I want to hear about your good or bad encounters with a celebrity/famous person please! In the late nineties I met the chef Ainsley Harriot at a London train station when I was cueing to buy a ticket! I was very excited about this and told him I loved the show Ready Steady Cook which he was on at the time, he was really nice and chatty but I didn't get his autograph though! More recently about 2 years ago Ray Winston was sitting at the table beside us in a Chinese restaurant but we didn't get to speak as he was engrossed in conversation. I nearly forgot Todd Carty aka Mark from East Enders used to use our local newsagent in the morning on way to Elstree again in the nineties, he was always very smiley and drove a little MG!

I sat next to the Queen Mother during a meal at the Royal Show years ago. I was on treadmill in my local posh health spa and Frank Bruno next to me running. He said ‘hello mate’ nearly fell off the treadmill!

justasking111 · 23/04/2019 18:36

James Nesbitt in a lift, he was so lovely and friendly.

SadOtter · 23/04/2019 18:37

I met Tom Baker in a shopping center, I was wearing a scarf like his, he said 'nice scarf'. I was 12. It was awesome!
Jo Brand, in an alley behind a theatre while I was going to work, she was a bit snappy when I said excuse me please (coz she was in the way) but in fairness she looked pretty stressed at the time and did say sorry when I explained I wanted to get to the door behind her. I think she was trying to get 5 minutes peace and thought I was after a chat.

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 23/04/2019 18:38

I've met quite a number of famous footballers due to work and always said the bigger the star the friendly they were to the fans. The best experience was with Alan Shearer who basically told the press to piss off (but more politely) while he chatted to a young fan. Came close to meeting David Beckham who smiled at me from a distance when he realised I was staring at him! Oh the embarrassment!

Met Gaby Roslin once at a charity event and all she did was moan about her hair getting wet while doing photos outside, she never once mentioned or checked on the disabled boy sitting in a wheelchair waiting patiently. She's nothing like the cheery, smiley persona she portrays on TV. Went right off her.

BryonyBev · 23/04/2019 18:38

I met the historian Lucy Worsley back in January on a train in the Midlands. She was charming, and told a fellow passenger he had good taste when he told her he was a fan of her TV programmes. She ate a VERY large bowl of salad with lots of tomatoes.

I met Jim Davidson too, it was my 21st birthday, and was in a restaurant celebrating with friends. He obviously heard it was my birthday, and anonymously sent a bottle of champagne to my table...I managed to find out it was him that bought it, and went to say thank you. He was absolutely lovely.

looneyloo88 · 23/04/2019 18:39

The drummer from Foo fighters in top shop 🤷‍♀️😂

Ucannotbeserious · 23/04/2019 18:40

Neil and Glenys Kinnock on a train to Italy where the buffet ran out after a couple of hours of a journey of about 12 hrs. Lovely, both of them and he played rugby with all the kids the other end while we waited for cars to be off loaded.
Jonny Wilkinson. What a guy. Met him at a signing at twickenham. He was supposed to be gone by 8 for a dinner. We reached him in the queue with our kids at midnight after 6 hr wait. Lovely man gave everyone plenty of time, chatted and had a laugh with our star struck kids.
Annie Lennox on a plane who was fab and said my daughter was beautiful.
Arsene Wenger, lovely man
Jermaine Jenas lovely simple grateful
Jude Law short
Paul McCartney lovely
Brian May, nice

allthingsred · 23/04/2019 18:41

Sinitta- really really lovely

Twinmumuk1981 · 23/04/2019 18:44

I've met a few people through taking the twins to comic cons, so generally everyone there is making a decent amount of money from autographs/photo sessions, know fans will generally be fawning all over them and also have to spend hours and hours trying to make sure every fan still gets that 'special' experience, so it's interesting to see how they all deal with it. Also as I have identical twins generally dressed up identically in dr who cosplay, they are generally memorable and if we've met anyone twice, they tend to remember them...
Sylvester McCoy: very cool and friendly, asked the boys about their sonic screwdrivers, had a conversation that he didn't have one when he played the doctor.
Pearl Mackie: (Bill from Dr Who): her first comic con, she was really excited, it was a small con and she spent ages talking to the boys, then remembered their names and picked them out of the crowd at the Q and A. Saw her at another huge con and she still remembered them...
Tony Curran: We only knew him from playing Van Gogh in Dr Who, he leapt over the table to take a pic with the kids and asked for a pic for himself to put on Instagram. At his Q and A, he kept apologising to me for the adult content of all his other movies etc.
Matt Smith: could easily be the doctor in real life, jumps around all over the place, massively friendly considering he was swamped with fans.
Peter Capaldi: after saying he didnt like sonic screwdrivers in his Q and A, the boys were worried he wouldnt pose with them for their photo shoot, but he was really great with them and did a cool pose, again super swamped with fans.
Jason Mamoa: No words for him, him and John Barrowman probably best meet and greets ever!
David Tennant: met him at stage door for Don Juan In Soho, short but sweet, felt like he was in a hurry to be elsewhere, then met him again at a comic con, he made a point to be friendly to the kids, joked to them "and where did you two meet?" (Obviously I fell about laughing as I have a huge crush on him...)
David Duchovny: very quiet, but warm

bookworm9229 · 23/04/2019 18:45

Simon Le Bon. Anout 20 years ago served him at restaurant. Gave me a big tip and at the end of my shift
invited me to join him Yasmin and the rest of Duran Duran. They were songing and using the cutlery as instruments. I was singing Rio and only knew a bit of the chorus. Simon Le Bon laughed his head off and said
“Not a Duranie then! “
Piers Morgan. Funny kind hilarious.
David Gandy. Had baby in arms with a little dog at his feet. My dog met his dog and we chatted about babies
David Beckam. My dog met his dog. We had a dog conversation and I pretended that I didn’t know who he was.
Jason Donovan Sat next to him at a birthday pretended i didn’t know who he was. He was very modest
Carol Vordeman. Very pleasant

Ucannotbeserious · 23/04/2019 18:47

Oh and Frank Lampard who stopped for a photo with my son, lovely guy
Jeremy Clarkson arse but afraid I still like the show knowing that.

Ucannotbeserious · 23/04/2019 18:51

Cherie Blair lovely, funny, lots of funny stories

moglovesredroses · 23/04/2019 18:51

The actress Polly James. Truly lovely lady.

EdWinchester · 23/04/2019 18:52

Chris Evans - twat

I have not et him, but my friend has through work and was once a guest on his phone in on r2. Anyway - he has always said what a great guy he is.

Wingingit247 · 23/04/2019 18:52

We used to hang out with Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osborne when I was little. I had my ears pierced with his daughter and can still remember his house with all the discs on the wall. Ozzy was absolutely nuts, still is, my mum has fond(?) memories of him up a tree with a crossbow and everyone else scattering before they got a bolt in the bum!

EdWinchester · 23/04/2019 18:52

*met

Relightmyfire2017 · 23/04/2019 18:52

I was lucky enough to be part of a choir that sang on a charity single with Ken Dodd 30-odd years ago.
Fast forward to 2012 and my mum was admitted to a home with a small hospice attached after being diagnosed with terminal cancer. After a really upsetting day I went for a walk to find Doddy enthralling the pensioners with a note perfect rendition of "Happiness" in the main lounge. His brother was a resident. It brought tears to my eyes. My mum died a couple of days later.
He was a legend (and so was my mum) ❤️

Elderflower14 · 23/04/2019 18:53

I've told this story lots of times before. I went to an auction at Christies. Was gawping around and a man in the row in front of me turned round and gave me a gorgeous smile. I thought to myself that he looked like David Bowie. I looked again and saw two different coloured eyes. It WAS David Bowie!!! I was so shocked that I slid down my chair in shock and he found that most amusing!
Keith Floyd spent the weekend at my Mums B and B. He asked my sister for a mallet to shut me up.
Joan Hickson filmed a Miss Marple in our kitchen. She was lovely.
Gaby Roslin was lovely when I filmed with her.

Caplin · 23/04/2019 18:54

Due to my work I meet loads. Some that stand out:

Recently met George and Amal Clooney. They were lovely, he is just happy to make time for everyone. I fell in love with her a bit.

Emma Thomson, incredible, so lovely.

Gordon and Sarah Brown - intense

Christopher Biggins - my all time fave, he is wonderful

Judy Murray - such a nice lady

Rafa Nadal - shy and lovely

Leonardo Dicaprio - boring and a bit of an arse

Towie people - mostly quite sweet, no idea who any of them were

Alecia Dixon - so friendly

Olly Murs - ditto

Kirsty Wark - scary, but a total pro

I could go on. I find most are lovely.

Caplin · 23/04/2019 18:55

Almost forgot Richard Branson, he was quite inspiring

SlaaartyBaaardFaaast · 23/04/2019 18:55

Oooh and Simon Reeve ... very tasty. I went all fan girl on him.... Cringed at myself afterwards.

puppy23 · 23/04/2019 18:57

The Queen: I was only about 2/3 at the time so don't remember but there is a vid on YouTube and apparently I tried to wander into her car after giving her flowers.

Ranvir Singh & Gordon Burns: Don't remember much again but I know I was one person away from briefly being on TV. Refound their autographs recently.

I served Shay Given loads in my last job. Sometimes he could be alright, others a bit off. Seemed like a good Dad though.

outpinked · 23/04/2019 18:57

A friend of mine works on celeb juice and Holly willoughby is a rude cunt so not surprised other people have found the same. Fearne Cotton is lovely though, heard this from that friend and also a DJ friend. Leigh Francis is also nice and surprisingly very shy.

A relative works on Emmerdale and most of the cast are lovely but Debbie and Zack Dingle (not sure what they’re really called) are twats apparently.

I met Shaun Williamson, Chico, Michael Barrymore and McFly years ago, all were lovely.

BumpIntheNite · 23/04/2019 18:59

Holly & Phil - I've heard are horrible in real life too, but that's second hand from a friend, not my own experience.
