I want to hear about your good or bad encounters with a celebrity/famous person please! In the late nineties I met the chef Ainsley Harriot at a London train station when I was cueing to buy a ticket! I was very excited about this and told him I loved the show Ready Steady Cook which he was on at the time, he was really nice and chatty but I didn't get his autograph though! More recently about 2 years ago Ray Winston was sitting at the table beside us in a Chinese restaurant but we didn't get to speak as he was engrossed in conversation. I nearly forgot Todd Carty aka Mark from East Enders used to use our local newsagent in the morning on way to Elstree again in the nineties, he was always very smiley and drove a little MG!

Between me and a few members of my family:

Paul McCartney, lovely man.
Rowan Atkinson, funny and nice.
Westlife, ok but Mark was really nice and the most genuine.
Elle MacPherson, a very nice lady, incredibly beautiful.
Judith Chalmers, I wanted to take her home.
Ainsley Harriot, related to my friend and he definitely is very kind, nice and so happy.
Christopher Timothy, keeps a low profile, doesn't like to be noticed, however is very nice to children
Nicholas Lyndhurst, same as Christopher Timothy.
Warwick Davis, professional but comes across as standoffish although friendly enough.
Dame Tanni Grey Thompson, not very nice at all, seems extremely arrogant.
Jenson Button, again nice guy, wasn't so up himself back then.
Juan Pablo Montoya, funny man in a haha way.
Tamara Ecclestone and her husband are surprisingly normal and again polite and nice.

And I'm saving the last as a big shocker, Jeremy Clarkson. Absolutely lovely, Did a lot of work and contributed a lot financially for a cause involving a disabled child, it's never mentioned but he was absolutely wonderful.

Vernon Kay used to live in the next street to me when we were younger and before he was famous.
Paddy mcguinnes and his wife used to live close by too until they moved. I used to see him now and again in Tesco & his wife in the local post office.
I served peter kay with his mum and nan when I worked at Asda. I’ve met him quite a few times as he is from my area.
I’ve recently seen Tyrone from Corrie in next.
When I was younger I saw Sherrie Hewson and Russ Abbott in a cafe in Blackpool. They were having a right laugh!
Met westlife and Kerry Katona at a hotel in Manchester. They signed autographs.
Met Ryan giggs at a kids play area. He seemed very shy. It was around the time it had come out about him cheating on his wife and I jokingly said I was taking my daughter over to meet her real dad. He had his pic taken with us and was lovely.
Local rugby players and football players. Usually pointed out by my husband!
Faye windass from Corrie. Really lovely girl.
Saw charity from emmerdale a couple of weeks ago too walking around Kirkby Lonsdale.
Oh and Kirk from Corrie once stepped to one side to let my daughter and I pass him in river island.

"Lol at Amanda Holden being married to Jim Davidson. Now that's a marriage I'd love to be a fly on the wall for!"

Shed kill him............Grin

Incidentally one of the womens mags has run an article about nasty Reddit threads about her this week. Saw it while i was out.

Smellslikemiddleagespirit · 24/04/2019 01:00

I’ve met Ray Winstone - a proper gent, very lovely
Michael Sheen - very very lovely
Noel Edmonds - self important twat
Iain Banks - very lovely
Rhod Gilbert - very lovely
Katherine Jenkins - awful

DFIL met Princess Anne and was at dinner with her. He said she was interesting, witty and great fun.

Also, when I was 18 (late 80s) I shagged a soon-to-be-famous pop star a few times. Then he was suddenly busy in a whirlwind of pop things and I didn’t see him again. Good looking, kind and fun, but really loved himself.

AlexaAmbidextra · 24/04/2019 01:10

Oh, I forgot Barry Manilow. On tour over here and wanted to try fish and chips so stopped at a pub near me. He’s very strange looking in the flesh and seemed quite shy.

moon2 · 24/04/2019 01:13

I just tend to say hi and not intrude. Paul Daniels and his wife coming out of their roller on Brewer street on a night out. Vanessa Feltz dinner at yo sushi in London and a photo shoot with her handsome hubby. Liz Hurley and Hugh Grant, engrossed in conversation over dinner at a Moroccan restaurant in Kensington. James Brown at the American embassadors still looked remarkably young. Pam St. Clement at my local Tesco, Richard E. Grant photo shoot, TV chef Gary Rhodes outside the theatre on Charing Cross, cuter in person, Faithless DJ ing in Shoreditch while doing a photo shoot, cool as a cucumber. Many other DJ’s Spoonface photo shoot, lovely guy! Tunde from the Lighthouse family at a friends dinner party in an African restaurant, Ester Rantzen at school raising awareness for Childline and the Body shop in Hampstead after a face lift, very polite and pleasant lady, Johnathon Ross at school tómbola, all the teenage girls were mad about him and he was very gracious and patient ...more work related peeps I’m sure but can’t think of right now.

moon2 · 24/04/2019 01:27

Oh and Tony Hadley from Spandau Ballet in a pub in St Albans, still gorgeous. Stood next to him and I was totally tongue tied beyond hello. Loads of other people at PR shoots and not knowing who the heck they are but I just keep on shooting till I’m out.

pinkginplease · 24/04/2019 01:34

Discobabe98 · 24/04/2019 01:46

I met Nicola Coughlan (Clare from Derry Girls) last week

Discobabe98 · 24/04/2019 01:48

Fuck sake didn’t finish posting sorry.

Was at a meet and greet at a gay nightclub in Belfast lol, 90s disco theme in true Derry girls styleGrin Anyway she was completely lovely and talked to everyone like they were her friend, didn’t rush the queue at all and let my friend and I get a couple different pictures together and separately incase one of us looked good in one but not the other etc!

She was just a sweetheart in general and looked genuinely excited to be there

TheRugbyValkyrie · 24/04/2019 01:57

The late Richard Harris (wonderfully warm, witty gentleman)
Charles Grey (narrator in the rocky horror picture show)
Dennis Thatcher (a little "refreshed!)
Sarah Greene
Lorraine Chase
Clive Anderson
Most of mine are rugby related:
Micky "the munch" Skinner (hilarious), Nigel Owens (utterly wonderful with a fantastic singing voice), Sir Clive Woodward, George North (just yummy), Rob Andrews (a total arse)

olbndansmummy · 24/04/2019 06:38

Oh and swimmer adam peatty used to come into the deli where I worked for breakfast quite regularly. He W's absolutely lovely and funny.
And Anna soubry came in too I thought she was lovely but didn't talk politics with her!

olbndansmummy · 24/04/2019 06:39
  • was lovely
Lamaitresse · 24/04/2019 07:02

Just remembered that i’ve also met Mika backstage after a concert - just me and a couple of friends in his dressing room. He came across as pretty arrogant & like he couldn’t wait to get rid of us!
Also met the Kaiser Chiefs backstage, they were all absolutely lovely and very normal to chat to. Had all the time in the world for us, and Ricky took a fab selfie of him, me & dh 😍 Just lovely!

Lamaitresse · 24/04/2019 07:09

Oh...and the Queen 👑 when I was about 6 but I remember it more from the photo than the actual event. She was with my dad who was taking her around his school (big anniversary) and my embarrassing aunt pushed me and my bro forward with flowers for her. She couldn’t have escaped without talking to us 😂 Photo is still framed and on the wall at my dad’s house!

WeMarchOn · 24/04/2019 07:17

Have met Jason Manford and he is a really nice guy

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 24/04/2019 08:00

The trouble with me is that I wouldn't recognise most of the people mentioned in this thread if I saw them!

RosamundDarnley · 24/04/2019 08:17

Nicolas Cage - was incredibly surly - and it was in London when Captain Corelli’s Mandolin premiered (at the actual premiere!) so was very surprised

Luke Goss from Bros asked me if I knew who he was and did I want my photo taken with him (er, who? Oh go on then) I was too old to have been into Bros, hadn't recognised him either Grin if you have to explain who you are then give up... Shock

mando12345 · 24/04/2019 08:36

I've met and had a long chat with dom from dick and dom in the bungalow, we met in the park with our dogs and he had the cutest jack Russell. I was oblivious to who he was, my DH told me as we walked away. He was absolutely lovely.
My husband has met Michael winner through work, he said he was absolutely charming, a truly lovely man. Also met nigel havers through work and he was foul. Interesting to read other posters in this thread saying the same.

Frokni · 24/04/2019 08:49

Paul McCartney - Nanny job interview, he was quiet but very nice
Victoria Wood - neighbour of friend, kind, warm and funny
Ian McShane - Nanny job connection, kept to himself as did pick up for granddaughter but always acknowledged nannies and parents was very polite
Jimmy Carr - autograph and awkward chat after a show! He is clearly shy and nervous when doing things which are not rehearsed
Paul Weller- lived near him when i lived in London. Always said "good morning" when our faces became familiar after a while.
Martha Reeves - worked at a theatre where she performed was very cool and chatty

ReginaPhalangee · 24/04/2019 09:15

Paul Daniels tried to hypnotise me during a very random encounter where we stood and watched the Red Arrows perform along the coast; " You WILL get into my car!" He was very sweet and talked about Debbie sunning herself in the garden at home after playing golf.

GarthFunkel · 24/04/2019 10:12

@flowergrrl77 but wasn't she always losing Pippin?

ThelmaDinkley · 24/04/2019 10:13

Johnny Marr who was lovely and was really kind to my daughter, gave her his plectrum and had a nice chat with her. Very down to earth. Was very happy as adored him as a teen in The Smiths. Also from my previous job met William Roache (Ken Barlow) who was very nice and Robert Lindsay who was typically thespian but rather slimy. Came across Sarah Cox whilst in a pub with my friend and she was a bit of a cow and up herself which I was surprised about as always thought she seemed down to earth.

Sexnotgender · 24/04/2019 10:47

I’ve met jimmy Carr too, he was lovely.

LoadOfUtterBoswellocks · 24/04/2019 10:55

Have worked with Justin Fletcher before he was very well known and always found him great company, genuinely funny. he was just learning Makaton at the time and used to show us new signs he'd learned. He use to know the man who does the voice for Tony the Tiger too!

Met Jonathan Ross and got instant crush on him which lasted for several weeks. Ditto Dermot Mergahan (sp?). Was so star struck when I met Noel Fielding and Julien Barrett that I forgot how to shake hands.

Saw Terry Pratchett on the street once. Went up to him, took a deep breath, and turned away again without saying a word before scurrying off into the night. Wish I'd had the courage to say hello and how much we loved him.
