I want to hear about your good or bad encounters with a celebrity/famous person please! In the late nineties I met the chef Ainsley Harriot at a London train station when I was cueing to buy a ticket! I was very excited about this and told him I loved the show Ready Steady Cook which he was on at the time, he was really nice and chatty but I didn't get his autograph though! More recently about 2 years ago Ray Winston was sitting at the table beside us in a Chinese restaurant but we didn't get to speak as he was engrossed in conversation. I nearly forgot Todd Carty aka Mark from East Enders used to use our local newsagent in the morning on way to Elstree again in the nineties, he was always very smiley and drove a little MG!

I drank G&Ts on a train between Edinburgh and Troon with Magnus Magnusson. Desperately tried to re-awaken my intelligence that trip.

Served Bowie and Iman olives and red wine, he was absolutely magnetic and she is divine.

Princess Diana, she was lovely, spent 20 mins talking to the Duchess of York in a stairwell she was funny, chatty and gorgeous. I worked for Ally Mcleod the Scottish football manager and his wife they were both lovely genuine people. I met Philip Scofield.

Ucannotbeserious · 23/04/2019 19:02

Maggie Smith gave my DH a lovely smile as she walked towards him in the street. He asked me if we knew her, he had no idea. Lovely

Caplin · 23/04/2019 19:02

Tell you who was an epic knob, Dane Bowers. He talked all they way through an award ceremony for amazing young people (bit like Pride of Britain). When my friend asked him to be quiet he threatened to lamp him. So I banned him from all future events.

Nicola McLean was also a hot mess. Arrived to an event paralytic drunk and had to be packed off when she started screeching obscenities.

RoisinXena · 23/04/2019 19:03

What always thought Holly has a diva vibe about her..but Phil Shock

BearSoFair · 23/04/2019 19:06

Greg Proops - absolutely lovely, really down to earth, always takes time to talk to people after shows. Haven't been able to see him since 2014 though.

Frank Turner - really nice, queued over 2 hours to meet him at a signing last year and he was still jumping up and hugging every person, posing for photos, taking the time to have a proper chat etc.

Sean Pertwee - Not rude but didn't seem like he was really interested in seeing people. At a convention, so it wasn't like people were interrupting his private time. But it was the very end of the day and he was saying to the staff member at his table how he wished he'd worn his glasses as contacts were irritating his eyes, so that probably didn't help!

I’ve met a lot of famous people over the years. I’d say the most memorable one was Oliver Reed. I was about 11/12..... so 1982ish...waiting in the bar area at Guernsey Airport before our flight home. Man sitting at bar....... dad gave me money to get a lemonade so I went and plonked myself down on a chair at the bar next to the man..... I’d seen Oliver... the film..... I knew who who he was.... he said hello..... I got my lemonade..... he raised his glass to me and said cheers..... looked to side of me and his young wife was sat at a table watching him and rolling her eyes!! Never forget it. Great man. Made my holiday

Jaded1 · 23/04/2019 19:08

Bill Clinton, handshake, extremely charismatic. Gordon Brown, very nice genuine man. Tony Blair, charismatic and very genuine. Gerry Springer, very polite almost apologetic for existing at all. Debbie Harry, low key. Roger Moore, so lovely, Alan Rickman, stunningly lovely and charismatic. Al Pacino, low key. Lots of lower profile ones who were perfectly nice.

mummymayhem18 · 23/04/2019 19:10

I've met Dermot O Leary when I worked in Sainsbury's in Colchester about 14 years ago. Danced with Black Lace on stage on my birthday to Agadoo!! 🤣

Caplin · 23/04/2019 19:12

Just looking at what others have said.

Terry Prattchett - I met him a few times and he was always really nice

Prince Edward - he amazed me when we were introduced and he had really done his homework, knew all about the work I was doing. He did it for everyone in the room (about 30). He was very charming, as was Prince Charles.

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 23/04/2019 19:21

Rod Stewart and Bruce Forsyth at Malaga Airport (not at the same time)

  • both lovely and chatty. Bruce looked after our luggage when we went to duty free!
LouH1981 · 23/04/2019 19:23

I used to work with Gok Wan’s sister and he used to come in to our office sometimes.
At a separate work place, (a shop) the lead singer of The Stereophonics came in and bought some chocolates. I also met Geoff Capes (Worlds Strongest Man off the 80’s) in a local sports shop.
All lovely 😊

SW6mama · 23/04/2019 19:23

A friend and I rather randomly ended up going to an after-party with Prince Harry and his friends. He kissed me and my friend on the hand when we met in a truly princely style and we danced and chatted and he ordered us (rather than paid for) drinks all night. Witnessing a slice of his private life made fascinating viewing and by the time we left I very sorry for him.

mimarbia · 23/04/2019 19:23

Idris Elba before he was really famous, he was in Crocodile Shoes 2 and I was an extra, he was lovely, really chatty and down to earth, a complete opposite to Jimmy Nail who was the star of the show and one of the most unpleasant people I have ever met.

I’ve also met Robson Green, he was pleasant enough and we saw Quentin Tarantino when we were in New York but were too afraid to approach him!

LouH1981 · 23/04/2019 19:25

Argh, totally forgot...The Princess Royal was officially opening the maternity unit when my son was born so she came round to meet some of the new arrivals including us. She was so lovely and seemed genuinely interested in our experience of the unit and it’s services.

I was on a course for a week with Chris Hughes from Egg heads once (not just him obviously !) he's quite an odd man. rather bitter about things he should have let go many years ago, and a bit anti social. Not nasty, but strange.

I've met Ian Mckellen several times - he is a very nice man, and completely charming.

Jacqueline Wilson - a lovely woman. Unlike some other childrens' authors who shall remain nameless.

LouH1981 · 23/04/2019 19:31

@itwaseverthus - oooh very envious of your David Bowie encounter! My hero ever since the Labrynth days. Just gutted I never got to see him live. I bet he really was ‘magnetic’! 😊

Kitobi · 23/04/2019 19:32

Met Dawn French with Lenny Henry she was a patient at the hospital I worked for. They both were amazing. I did 10 years in the army and A few years later after I was promoted 100 Sgts were invited to meet the queen as part of the 100 year anniversary my regiment was celebrating. She was very kind and sweet. Obviously fed up shaking 100 sets of hands but I was chuffed lol

katseyes7 · 23/04/2019 19:33

My ex used to work backstage in tv, theatre and film. He spoke very highly of James Nesbit, said he used to remember the names of all the crew, even stopped my ex as they passed on the stairs to ask how his mum was (she was terminally ill).
ln the theatre - he worked on a production of Singing in the Rain with Tommy Steele (one for the oldies!) and said he was so vile to the stage crew they all went up and peed in the water tank before the finale.
Apparently Jim Davidson turned up at the theatre (pantomime, l think) was disgustingly rude and started swearing and ordering people about because the set wasn't ready. The theatre manager told the crew to start packing it up and put it back in the lorry, and told JD he wasn't welcome in the theatre if he was going to talk to people like that. He made him apologise to the crew, and they had no more trouble from him after that.
Actress Susan Penhaligon - they used to chat away on twitter, he'd worked with her once, years before and she remembered him. She was lovely. Very down to earth.

Lacypants · 23/04/2019 19:33

Peter Beardsley cut in front of me in a Sainsbury's queue so I called him a cunt. He ignored me.

2184Susan · 23/04/2019 19:34

Once saw Pierce Brosnan when I was in America - was going to go up to him but he told another lady to 'bog off.' Think this was around the time his wife died so I don't really blame him
