Unless you're legally blind - Very

AIBU to feel disgusted that a business would use a disability in a marketing campaign this way. It was a subject line on an email sent out to customers.

DS was born with no eyes so no doubt this will bother me more than most. I hope the press pick this up.

I’m amazed no one at Very spotted the problem with this. It also promotes the misconception that if you’re blind, you can’t see anything at all.

S1naidSucks · 18/04/2019 19:11

This the second thread on this, OP so you’re not the only one that’s, rightfully, pissed off.

MaverickSnoopy · 18/04/2019 19:11

Awful awful. I know of a fairly large company whose advert went out on TV before so many people complained it was pulled. They really should have thought it through as it was quite offence to some people. You can't stop stupid as they say. I would complain, not to Very, but maybe the advertising standards people. But that's me.

a) What idiot came up with it?
b) What idiot passed it?

Rainbow1781 · 18/04/2019 19:15

Oh sorry I did search but couldn't find one, but the search function on the app is rubbish. Does someone have a link please?

OP posts:
pinkpushchairs · 18/04/2019 19:15

That's terrible

Lowena · 18/04/2019 19:18

That's terrible.

I guess it has done its job and got people talking though about the campaign hey? Hmm

PotatoesDieInHotCars · 18/04/2019 19:19

Maybe they thought if they went with "put your eyes on this" people would complain that it was discriminating...?

I have no idea.

Confused
Rainbow1781 · 18/04/2019 19:20

Lowena it does cross my mind when companies do stuff like this if it's intentional for a reaction even if it's negative. Is negative press better than no press?

OP posts:
Rainbow1781 · 18/04/2019 19:21

Stuff like 'put your eyes on this' is everywhere though. I notice it all the time because every time I see it my heart stings a bit Sad

Nanny0gg
Precisely.
Words fail.
Apart from WTAF, speechless. Speechless!

leahlemur · 18/04/2019 19:23

I don't understand how that's possible. They've been sending out other emails with the same picture but different tag line. So the tag line is being picked up from somewhere that's been manually entered.

rosamacrose · 18/04/2019 19:28

Rainbow1781
I am so sorry that you have had to see this.
Thanks for bringing it out and although I wouldn't normally get revved up, am going to their website, now, to complain.

PorterBella · 18/04/2019 19:28

A really pathetic response.
A 'tool' did it. Sounds about right.

leahlemur · 18/04/2019 19:29

I don't understand how it's possible either. I think it's worse that rather than owning up to the insensitive message they're trying to blame technology?! Ridiculous

BendydickCuminsnatch · 18/04/2019 19:31

OMG I am genuinely shocked by that! And their response - passing the blame and taking no responsibility. Ridiculous. Awful!

rosamacrose · 18/04/2019 19:32

Oh.
Just seen the tweet.
It's a Bot.
Well, very, stop using Bots until you can manage them.
You bunch of shits.

Rainbow1781 · 18/04/2019 19:32

This is an example of another email they sent with a different tag line. And I've seen another different one too. So whilst I expect the emails are computer generated, someone has had to input that tag line somewhere. Why would a computer generate 'unless you're legally blind'

Yes their apology is awful as I just don't believe it to be true.

rosa how does a bot work? Are they saying that computer randomly generates tag lines and no one checks them?
