northern' drama/soap actors. The guy who plays Cain Dingle in Emmerdale is the nicest bloke.

missteddy · 24/04/2019 14:31

@Polarbearflavour oh I'm so glad Brad Pitt is nice 😍 you lucky lady!

missteddy · 24/04/2019 14:32

Piers Morgan, went to his house for a garden party, he was very nice, as was his family!

Polarbearflavour · 24/04/2019 14:32

He’s gorgeous - inside and out! 🥰
How I would love to be Mrs Pitt!

LittleMissHappy19 · 24/04/2019 14:33

I'm still fuming at Phil and Holly Angry and Eamonn and Ruth are not really in love and are only together for money..fraudsters! My morning routine is ruined!

Yes I know I need to get a life..my DH tells me every morning 😂

TitilatedOcelot · 24/04/2019 14:49

Alison Steadman is lovely and very funny. Met her in a small hotel / restaurant and she was happy to sit and chat after dinner (we were on the next table).

Met Richard Harris in a pub pre Dumbledore and he was v charming and friendly.

Was groped by John McCrirrick while posing for a photo with him at the races many years ago - horrible man!

IntoValhalla · 24/04/2019 15:04

He makes jokes at his own expense regarding his height!! He also admitted that clever camera angles are used to make him appear taller in scenes with Sophie Turner because she’s a got a good few inches on him! Shes built like a supermodel after All! I’m 5’4”, and he definitely wasn’t more than an inch or two taller than me - DH is 6’2” and absolutely towered over him!

IntoValhalla · 24/04/2019 15:06

fdhvdn totally with you on that one!
I do usually prefer the taller gentleman...but Kit Harrington is beautiful Grin I’d still shag him. We are all the same height when we are lying down right?!!

Galaxy88 · 24/04/2019 15:43

Not directly, but a amusing story! My dh works for a company that's linked closely with EIS Sheffield the same place Anthony joshua trains at before big events.

Now, my dh's friend owns a flat the joshua was staying at during a training period just before xmas and when he left he left hundreds if not thousands of pounds worth of Xmas gifts for his family in the flat and returned back to Watford without them.

When the friend realised what had happened it was Xmas eve and AJ had asked friend to drive from Sheffield to Watford and said he'd be 'compensated' for his trouble especially as it was Xmas eve. The gifts were dropped off, but AJ promised he'd cover him for the petrol, hours in the car and kindness shortly.

Fast forward a few months and multiple run ins, AJ still didn't pay up! When he did, his agent threw 60 quid at him just to cover fuel! Now, I'm not saying he should have given him hundreds, but seen as he drove 4 hours each way and hand delivered he families Christmas gifts, you'd at least think he'd round it up to a straight hundred! Grin

Easterbunnyhashoppedoff · 24/04/2019 15:55

Lying down Kit would be just fine imo!!

starfleet · 24/04/2019 16:49

DSis met Brad Pitt. She said he was lovely and stopped for a chat even though his management were trying to move him along.

InTheHeatofLisbon · 24/04/2019 16:59

@Sexnotgender Broony called my eldest and sent a signed napkin home from a wedding with my SIL because she drunkenly told him that our cat died and that DS1 is a die hard Celtic fan (we all are).

I've never forgotten the kindness he showed to a wee boy who was in absolute bits over losing his cat, he still talks about the time his hero called to tell him how sorry he was. Love him! (I know he's a bit marmite to non Celtic fans 😂)

I've met a few Scottish celebs.

Robert Carlyle (when he was Hamish Macbeth not Begbie) and he was bloody lovely!

Tony Roper (Jamesie Cotter from Rab C) - pissed as a fart and utterly delightful with it (not being sarcastic)

Kenny Dalglish - reserved but faultlessly polite

Mhairi Black - not technically a celeb I guess but one of my major heroes! She didn't disappoint.

Martin O'Neill and his treble winning team - all lovely, but Jackie McNamara was especially lovely.

Elaine C Smith - funny as fuck

Seen a few Celtic players in my local area (funnily enough since I'm relatively local), and Kieran Tierney's auntie lives next door to my pal!

Oh Vince Vaughn asked me for directions in Edinburgh (pre Mr and Mrs Smith but still well known) and I must have looked ridiculous gawping at him!

But my all time favourites of any celebs I've ever met were Bertie Auld and the now late, great Billy McNeill. Two absolute legends within Celtic, and two of the most humble, genuine, just lovely men I've ever met.

(I'm aware most of mine will mean fuck all to most)

RasberryRoyale · 24/04/2019 17:31

Nice celebs I’ve met:
Simon Cowell (very nice, very charming)
Peter Capaldi (so nice, spoke with us for ages and told us he has family in my tiny little village also the man smells amazing!. I think my DH still resents that I got a hug and he didn’t)
3/4 members of Westlife. (Met them a few times and as much as it broke my teenage heart to admit it- Shane was incredibly rude on both occasions.)
Jimmy Carr (worked with him a few times- he’s surprisingly a very nice guy and even remembered me almost a year later)
The late Gerard Kelly (I used to do panto with him when I was younger)
Karen Dunbar, very funny woman.

Not so nice:
Elaine c Smith (again through panto, pain in the arse with a huge ego)
Amanda Holden. (Shouldn’t surprise anyone)

JBFletcherstypewriter · 24/04/2019 18:51

My sister used to work as a manager in a hotel where a lot of celebs would stay when in that particular city. She’s encountered Lady Gaga , said she was rude, ignored my sister when she asked her if she had enjoyed her stay, complained about a mob of fans waiting outside the front of the hotel but when offered the use of the back lift and exit, declined

Morgan Freeman, very ignorant she said and she was mega disappointed as had always been a fan

Glenn Close, said she was absolutely lovely

Olly Murrs, bit of a diva and had loads of instructions about the smoothies or shakes he needed for his diet?

Can’t think of any more, I haven’t really had any experiences myself although Phil and Holly walked right past me once and Holly looked like she had a tiny frame... I was a big fan of theirs until I read the previous posts in this thread, could barely watch them this morning on tv Sad

PolloDePrimavera · 24/04/2019 19:16

Anyone met Sara Cox? I love her and her warmth and humour but have never met alas.

mimimoo22 · 24/04/2019 19:29

Gary liniker - was very nice. Was very involved in childhood cancer charity’s. Did seem quite smarmy.
Sarah fugason ( Duchess of york) formal opening.
Steven Hawkings tried to run me over when I was a student, it was his hobby I think as everyone seemed to have a similar story back in the 90’s in Cambridge.
Katie price- actually quite nice.
Ester Ransom- Awful woman
Fiona Phillips - lovely, surprisingly gets nervous pre public speaking.
David Cameron- umm busy, always busy.
Samantha Cameron- A lovely person

Various pop stars, footballers etc but they just came into my work place for publicity/ phots etc rarely spoke to them all really.
