I want to hear about your good or bad encounters with a celebrity/famous person please! In the late nineties I met the chef Ainsley Harriot at a London train station when I was cueing to buy a ticket! I was very excited about this and told him I loved the show Ready Steady Cook which he was on at the time, he was really nice and chatty but I didn't get his autograph though! More recently about 2 years ago Ray Winston was sitting at the table beside us in a Chinese restaurant but we didn't get to speak as he was engrossed in conversation. I nearly forgot Todd Carty aka Mark from East Enders used to use our local newsagent in the morning on way to Elstree again in the nineties, he was always very smiley and drove a little MG!

I had the misfortune of bumping into Chris Eubank quite often as he used to 'hang round' the road I worked down in Brighton. He took a shine to me and used to always try and talk to me as he knew that I had no interest in him or he's status and that seemed to make him more persistent! Confused

John Sentamu, before he was Archbishop of York. Had afternoon tea with him at my Mum’s house. She knew him through the church. Lovely, gentle man.

LittleMissHappy19 · 23/04/2019 18:10

@Jessie94 nooooo!! How annoying! Why did you have to write your first comment 😂

I wish I was your friend in real life!

SlaaartyBaaardFaaast · 23/04/2019 18:16

At separate times... I have met:

Andy Cairns (Lead singer of the band Therapy?)
Mylene Klass (twice, weirdly)
Jeff Brazier
Chris Gentry (ex Menswear fame... 90s Britpop band)
And a few other Z listers.

And my most favourite and impressive for me ... Mike McCready (Pearl Jam guitarist) Smile

Bill Clinton when he was visiting the Uk when he was no longer President. That man has southern charm by the bucket load. He acts as though every word you utter is fascinating and you feel like there’s nobody else around. And that voice. As you can tell, I was very taken with him. 😂

babyno5 · 23/04/2019 18:17

The Dalia Lama in a hotel lift. I was very hungover but you could really feel his aura. I also attended the television Baftas a few years ago. Was very bizarre walking up the red carpet with Barbara Windsor in forint and Graham Norton begins and washing hands in the loo next to Patsy Kensit 😂

Mary54 · 23/04/2019 18:19

The Queen Mother, when I was a child. We talked about guinea pigs, having met at a livestock show where I was exhibiting long haired guinea pigs and she was exhibiting chickens. She seemed very interested in the whole grooming/ preparation process
Also represented a well-known rock star in court but cannot name them 🙁

Tigerlilly17 · 23/04/2019 18:19

I’ve met a few:
Ryan giggs at the airport a few weeks ago who was lovely and posed for pics with my son,
Pen and teller in Vegas after a show
Back street boys at a promo evening in Vegas at the sugar factory,
Chris kamara off the football match show
Got very close to Channing Tatum in LA, but didn’t actually speak to him .
Met Alex Ferguson
And a few famous book authors.

Plentyapollo · 23/04/2019 18:21

Grace Jones in New York just after she had slapped Russell Harty... cockney!!! taxi driver shouted out... ‘don’t mess with her she’ll ‘fackin’ drop ya’ more interested in English taxi driver working in NYC!

inlectorecumbit · 23/04/2019 18:22

Wow l skipped a few pages to give support to Marti Pellow and Eileen Catterson.
I lived beside Eileen's parents and both her and Marti were regular visitors. Both very chatty and friendly with not a hint of bullying/ standoffish etc.
However l did have to check that l wasn't somehow related to Dieu Paulo Nuttini is an arse. Don't have a good word to say about him and l have met him too many times to count through family events.

Ruby143 · 23/04/2019 18:22

Tony Robinson back in pub restaurant I worked in the 1990's. He had walked through to the loo's and his wife/agent ordered tea. I didn't realise it was him until I put the tea tray down and he looked up and smiled and said thank you very much. Star struck I wobbled away without saying anything.

Bignosenobum · 23/04/2019 18:22

I met Terry Waite in a private visit he made to Styal prison. Wonderful man.

ToftyAC · 23/04/2019 18:23

I live in bumfuck nowhere so never meet anyone. The only person even remotely well known I ever met was Ian Beale from Eastenders. He signed my hand and was a bit of a supercilious arse.
My nan met Harrison Ford and Callista Flockhart. They hired a canal boat from the wharf next to her house. Said they were a lovely couple! Was gutted!!!

DestinyofDisaster · 23/04/2019 18:24

I bumped into Stuart Wolfenden aka Mark Casey from Corry at a bank and he politely apologised, even though it was my fault 😑
I’ve also met Sue Davaney aka Debbie Webster from Corry many moons ago whilst shopping and got chatting over a handbag haha.
I’ve met and had drinks with Julie Goodyear many times, she’s funny, down to earth and doesn’t take herself seriously. I was even fortunate to meet Tony Warren, he was a lovely guy. I was at high school with Debbie Rush aka Anna Windass - she really is beautiful inside and out.

I’ve met Peter Kay in a shop with his son. But I’ve seen him quite a few times as he doesn’t live far from me. I’ve met Bobby Ball, used to frequent his club many moons ago.

My daughter’s met Paddy Mcguinesss, Kirk and Rosie Webster from Corry - during a stint in a retail job.

One of my employees cousins is Shane Ward, but I’ve never met him 🙁

Jebuschristchocolatebar · 23/04/2019 18:25

Bono drinks in one of my locals! He is very nice and keeps a low profile but I think Irish people are very relaxed about celebrities in general. Served Martin Clunes breakfast in his hotel room years ago when I worked in a very fancy hotel. Nick Cave spilled a drink over me and bought me a new one in a pub in Ireland once.

babyno5 · 23/04/2019 18:26

@inlectorecumbit Marti Pellow stopped his car to let me and my youngest son cross the road in Dumbarton in the early 90's. I nearly tripped over my feet I was so star struck 😂😂

Nobodyisperfect · 23/04/2019 18:27

So this is a combination of people I have met and family have met
Tom Hanks-Loveliest man ever
Bryan Adams-Also lovely and such a joker
Cliff Richard-not lovely, full of his own self importance. Plain rude actually.
Terry Pratchett-really stuck up and rude, didn’t warm to him at all and I was a child
Craig David-Actually really nice but this was in the early days of his career
Tom Hardy-Lovely and friendly. Both my brother and I have met him at Legoland at different times, I just said hi and he smiled but my brother got photos with him
Pauline Quirke-Long time ago but really nice
Gary Lineker-stuck up
Louis Theroux-polite but very reserved
Steve Jones-Really friendly and down to earth
Martin Clunes-Very friendly and genuinely cares about who he speaks to
Nicky Campbell-totally up his own bottom
Ardal O’Hanlon-Just so nice, easy to talk to, seemed a bit shy actually

Met quite a few politicians but boring really. Seen more famous people but not had the courage to go up and say hello in other circumstances.

DestinyofDisaster · 23/04/2019 18:28

OMG I forgot to add, Michael Buble touched my hand as he was passing me at a concert Shock

WaxOnFeckOff · 23/04/2019 18:29

Paul McCartney and his wife, David Essex

I misread this and thought "WHAT!!!! Paul McCartney and David Essex were married!!" :o

WaxOnFeckOff · 23/04/2019 18:30

Elaine C Smith (Scottish comedian/actress - Rab C Smith etc) was my teacher at school - she was lovely.

Ohhellothereladyface · 23/04/2019 18:30

Met Timmy Mallet and Wolf from Gladiators as a child. Remember Wolf being particularly nice.
In my adult life met Princess Beatrice (seemed nice)

EdWinchester · 23/04/2019 18:30

Prince Edward - dull, dull, dull.

rachelharassment · 23/04/2019 18:31

I met Bob Dylan and he was amazing very patient with the precocious younger me. I was also lucky enough to be introduced to and have lunch with Maya Angelou, whilst she was doing an event in Liverpool. She was generous with her time and gave me some wonderful advice.

Less positive encounters have to have been Malcolm Maclaren, Winnie Mandela and Gil Scott Heron. All rather rude and in Gil Scott Heron's case a bit creepy and massively disappointing.

Ohhellothereladyface · 23/04/2019 18:31

Just remembered I also served Jim Davidson as a teenage waitress, and he was actually very polite.

DestinyofDisaster · 23/04/2019 18:33

When my uncle was a window cleaner he was good friends and had keys to the houses of Ron Atkinson and a couple of the members of 10cc. He also rubbed shoulders with other celebs but would never divulge any goss!!
