Ned Flanders

What’s peoples opinions on Ned Flanders? Good neighbour? Pain the arse? Is he a wanker that thinks he’s better than everyone else or a nice bloke trying to be a good citizen? AIBU to think anyone who hates Ned and people like him are simply jealous?

Ned's also 60 and considering they have an 11 year old and a 9 year old, and Maud appears to be Marge's age...

If we're assuming that the Jesus affects Maud as much as it does Ned, and 50 is about menopause age, she could at a stretch be the same age as him (maybe that's why Rod and Todd are so precious and sheltered?). She certainly always seemed more irritated by Ned's religious nature, like him calling the Reverend at 3am over minor issues, so I wouldn't suppose she is also late 50s.

Or if she is Marge's age (mid-thirties), she could be significantly younger. SIGNIFICANTLY.

Great thread. I love Flanders. The Leftorium is one of my favourite Simpsons episodes ever.

Also I can't remember which episode, but there's a scene where Bart sees Ned putting Todd and Rod to bed, and he tucks them in, makes them a hot chocolate and blow torches a marshmallow on the top (which Bart then compares to Homer's parenting, obviously)

CalmdownPacino, your name reminds me of one of my favourite lines on the Simpsons, between Wiggum and Lou discussing, I think, Mother Simpson not being able to get out of some sort of car crash, I may be totally wrong here! Lou mentions her being rescued by a hot air balloon and Wiggun replies, "Pipe down, Jules Verne!" Love it!

This is one of DD1s favourite bits. He has autism, so fixated on certain things and always requests us to go through the full Simpsons repertoire when we are out in public.

I love the Flanders to God rhyme! And I'm not averse to Neds six pack either... or the fact he's secretly Satan.

Responding to pp- yes, Todd is the more outgoing Flanders child. Ned lists Rods hobbies as clapping during songs, being quiet during trips and diabetes.

I love the episode where Lisa and Bart stay at their house overnight and Ned tucks them in bed at 6.30pm, pulling down the blinds as the sun streams into the bedroom and the whole neighbourhood plays loudly outside. I have the same approach to bedtime-- night night kids!

The barbecue episode is great too.

I love that episode! Poor Ned, pleased he found love again with Edna! (Unless I am not up to date on something else happening there. I don't usually watch the eps from the last few years as they tend to be garbage, in my experience).
