I want to hear about your good or bad encounters with a celebrity/famous person please! In the late nineties I met the chef Ainsley Harriot at a London train station when I was cueing to buy a ticket! I was very excited about this and told him I loved the show Ready Steady Cook which he was on at the time, he was really nice and chatty but I didn't get his autograph though! More recently about 2 years ago Ray Winston was sitting at the table beside us in a Chinese restaurant but we didn't get to speak as he was engrossed in conversation. I nearly forgot Todd Carty aka Mark from East Enders used to use our local newsagent in the morning on way to Elstree again in the nineties, he was always very smiley and drove a little MG!

Is it just me who wants the reasons why the celebs weren't nice?

I used to work in a private hospital in London. As far as I am concerned when you are in hospital you can be as cranky as you want. You are there for medical treatment just like anyone else and you may be in pain or recovering from a procedure.

I am impressed by the ones who were nice.

Outside of work, I have met Penn and Teller, twice. I was having a drink in a bar in Wolverhampton when the Krankies came in for lunch, I did a double take because I'm 5ft 0 and Jannette Crankie only comes up to my shoulder. I'm not used to being tall.

My dad used to be a drinking partner of the physio to a Football Club. Occasionally I would see him at the hospital I worked at and say hello, he would be there with a footballer or two who nine times out of ten would look at me with the, "I'm a footballer, recognise me" look. I have zero interest in football so no idea who they were.

I saw Sam Neil in a rural New Zealand shop (buying his lotto ticket!) as a teenager years ago, he smiled at me! Made my absolute week as growing up in rural NZ the only 'celebrity' you see is a rugby player lol

Met Sophie Wessex who was v lovely.

I know Dannii Minogue had a reputation in the 90s for a bitch (to be fair, looking back at the horrific stuff about her in the tabloids I can see why) but met her when she was on the X factor and she was nice.

FirstDateHelpForOldie · 23/04/2019 10:12

Yeah I'd understand in a hospital celebs not up for selfies I was more on about in public places and why they weren't nice

Blueberrybell · 23/04/2019 10:36

Danniella Westbrook hoovering up some cocaine in a local pub. Looks awful in real life- her face is completely sort of caved in.

Peaches Geldof on the train not long before she died. Very petite and pretty.

Erm ... Terri Seymour (Simon Cowells ex) in the changing rooms at the Oxford Circus Top Shop a while back.

Prince Charles - very short but quite charming.

I snogged Calvin Harris about 15 years ago 😂😂

Sweetpea55 · 23/04/2019 11:03

Collided with Lionel Ritchie coming out of a lift in a hotel in Jersey.
Tommy Turgoose (GOT) is a friend of my grandson

SuePollard sang Happy Birthday to my daughter and bought her a drink

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 23/04/2019 11:25

I walked past one of the cheeky girls.
Don’t know which one grin

Apparently, despite their express invitations to the contrary, they don't actually like it if you touch their bums Grin

I've just remembered the time when my sister saw Jim Bowen in a hotel bar and he was actually having a drink. I don't want to speak out of turn, but I think we can probably close the thread now as we've so clearly reached the top of Celebrity-Spotting Everest with that.

SuePollard sang Happy Birthday to my daughter and bought her a drink

I simply cannot hear her name without imagining the evil grease-based nemesis of Supertato Grin

Butterfly98 · 23/04/2019 11:50

Re Holly Willoughby, someone I know met her once and found her to be stuck up and rude! I was surprised to hear this as I always thought she came across on tv as so nice and friendly! I thought this was bitchy btw but she said her hips are huge in real life despite losing weight!

Haven't read the full thread but another for me is Micky Flanagan absolute lovely guy

anitagreen · 23/04/2019 11:56

@Butterfly98 my granddads daughter met her at a recording of celebrity juice and said she is so rude and cold and it's all an act.

anitagreen · 23/04/2019 11:59

Oh my god forgot about the time we stalked Anthony Worral Thompson when we was drunk at a cheese fair felt awful the next day but he was really rude to my dad when he tried to first speak to him during the day sober, so a few hours later he followed him around shouting wozza feel quite bad now .

Butterfly98 · 23/04/2019 12:01

Yeah @anitagreen her public persona is so smiley and giggly all the time, it seems such a contrast to what we've heard! I just looked at her insta, she comes across as trying too hard not to look vain!

@Butterfly98 that's exactly it lol I was shocked at first but now not so much I reckon Phillip is really nice !

JustDanceAddict · 23/04/2019 13:25

Whoever mentioned that celeb Covent Garden thing in the late 80s it must have been - I was there!! Got loads of autographs - now that would be complete chaos but I don’t think celebrity was such a big thing then. A lot of comedians were there if I remember rightly!
I also met Victoria Wood in a cafe when my kids were small - she was lovely - I was gutted when she died :-(

BigSandyBalls2015 · 23/04/2019 13:35

I was on a flight with Jedward once ..... I know you're all deeply jealous.

anitagreen · 23/04/2019 13:49

@BigSandyBalls2015
I can still remember how they introduced themselves on that show, Hi I'm John I'm Edward and together we're Jedward Grin

LoudestRoar · 23/04/2019 14:16

I was doing London Marathon last year, and spotted Ian McKellan watching. Had to double back to say hello!

Amy22 · 23/04/2019 17:32

Gazza when I was 18 on a girls holiday in Cyprus, he was lovely!
Gary Lucy of previous Hollyoaks/footballers wives fame, also quite nice but was in a club where he was paid to come so obviously had to play nice!
Also several actors from American TV show Pretty Little Liars at a couple of conventions I took my daughter too, they were absolutely lovely also, Troian Bellisario imparticular.
Few local footballers but of no note to anyone unless they're from round here or are super keen on low league football!!!

Bottletopsx · 23/04/2019 17:34

I had breakfast with Peter Cook in an hotel. A drink with Tony Robinson, shook hands with Ranulph Fiennes, spoke to Neil Armstrong, walked past Ken Dodd, sat next to Miriam Margolyes, spoke to Jean Alexander, has a drink with Spandau Ballet, had a drink with Ruby Wax and had the door opened for me by Gordon Brown.

Jessie94 · 23/04/2019 17:35

I work as a nanny and there have been a few VIP/high profile families I've worked for :)

Theoldwrinkley · 23/04/2019 17:39

We met Miriam Margolyse (spelling?) at the National Theatre. Trying to find somewhere to sit (I am challenged on the mobility aspect) but all tables had 4 chairs round for pre-performance drinks, with only 1 person at the table. She was the only one to offer a seat/share her table. What a lovely lady. Very down to earth. No ‘luvvieness’ about her.
Husband and son (do they count?) in Prague at moment, had a drink with Michael Portillo....invited as only other English speakers in the ‘train’ restaurant. Very pleasant.

AnnieKenney · 23/04/2019 17:39

Quite a few over the years but the one I really treasure was having breakfast with Desmond Tutu. Very charming and really down to earth.

Cantfindafreeusername · 23/04/2019 17:42

I work in TV so meet famous people daily. it’s usually the ones you think that will be lovely that aren’t 😉 my personal fav is David Jason - a true gentleman through and through
