To be disappointed with this gift?

Name changed because I don't want to look like an ungrateful cow.

I have a young toddler and im also about to give birth, and I was very kindly bought a double stroller as a recent birthday gift (I didn't ask for it, it was suggested as they knew i needed one and I graciously accepted because my son isn't a reliable walker yet and I was going to need one regardless). They chose the pram. In terms of size, structure and practicality it just doesn't work for me and I'm gutted because it was a gift.

It has arrived and I don't know whether I'm being a hormonal idiot or just being practical but it's just too big and bulky.

I don't have ample space for it even when folded down as my flat is very compact. It's extremely heavy, hard to turn and I can see it being a problem on transport due to it's size.

I don't drive at the moment so rely heavily on busses and tubes to get around.

I feel terribly guilty for not being happy with it. It looked relatively lightweight online, at least alot more so than in person.

I also don't think it's the most practical for a newborn?

Can I have some thoughts please, or a mumsnet kick up the arse for being an ungrateful cow. Link below

I think the only way to know you’ve chosen the right buggy for you is to go and try it out somewhere. It’s so hard to know just from looking online at pictures and stuff.
But, personally, I love and trust the Baby Jogger range

ballsdeep · 22/04/2019 09:19

You're not happy with it. You will. End up buying another one anyway so just tell tjem

Well to bring the thread to a resolution I'm happy to say it's all sorted, the seller on Amazon has accepted the request return and it's being collected (yep I didn't even know that was possible) by (I'm guessing) a courier the company regularly uses, on Thursday. 5.99 will be deducted from my relatives refund but she's fine with that.

No bad blood between us and she quickly reverted from her mood once I reiterated that although I loved her choice it just wasn't newborn compatable.

I've chosen an alternative that I want and will be ordering that on Saturday. Its the Joie twin air. It's nothing glamarous but much more fit for purpose, lightweight and looks a damn sight nicer than the limousine I have here Grin

Glad to read that you’ve managed to get things resolved! A buggy is a personal choice and whilst it’s lovely that someone wanted to help you by buying one for you it really does need to be one that works for you so if you can I’d suggest going and trying a few out. FWIW the double I had, for an 18 month age gap, was an Oyster Max (which is inline not side by side) and I used it on public transport all the time (I didn’t drive then) and it had the same “footprint” as a single buggy. It also takes a buggy board when your older child is bigger and is one of few that I found that I could use with a buggy board and still walk normally without doing weird steps. Good luck!

foxtiger · 22/04/2019 21:48

Either that or get a normal stroller and use a buggy board

The older child is "a young toddler" - I assume that means about 1½ - so probably still falls asleep in the pushchair sometimes and they're not going to be able to do that on a buggy board. In fact the front seat of this pushchair doesn't really look comfortable for falling asleep in either, unless it can be reclined a lot more than it looks in the picture.

My two are 19 months apart and we used a front-and-back pushchair for about 5 minutes (fortunately second-hand and not very expensive) before realising it was totally unsuitable for DC1 - he could only sit upright and the back support wasn't very high. We ended up using a double Maclaren buggy most of the time and occasionally a single buggy and a baby backpack once DC2 was old enough for that.

OP, I bet you will be able to sell it a lot faster than you think. I wouldn't hesitate to do so since the person who gave it to has said you can. Even if they were being huffy, if they ever complain about the fact that you sold it you'd be well within your rights to say "but you told me to."
